a mom who quit her job to be home with the kids... that's how it started, although now it's evolved to being just a mom like everyone else

There goes the non-relatable argument. I mean, if she's just a mom like everyone else. ;)

Despite the current season's depressing undertone and concerns that the children are being exploited, TLC says it has no plans to end Jon & Kate Plus 8. (Monday's fifth season premiere attracted 9.8 million viewers - more than double the audience for its fourth-season finale several weeks ago.)

"The show's ratings have grown consistently, as there has been interest in these real-life issues of this real-life family," TLC said in a statement to E! News on Wednesday. "We will continue to air as the interest continues, and the family wants to do it."

Boy, Even the Osbornes new when it was time to call it a day on reality tv, (shakes head).

Don't they have a variety show now? So, if the Gosselins do a variety show, it would be peachy, yes?

LOL and they thought politics threads got heated:scared1::scared1::scared1:
There have been very few people who have been insistent that there is only one ending to this..and they have been far and few between. I think most of us have made it clear it's our opinions, and have even agreed with parts of each other's posts. Very civil for the most part. That's how you change people's minds. By being civil (or if you don't change minds, you do stay 'friends' LOL!!

I think her next book is supposed to be a recipe book. Of course, according to Kevin and Jodi, she doesn't really cook or bake, so that one will be interesting LOL
OK, something keeps nagging at me, so I'm going to post it.

How can Kate write an "overcoming obstacles in relationships" book if they don't. How can they have a happy ending without a conflict to resolve?!

It is supposed to be, but Kate has said she doesn't really follow a recipe when cooking.

I just rewatched the episode, I had DVR'ed it as we were at our apt. pool and having a cookout, as a single mother of 3 with very very little child support I try to do cheap or free things all the time. Monday morning we went to the park had a picnic lunch then off to our apt pool. A great family day, but very cheap! Sorry, ot but I saw the upcomming episode, I saw Kate and Mady (?) in California at a spa because she was needing to get away from things going on at home.

Ugh, that made me sick. I know I am jealous. If I could just pick up and get away with one or more of my DD, I would. I am going through a divorce myself and I too am under stress, but us "normal" people can't do that. We have to stay here working our "real" jobs, and caring for our own children 24/7. I know I will probably get flamed, but that is ok, I can take it.

and yet, in one of the episodes, they show her using a recipe to make pancakes...

speaking of food, I did notice they were using organic ketchup at their little cookout. maybe Kate has finally gotten the hint that she doesn't need to insert the word organic before everything they eat or drink.

Is it a big deal if she does??

I noticed she wasn't saying "organic" all the time in the last episode. I guess they have bigger things to worry about now.

Well the "family" (parents or parent) obviously want to do it - so it's up to the viewers.. Either you're interested in watching the train wreck or you're not.. If you are - continue to support it - if not, pull your support - in every way that you can..

Are we to believe the things that Kevin and Jodi say now - or only the parts that support which side of this scenario we're standing on? I'm confused by the "picking and choosing" of which parts are to be believed and which parts aren't..:confused3

I think I'll stick with what comes out of Jon's mouth or Kate's mouth.. They do a great job of throwing each other under the bus - without any help from anyone else..

Yes, and wouldn't the 2 of them TOGETHER make appearances to deny and be in shock about the whole thing if it were false?

that holds true for both of them, and a really big part of the problem, IMO. neither of them have come together for anything other than episodes of the show. Jon and Kate do not have a united front at all. and by united, I don't even mean united in marriage or anything like that. If nothing else, just a united front for the sake of the children and their family reputation. This whole thing is Jon's side, Kate's side, what TLC wants us to see, and the media/tabloid spin.

I think they've both cheated.. maybe not physically, but emotionally. neither one is any better than the other on that issue.

Is it a big deal if she does??

which, use a recipe or yammer on about everything they eat being organic?

she says she doesn't use recipes, but in at least one episode she does .. and she's coming out with a recipe book? doesn't make much sense to me at all, other than publishers have told her that a cook book would probably sell well.

the organic thing is just annoying. we discussed it at length in thread #2.

The show was so sad for me. Jon just seems angry and on a pity pot. Kate at least seemed somewhat sad that her marriage is in the toilet. To me they all but said the marriage was over. The bar-b-q at the end was so confusing, are they seperating without seperating?

The kids were adorable, they have grown so much. I about cried when Collin went up to Kate and hugged her and said "Thank you for my birthday, Mommy".

