You're right...nothing Kate does is good enough for some people.

It seems like random strangers on the internet are WAY more obsessed over the dogs names than the kids were.

It's such a petty thing.....I really am having a hard time grasping all the drama over this...

I totally agree...had they picked a few names to vote on or let the kids try to pick the names, invariably there would be someone whose name didn't get picked or who lost the vote. Way too much room for dissapointed kids that way and there's no way 8 kids could have all come up with a name they all wanted. I think they handled it the right way and in the end it didn't really seem to be a problem.

It would have been a nice gesture to say, "Here is a list of names that would be good for the puppies. What do you think?" Then the kids could have voiced their opinions and the adults could have led the children to pick the names that the adults wanted. Easy as pie. I've done it many times with students and in the end, they thought it was their decision. :)

And really, if you listen closely when Mady was having her breakdown at the beginning Jon says something along the lines of "it doesn't matter anyway because these are my dogs". So, which is it. Jon's dogs or the kids Christmas gifts.

Also Kate said that they better enjoy these because this is it for Christmas, when Jon did an interview around Christmas time stating that the kids were getting "windows based PCs" for Christmas and nothing else...so which is it? ;)

I grew up with Labs and to this day I get nervous around big dogs. I just never got comfortable around them. I feel sorry for Aidan because I know how it feels to be small around a big dog.

Anyone watching tonight? I can't believe Kate picked the dog's names! At least let the kids choose a few names, then pick some out of that group!

Actually, I think they should have brought the twins and let them pick the dogs and the names. The little kids would prob. be happy with whatever dogs came home, plus having some presents under the tree! :rotfl:

"He stepped in his poop, he smells gross, he's going back..I'm not kidding!" The kids don't know she's joking! How horrible! :scared1:  :sad2:
Only thing I did not like about her allwoing the kids to have A VOICE in helping come up with names for the dogs is, they are going to throw that back in her face froever, and they have video to prove it.:rotfl:

They got the 'shorter haired' puppies because they would shed less?!?! From someone who has owned German Shepherds for over 15 years, I would like to say one thing to Kate... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! :rotfl: :happytv: :rotfl2: :lmao:

My white Shepherd has considerably shorter hair than my silver one did, but my house still looks like it has snowed indoors during shedding season.

I knew you were laughing at that one! :lmao:

I guess you dont DESERVE that house.
I usually keep quite about Jon and Kate, but she she ahs mentioned on two of the new house episodes about how the kids "deserve" that house.
That really irks me. Why do they deserve it?
We had 7 kids in our family in a small 3 bedroom house. Why didnt we deserve a big house with tons of land??
I wish she would just say "we are so lucky" or "we are so fortunate" to have this house.
I think the kids deserve privacy, and I am hoping really that is what they moved for. I am the youngest of seven! It was so nice when everyone moved out, but then my sister and three kids and two cats came back home, so I moved out.

The breeder works as a cop or something along those lines and was security at one of their speaking engagements. He was talking their ear off about how great Sheps are and stuff. So when they decided to get dogs they gave him a call.

Jon mentioned that they wanted purebred puppies where they new the lineage and temperment of the parents because of the 8 kids. It also seemed like they would get a lot of support from this breeder. Honestly, I don't blame them for going through a breeder like this.

I know there are a lot of wonderful shelter dogs out there but I just wouldn't want to chance it with their family. My inlaws always get shelter "mutts" and have had some really wonderful dogs, but the two they have now seemed great on paper but they have become overly protective of MIL and I will not let my DS around them without myself or DH anymore. You just never know! Also, my experience with rescues has been that they can be pretty selective with their placement....I don't think many rescues would place a dog with the Gosselins! Their household is just too CRAZY!

I look at it that the breeders are still going to breed their dogs and if they aren't bought they end up in the shelters anyways (or here in PA the puppy mills just kill the unwanted dogs) ....I just never saw the difference between breeder vs. shelter dogs. They ALL still need a home!

I agree, I would have felt much better with them writing out a check to a shelter. Did you hear the breeder say to Kate, No you mean what you talked me into? It was in regards to her saying what did you talk me into? I bet he did not want to give them two dogs. My neighbor has to German Shepard’s, full breed and they look like horse compared to my yellow lab and my Rottweiler. They poop like them too!

