Jolie blasts Thanksgiving

I think she's more than a few cents short of a dollar, and I seriously don't think she's all that good looking, BUT...if she doesn't want to celebrate Thanksgiving, that's her choice. It's not like I'm going to be checking with her to see if I should celebrate tomorrow. Nope. My family is coming. There will be 4 generations here. We are going to take the time to come together and give thanks that we are blessed to be a loving, kind, and generous family.
This. :thumbsup2

Considering it's not a public statement that she herself is making, it's not really any of my business how she feels about Thanksgiving and how it is viewed in their families. I would probably feel different if she was out doing some public campaign to promote this opinion, but she didn't. It's a statement from an unnamed source who is "supposedly" close to her.

:thumbsup2

Well, she's entitled to her opinion.. Her family, her choice..:goodvibes

She's a loon....who cares what she thinks.

+1. Always has been.

She's certainly not the only person who feels that way about the Pilgrim/Indian story, but she needs to get a grip. Many people enjoy celebrating a family day and being thankful for all their blessings without going into the history of Native American relations in this country.

One of my old ex-boyfriends was the same way. He was a PK, a preacher's kid. So when he became an adult, he rebelled against anything Christian and Anglo-Saxon. He dragged me to Native American ceremonies, and hated Thanksgiving for the way the he felt that pilgrims ultimately returned the kindness given to them, by later murdering most of the Native Americans.

I was young at the time. It took me some time to realize this ex-bf really didn't care about the Native American plight so much as he was using it as a way to rebel from his minister father and thumb his nose at his upbringing. He might have been an adult, but he was far from being grown up. :p

So, some supposed friend says something and everyone jumps on the bandwagon and believes it? :lmao: Might as well of printed it in the National Enquirer, since this is just as reliable as the story that we all just read on that gossip site.

If she celebrates it fine, if she doesn't fine.

After reading her autobiography, the woman is a few fries short of a happy meal. Billy Bob Thornton is probably thanking his lucky stars.....wacky heifer.

It is so believable because a) she is a fruit loop and b) there are people out there who are always looking for something to be "offended" over.

Well, she better not being celebrating Christmas either---she can be mad at all the hotels chains of the world---heck, I mean the inn keeper did turn away the Holy Family that blessed night!!!

Welll. . .I don't really care for the holiday myself, but that's because of personal reasons.

And, really, when you think about it, the Puritans were, in general, jerks. Let's face it, they were intolerant bigots who mandated church attendance and ran all the scary religious dissenters out of town or hung 'em. This is why the Baptist church first took hold in Rhode Island and not Massachusetts, after all. (God Bless Roger Williams!)

But at least they were pretty much jerks to everyone, Baptists, Quakers and Indians. After all, the Puritan argument that the natives were warlike savages can be shown to be decidedly untrue; the settlers of Acadia faced a native people who were culturally very similar to the Indians of Massachusetts and they had good relations with them until they were run off their land by the English (and then used as slaves by the good people of Massachusetts).

In general, I can say that the Puritans did invent bayberry candles and I like those, but other than that, I don't really see much to praise in the Purtains. My mom has a Mayflower and an Ann ancestor or two or three (just like a lot of people) and the more I research that period and those folks. . .I find the individuals interesting and compelling, but the body politick at large, not so much.

So the event we're supposed to be celebrating on Thanksgiving. . .well. Really. It isn't really. . .well. Celebrate-worthy. I mean, think about it. Take Easter. Easter celebrates the most important event on the Christian calendar. That's Celebrate-worthy. Or take the 4th of July, most of us can really get behind that celebration. . .but memorializing a feast held by a bunch of bigots who tried to kill themselves off through mild incompetency (after all, while they were incompetent, they were nowhere near the scale of say, Jamestown)?

Ah. Yeah.

And with that, I think I'll just keep my mouth shut and eat my turkey.

Who knows if she even said any of this and if she did why does it matter? She has the right to do whatever she wishes.

I do hope that Brad gets his turkey though. ;)

;)

I think most of us agree with this. However, we also have the right to discuss it, even if it is only a rumor.

After reading her autobiography, the woman is a few fries short of a happy meal. Billy Bob Thornton is probably thanking his lucky stars.....wacky heifer.

It wasn't an autobiography, she would have had to have written it herself in order to be so.

It was written by the same guy who has slammed some very well respected figures(Diana, Lennon etc). Anything in that book needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Oh and Thornton???? The man who is so psychotic he attacks radio dj's who ask him the wrong questions, he'll only eat orange food, OH and he's had countless restraining orders against him from ex wives(he's been married about 7 times- his daughter is currently in jail for killing her best friend's toddler while babysitting her-yeah apple doesn't fall far from that tree).

It really surprises me that people will believe ANYTHING a tabloid or internet gossip site prints about someone. Or a book that is all about slamming someone.

Sounds like people should look at themselves a little further before calling others crazy when they don't know them.