LOL I missed thread two I guess. I don't use a recipe either when I cook. I can tell how much stuff I use. I can tell others how to make it as well.

What/who you believe tends to depend on whether you like/dislike Kate - if you dislike her you believe Jodi and Kevin.

From what I've seen of the programme (we're a couple of seasons behind) Jon and Kate were very circumspect during their interviews - they spoke a lot without actually saying anything.

And the only ones doing any 'under bus throwing' were Jodi and Kevin, but again, they had a lot of accusations but no actual 'facts' to give. "The kids told us they don't like the cameras"........well you said you haven't seen the kids in a while, and they seemed to be having fun in front of the cameras and with the film team when they were filming at your house, with your children in their bedrooms. If you feel filming in childrens bedrooms is unhealthy, why allow it in your own house?

IMO they are just being hypocritical and have their own agenda.

you're not writing a cook book, though ... I can make stuff with out a recipe, but I'm terrible at telling people how to make it. LOL

And why would it make a difference how or why it was said? Hating the cameras is hating the cameras..

This was said when some of us were discussing many things. It's easy to just take out a snipped and comment on it. This was a discussion about what might have been a snippet in a child's conversation. My daughter once told me she wished she had a different mother. Did it mean anything? No. We laugh about it still 20 years later. I just recently told her at the time I wish I had a different daughter. She now has a teen..and she understands.

It does sound like a perfect life, when money is short that many things can be found to do with a large family. But as you pointed out, you had a mixed family, divorce happened. Should I assume that because it all worked out so well for you, and all of your family/step family is intact and great friends, that it wouldn't turn out that way for this group? That said, it seems to me that even with you making what you believed were perfect decisions for your family, you have posted in the past several threads about splits/arguments you have had with in laws, steps and your own children. Stuff happens. You aren't alone..other's have posted about that stuff as well. Many on the Dis have delt with 'stuff' that affects the family, don't talk with in-laws, don't talk to children, etc..but I point that out because there are few of us that got our families with an instruction book. We all do what we feel is best for our family. Kate seems to really believe she is doing the same. Is there a time when each of them wishes there were no camera's? I don't doubt that for a moment. But it is their family, and even after tons and tons of conversation, we can't agree on if she is doing something wrong or not. Having people post on here saying, they are wrong, shame on them doesn't make it wrong. It's a person's opinion, just like it's a person's opinion if they are not wrong. As much as some might think it's black and white, it's only black and white in the mind of the person who thinks they know just how this should play out. And they might be proven to be right, or they might be proven to be wrong.

We all bring up our families differently. There are things I didn't allow my children to do, that my neighbor did. Some things that I really thought were harmful. But that was just my opinion. There are as many opinions as belly buttons..and we all have one. Why can't we just look at ourselves, and see how differently we all feel on this thread, and accept that it may not be all one way or the other. I've flip flopped so many times on these four threads, but one thing I really feel, is that they love their kids, and they feel they are doing what is right for them. They may be wrong, but then some of us may have been wrong in how we raised our families as well.

Just one more time...we see what TLC wants us to see and unless we are privvy to more info (sort of like when Madge went to see her, and we all couldn't wait for the report :yay:) that is direct, that is all we will see.

Just my 2 cents.

I just watched Monday's show. A few things caught my attention unrelated to the Jon/Kate drama.

Did anyone else notice that when the kids were eating lunch, they had single serve peanut butter cups? I've noticed this in the past as well. Single serve of anything is expensive!

Maybe it's because I happened to catch the a short clip of the episode where Jon failed to use a coupon and Kate went on and on about saving money.

I also noticed that they were using Styrofoam cups at the BBQ. What happened to the Going Green Show with Sarah Snow?

As the kids were eating the candy, I had a flashback to the show where Kate talked about the kids only getting organic suckers.

At the party, there were a ton of 2-liter bottles on the table but yet it looked like everyone was drinking juice boxes instead. The labels were all lined up making me think that Coke donated them for advertising.

My daughter and I lost count on how many times Kate had to bring up the fact that she has to do everything alone without any help but yet there were people setting up the party and who was watching the children while she was there trying to get things set while wearing a dress. Maybe she changed into pants when she went back home because she was cold.

Lastly, she said that she doesn't allow the children to use the word paparazzi. They never would have used the word if they hadn't heard it many times before.

I used to like the show when it was real. Now that it's turned into a completely unrealistic show where it's all about promoting a product and getting it for free, it's lost it's appeal for me.