I guess I should get my girls some therapy because I haven't let them name any of our pets....:rolleyes1

Seriously people, that is such a minor issue.....

So I just watched last night's episode.

I was a little bothered by the very end of the show when one of the twins said "I am going to count to three and everyone thank Mommy and Daddy for the puppies"!! Kate then says "Your father is not here" (why did she need to say that)....."One-two-three, thank you Mommy and Daddy for the puppies!" Kate then says "You're not welcome!" I thought how childish of her to say that...even if she thought it, she should just keep quiet. :headache:

Maybe some day, (10 years) when she sits down and rewatches the show,
she will see~~
The guilt will overwhelm her.

I don't think it's therapy worthy...:rotfl: Now other things...oh I won't get into it again. ;)

If it is such a minor issue then why not just let the kids do it? It's just a name right?

I didn't think it seemed petty to Mady and Cara. They were what I would classify as distraught. Did it last forever? Probably not; but they were upset enough over not liking the names (not just the fact they were already named) that it overshadowed the happy announcement. Will they like the dogs a little less, take a little less ownership in them because they weren't consulted at all about the breed or names? Who knows, but mine probably would. I can't stand surprise pets, pets as gifts, pets at the holidays. It bugs me. Their names also bug me, Nala is a lion, and Shoka is as Samoyan(sp?) name. How 'bout some nice German names! We name all of our animals people names like Roger, Sallie, Wanda, Emmy, Luke, etc...people often laugh, but we like it!
I don't feel like a random stanger; I feel like family! :goodvibes
You're right, this will be minor in the whole scheme of things if in fact they have given the dogs away!

The money was going to charity not the breeder.

The money was going to buy the dog. The breeder was giving to charity, not J&K. They were paying for their dog and the owner was giving up HIS earnning to give to charity.

I agree! I think you have to be around the god to name it also first. We adopted a black lab puppy when my son was four. When we brought the puppy home, I told my DS him he could name it but nothing silly. So we wrote down names he came up with. It was late, and I told him well you need to get to bed, and we will thin about it tomorrow. He said it is not late! I said how do you know what is late he said MIDNIGHT is late Mommy. I said Midnight and the dog came running to us. My DS said he wants to be called MIDNIGHT. The rest is history.

See, that is what I'm talking about. You sat down and had a conversation with you DS about the dog. You also have a funny story to share about it, which will last a lot longer than the dog. :)

Because both their parents agreed that it would be too much drama to let 8 kids pick out a name. We all make parenting decisions that someone else wouldn't agree with, does that make it wrong. Nope...it's the right decision for them.

Well, that's the way you feel. I say, Nope, it wasn't the right decision and you could see it all over Cara and Mady's faces.

And really, it didn't have to be that dramatic. Of course Kate was involved and she creates her own drama. Really, it isn't that hard to have a conversation with almost 5 year olds.

Did not seem like a minor issue to me when I watched it. Seem like it was a big issue.

The money was going to buy the dog. The breeder was giving to charity, not J&K. They were paying for their dog and the owner was giving up HIS earnning to give to charity.

Yes, I am sure the breeder figure he better do something good with the money, because if not someone would be up there with signs protesting.
I dont like dogs outside, and I have a feeling Jon and Kate if they KEEP them, will pen them up outside. I hope they know German Shepards are big barkers.

Now that's just really being petty. I am pro shelter dogs all the way, I am militant about spay/neuter, and I really think it's crazy that J&K got dogs in the first place, but omg people are just going nuts over non issues.

I wish them well with their dogs and hope they are getting some good advice on training.

No it is not to hard but for Kate it is becasue she is naraccistic!

Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion

Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions)

Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation - or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (narcissistic supply)

Feels entitled. Expects unreasonable or special and favorable priority treatment. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her expectations

Is "interpersonally exploitative", i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends

Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with or acknowledge the feelings and needs of others

Constantly envious of others or believes that they feel the same about him or her

Arrogant, haughty behaviours or attitudes coupled with rage when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted

No I was just clarifying. J&K did not give their money to charity. They gave their money to the breeder, right? It just so happened that he was donating to charity. They didn't know about it beforehand, Kate said so herself. So it wasn't like they chose these dogs because they knew it was going to charity. I'm just stating facts.

Talk about a "textbook case"... :scared1:!!!
