I'm sure they got paid for the swimming lessons, what else should they have gotten? :confused3

Would it possible to have a Jon and Kate Thread for haters and one at least likers I get tired of reading all the hate.

then I'd have nowhere to post ... :upsidedow

I neither like nor hate JK8. I am strangely fascinated by them, more than anything else.... which is why I requested a ticket to see Kate in 2 weeks. :faint:

Do you get to ask her a question?
Or do you just have to listen.

I would ask her if she is taking her family back to WDW?
We are all WDW nuts, so that would be my question.

I don't think there's a Q&A time - she's speaking at a local church as part of a sermon series. http://www.firstchristianonline.com/thecore/family.html

From what I've heard, the church booked Kate before the PR firm took over managing their appearances, so they didn't pay big $$$ for her to come. I am probably more interested in how they phrase the request for the love offering than anything else.

Copycat!! I was thinking the exact same thing.

If she was a fan of the show, the picture is actually a bonus.

I guess I was thinking if I were a "big name celebrity" (which is what *I* think J&K see themselves as) I would like to think I'd give them more than just their regualr "rate" and oh here's a picture of us as your "tip"...maybe a nice monatary tip or something? (not saying she wasn't paid something else - we don't know that - I'm just presuming that they paid what everyone else would pay) I think it's just cheesy to give someone a picture of you (assuming it was signed) as a "thank you for teaching my 8 kids how to swim" gift. Maybe it's just me (and that's ok) but I think a picture's just not enough....that's like at Christmas time giving my nanny a picture of my kids that they signed and saying "Happy Holidays! thanks for watching my kids for another year!" :rotfl: (I know it's not exactly the same but the only thing I could ralate to J&K with on that level I think)

I also had to laugh about the "popcorn" button on the microwave...I guess I thought everyone had one of those little buttons...

I think pretty much everyone has a "popcorn" button on their microwave, but I got the impression that Jon was saying the microwave could "sense" the explosions while it pops and tell when the popping has slowed to a point that it will burn. I have a button on my microwave that says it is for popcorn but there are many times that it is not correct. Actually so often that I really don't even use it anymore.

But like you already pointed out, we don't know that they didn't give her a tip on top of the rate. Perhaps she had mentioned that she watched the show during the lessons, and someone on the JK8 team remembered that, and thought it would be a nice gesture as a memory of the day spent together.

Furthermore, it isn't irregular for places of business to put up signed pictures/items that previous famous clients have given to them as a sign of "Look who else has been here! We must be good! Use our services, they sure did!" If your kids were to sign a card for their nanny at the holidays, some people may see that as nice, and not as a required part of their service provisions. You're not required to give your nanny a holiday bonus, but if you do then good for you. However, that doesn't mean that someone won't say that amount just isn't enough, either.

Are they still collecting money from churches for themselves? Why, and why would people donate money to someone in a million dollar house?

I saw the show again and that seems to be what he was talking about, that the new microwave has the sensor popcorn mode and it has cut down on the amount of burned popcorn.

I know my microwave at home has a popcorn button but I have to chose the bag size and still have to watch it. The one at work has the sensor on it and I can walk away and not worry about it.

I must be big time 'cause my popcorn button (or the microwave it's attached to) has never burned a bag.

Let me tell you, we are soooooooooo glad we got the new microwave here at work! :scared: It was the kind where you had to chose the size and it would burn popcorn all the time!

We stayed in a suite last week (Vday weekend), and thanks to the stupid microwave (with a popcorn button, I might add) every room in the place smelled like burnt popcorn for a couple of days! popcorn:: (or not so much...)

Wow, talk about OT! :rotfl:

I don't know. THAT'S what I'm curious about.

It isn't unusual for a church to collect a love offering for a speaker. I've seen it happen many times.

What I'm wondering is ...
will the love offering be collected for Kate? And what is the reason given if it is for her? She's being paid to be there. It's my understanding that she was booked at a "reasonable" price. I assume (and think I've read on various sites) that her travel expenses will be paid as well.

or will the love offering be collected to help the church cover the costs of having Kate there?

either scenario is possible. and it is possible that there will be no love offering collected at all. But I think I've read fairly recently that love offerings were still part of their lives. LOL. I won't be surprised either way.

I'm the pre-k director for a Methodist church in another suburb. They pay me (and very well, I might add) for my work on Sundays, as well as a planning period during the week and any time I spend in my classroom (decorating, cleaning, etc.) during the week.

I received a very generous love offering during the holidays. It is what it says it is. An offering of love. Not an offer to the needy. Not an "only if you don't make lots of money" offering. They appreciate my contribution to the church.

I imagine it is the same for JK8 and other speakers. It isn't required, but those who give are just showing appreciation. Now, if JK8 request the offering, that's a different story. I didn't request mine (nor did I know it was coming, but I was very appreciative of the congregation!!).

that's very thoughtful of them :) I've given $$ under those circumstances, too. I forgot about that. Shame on me.

I don't have to tell you that one of the major points of JK8 contention has been the collection of love offerings, and there has been speculation about what the love offering has been specifically for. So many of the complaints were coming back when they were poor and mentioned paying for college, I'm pretty sure I've read that Jon & Kate don't mention the college funds any more. If Kate's not crying poor and they still collect a love offering, in appreciation for Kate? Then that's the church's choice and I respect that. I do. And just because the collect an offering in appreciation doesn't mean she won't turn around and gift it back to the church. I've heard of people (people in general, not any one in particular) doing that.

I'm really curious about the whole thing. I don't think that my opinion of Kate will be any different, but I want to see how the whole thing plays out. I assume, at the very least, there will be books for sale ... but, the schedule looks to be tight. I'm not sure there will be time for pics and such after the first service. I'm going at 9:00am, and the second service is at 10:30am. They'll have to clear the church, overflow tent, and the parking lot between services - and then go through the process of seating the second crowd. I wonder if there's a lunch or event for the MOPS moms after the second service. I can't believe I don't know anyone connected with the MOPS group at this church. This is a small town, I should know SOMEONE! I'd love to hear some back scoop, LOL!

Don't you think that these "church speaking engagements were booked 2 year out?". A lot of churches were probably put on the waiting list that far out and now they finally are getting them to speak at their churches. I can see a "church" paying for them to come and speak. Heck, our Catholic Church gets speakers in at least every 3 months and we pay them a lot of money. I am hoping this is the case and they are not their to ask for offerings.

What is Kate going to talk about? Her parenting skills?

I first heard of Kate's local speaking engagement about 6 months ago, mid August of last year. I'm not sure exactly when it was booked.

Kate is speaking about how Jesus is at the core (the theme of the series is The Core) of great families.

Anyone watching tonight? I can't believe Kate picked the dog's names! At least let the kids choose a few names, then pick some out of that group!

Actually, I think they should have brought the twins and let them pick the dogs and the names. The little kids would prob. be happy with whatever dogs came home, plus having some presents under the tree! :rotfl:

"He stepped in his poop, he smells gross, he's going back..I'm not kidding!" The kids don't know she's joking! How horrible! :scared1:  :sad2:
