Jolie blasts Thanksgiving

Im sure everybody wants to cancel their holiday now that she has spoken I think Im cancelling any future visits to any of her movies. Now Im not saying that she or anybody else has to celebrate anything. But she didnt have to be such a B about it. Just my opinion, but she can go back to France!

She should have shared her views with Brad! I thought it was funny that the article quoted Brad as saying, "We'll whip a turkey somewhere!"

He will be paying for that comment (if the article is accurate in what she is saying)

She's certainly not the only person who feels that way about the Pilgrim/Indian story, but she needs to get a grip. Many people enjoy celebrating a family day and being thankful for all their blessings without going into the history of Native American relations in this country.

My friends who are Native American are going to be celebrating their blessings tomorrow just like the rest of us.

This is just like the "We won't get married until all gay people can" argument IMO. Sure, you can make a statement any way you want, but the world generally is not revolving around your celebrity opinion. I would think there would be better ways to put your opinion into action. Jolie/Pitt are both generally pretty good about finding productive ways to get involved in causes,so I don't get why the need to grandstand.

I'm a Cherokee Indian and celebrate Thanksgiving.

I appreciate what she is saying but I don't think that conquering and killing my native people is what we are celebrating anymore...

Edit: I should also add that my entire family celebrates Thanksgiving, even my grandma who lived on a reserve for a while celebrates. We are British and Cherokee.

I am of native American ancestry, but I can celebrate the "get the family together and eat good stuff"!!!! A long time has passed...I think we can move on!

Consider what their lives would have been like if she hadn't adopted them. They will certainly be no worse for having lived the privileged lives that they are now.

Considering it's not a public statement that she herself is making, it's not really any of my business how she feels about Thanksgiving and how it is viewed in their families. I would probably feel different if she was out doing some public campaign to promote this opinion, but she didn't. It's a statement from an unnamed source who is "supposedly" close to her.

I agree with Bella Ella. She may privately feel this way, but she's not out being obnoxious about it. Also, I think she's entitled to have feelings about things and to express them to her friends and, even, her fans. No one has to listen to her or be moved by her views.

I kind of feel the same way so I'll take a stab at it. It wouldn't be very much fun to live in a home where so much stuff seemed to be about a political correct statement. I'd hate to say "Oh, we can't celebrate xx because ...." or
" we can't do that because ..." and have it be a lot of political stuff that kids don't really have control over. I'd probably rather just be doing what most of the other kid's at school were doing. It's no different than feeling bad for the kids who have religious or cultural restrictions that keep them from participating in stuff that seems normal to us.

I don't think it means she thinks the mother is bad, just that she feels sorry if the kids don't get the fun tradition of Thanksgiving.

When they come from these types of venues(the gossip monger sites) you can usually disbelieve it.

Plus she's gone on record in other magazines over the last few yrs about how they DO celebrate thanksgiving.

They are SOOO tightly guarded as to what gets out and what doesn't that pretty much ANYTHING that is negative has ZERO merit.

I wouldn't even get annoyed by this. She didn't say it. The sad fact is that these gossip sites just need to have something to say about her since she hasn't done anything but direct her movie these days. They're grasping at straws.

She's entitled to her opinion on the subject. It's probably best that she resides in France during this time. Our history is rich in good and evil, but our Thanksgiving today doesn't mimic that of those times harsh times.

I think she's more than a few cents short of a dollar, and I seriously don't think she's all that good looking, BUT...if she doesn't want to celebrate Thanksgiving, that's her choice. It's not like I'm going to be checking with her to see if I should celebrate tomorrow. Nope. My family is coming. There will be 4 generations here. We are going to take the time to come together and give thanks that we are blessed to be a loving, kind, and generous family.
