Well, that's the way you feel. I say, Nope, it wasn't the right decision and you could see it all over Cara and Mady's faces.

And really, it didn't have to be that dramatic. Of course Kate was involved and she creates her own drama. Really, it isn't that hard to have a conversation with almost 5 year olds.

How egotistical to think you know what the right decision is for someone else's family.

Didn't seem to bother them much toward the end of the show. Doubt it's going to be something the throw in Kate's face, as someone mentioned. There are a lot more issues these kids will face as a result of their family's fame and success. Naming dogs probably won't be too high on the list.

You obviously didn't read the previous poster that I was quoting. She made it seem set in stone that her opinion was the end all fact. I was just letting her know that I had a different opinion. Please read the posts before jumping to conclusions.

Because both their parents agreed that it would be too much drama to let 8 kids pick out a name. We all make parenting decisions that someone else wouldn't agree with, does that make it wrong. Nope...it's the right decision for them.

I absolutely read it. In fact, I quoted it for you. Now, where did she set in stone that her opinion is the end all fact? I see that both parents wanted to avoid the drama. Not an opinion, a report. We all make parenting decisions...fact. Just because someone else doesn't agree with them doesn't make them wrong...I'll go with opinion here, but I'm willing to bet a pretty popular one. The Gosselins made the right decision for their family...I'll even give you opinion on her part, but probably fact on the Gosselins part. They felt it was the right decision for their family or they wouldn't have made it.

You say "...Nope, it wasn't the right decision and you could see it all over Cara and Mady's faces." That, to me, sounds like trying to pass off an opinion as fact.

I agree with you DreaGirl. Everyone is entitled to their opionion. I guess some people don't realize this is a "discussion board" and feel they have all the answers. Your also right on about who got the money--the breeder.

I do have all the answers, thanks! :goodvibes

The breeder, who knows about these dogs, needs to be held responsible for this, too, then. He could have told them not to take the dogs, not sold them the dogs or offered to bring them the dogs once they, at least, had the necessary supplies.

The breeder seemed to be knowledgeable and excited about his dogs. BUT, considering that he is a police (I'm assuming K-9) officer and knows the power of these animals, I couldn't help but wonder why he wasn't helping them pick the puppies with the best temperament for homes with small children. The breeder I got Walter (my Golden) from is very thorough about temperament testing and about has it down to a science. Even at seven weeks, she can tell which pup is the most dominant, which is the best suited for obedience competition, etc. J&K seemed to pick whichever puppy they happened to grab first. If they end up with the most dominant male and female of the litter, they could be in for trouble.

Ya know...I think a lot of people offer services, trips, etc. for their 15 minutes. He'll now be the (in?)famous breeder who sold JK8 their pups. The Grand Wailea got tons of coverage in exchage for their free trip (I was sucked in, and we're considering a trip there next January). Tummy tuck doc and wife got their time. Maybe he needed some extra publicity. Who knows?

3 pages of discussion in such a short amount of time ... and I had nothing to do with any of it! wow! :upsidedow

My son was able to buy a stuffed Penguin at a fair at school last year with "Good Behavior" credit. He named it Pecker. That was when I decided that children naming anything be it rear or fake animals was not a good idea. Mommy changed Pecker's name to Tux which is short for Tuxedo. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

:lmao:

Well we are very boring at my house....DH had a dog while growing up....he was allowed to name his dog and he choose "Puppy Dog". :dog:

We had a dog named Pucket when we were little, my brother couldn't say puppy. :)

You obviously did not get my point. My point was that the parents made the decision that they felt was the best for THEIR family. You may not personally believe that is the right decision or the decision you would have made, but it's not your family and not your decision to make, or really judge.

I let my oldest sleep with a bottle way longer than she should have...why?? Because as a working mom it got me sleep on the weekends.....I'm sure alot of people would have a major problem in that parenting decision that I made, but for me and my family it was the right one to make.

You may believe it was the wrong decision, but once again....doesn't matter what you think, the decision was J&K's and they made the one that they believed to be right for THEIR OWN PERSONAL FAMILY.

I can just imagine all the hoopla if she let the kids pick names, because no way would they all agree and I'm sure Kate would have been called evil because she picked Hannah's name instead of Joel's. Nevermind that Hannah wanted to call the puppy Scout and Joel wanted to name him Poopybutt. (I totally made that up btw) I can hear it now, "poor Joel, what's wrong with the name Poopybutt?? Kate is so mean to the boys". :lmao:

Yes, I agree, I'm sure that is pretty darn close to exactly what would happen. I don't get why the picking of the names is such a big deal either and honestly if I had 8 kids and only 2 dogs, there's a pretty darn good chance I would have done the same thing. Whatever works for their family.

:lmao:

our 12 year old cat's name is "meow" cuz ds named her when he was 2:) not a major issue except when she slipped out of the motel room when we were moving out of state (and dh was wandering in the parking lot at 4 a.m. saying "meow, meow, meow"-we were sure that someone was going to call the local psych ward to come pick him up:rotfl2: ).

i sure hate to think what might happen to those puppies if they ever got a piece of chewed gum stuck in their fur:scared1:

I look at it that the breeders are still going to breed their dogs and if they aren't bought they end up in the shelters anyways (or here in PA the puppy mills just kill the unwanted dogs) ....I just never saw the difference between breeder vs. shelter dogs. They ALL still need a home!

A GOOD RESPONSIBLE breeder will NOT put any unsold puppies in a shelter. A good breeder will keep those puppies and continue to look for the right home. If they never get sold, then the pups would end up living with the breeder forever.

As far as naming the pups. I think it was the way Kate handled it was bad. The Duggers let all their children have a vote with naming #18, but the way they went about it was much different. If I remember correctly, Jim Bob and Michelle even said as Mom and Dad they get the final say in the name. They had a fun time voting on the names, whereas Kate was you are getting two puppies, they are your Christmas present, your getting not much else and their names are....
It's all in the way you present things....

I'm glad to know that people that agree with Gosselins and you are right and everyone else is egotistical and wrong. I'll keep that in mind when replying to this discussion thread in the future. I was stating my opinion in a sarcastic way just as the previous poster had stated her opinion as fact.

Yes, because naming a human child is no different than naming a dog. Give me a break. I would never involve my children in naming another child other than to say "This is the name we picked out for your new baby brother/sister." Let's compare apples to apples here, kay?

I agree. They made it fun and the kids really got excited. Did you notice that they all chose the name that Michelle wanted? I'm guessing that she did a little sweet talk leading up to the vote. ;)

So I just watched last night's episode.

I was a little bothered by the very end of the show when one of the twins said "I am going to count to three and everyone thank Mommy and Daddy for the puppies"!! Kate then says "Your father is not here" (why did she need to say that)....."One-two-three, thank you Mommy and Daddy for the puppies!" Kate then says "You're not welcome!" I thought how childish of her to say that...even if she thought it, she should just keep quiet. :headache:

I agree that was childish. That really was not very nice of her to say. :sad2: And I know someone will say, oh, we've all said things we shouldn't. Sure we have, but Kate knows she is being filmed and these shows are memorializing her family's important moments, so you think she would be more aware. It's important what we say to our kids.

You really wouldn't involve your kids in naming another child? I guess thats what is different. My kids were involved in picking out the name of their sister. In fact we went with the name they picked over the one I had picked out. As for picking the name of a pet, we didn't pick our pets name, he came to us already named, but if he hadn't I would have let the kids have a say in what we picked.

Well, my child is 2, so I fear that her brother would be named Sara right now since she has 3 babies all named Sara. :rotfl: If she were older, I probably would have said something along the lines of here are the names we are considering what do you think, but nothing more.

I guess it was the NEVER in your sentence that got me. My kids were 13 and 5 when their sister was born, so I really did value what they thought and went with what they picked.
