Joined Curves today but I do NOT like their scales!!! It weighed me 10 pounds heavier than my scale at home. I was shocked. I know I had my shoes on and other clothes but I know they do not weigh 10 pounds!!!! YUCK YUCK YUCK:( :( :(

Congrats on joining! I'm still waiting for ours to open. The Grand Opening is January 19th, and I've already got my appointment for my first visit and tour on the 19th....

Sorry about the scale, but I've yet to find any 2 scales that weigh me the same. I've been weighing myself here with clothes on, typical work out clothes, so hopefully it will be the same.

How did it go? Do you like the set up and everything? I've never even been in a curves, but am excited to join. I'm so use to Gold's Gym that I know I'm going to have a shock when I walk in!.

I think I will like it. I just hope to be there when it is not real busy. I am shy and will feel uncomfortable about letting mt "fat fly" in front of strangers.

I love Curves! You won't care what ppl think, you'll know you're there for YOU!! Besides, the women who go to my Curves come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. No one cares, no one says a word....

It's a great place. I think you'll love it! Be sure to keep us updated on your progress. :)

Congratulations on making a comittment to exercise! I'm trying to maintain a 110 lb. weight loss, and I try to exercise every day--that way I don't have to stress so much over what I eat--it seems to all balance out! Do not worry about your "fat flying" (giggle giggle--I've been there!). There are all shapes and sizes at Curves, and you will be in a positive and supportive place! Best wishes as you continue working towards your goals!:wave2:

Sheila, good for you!! Don't worry about their silly scale - what matters is how you FEEL!! ::yes::

Have fun and watch those inches disappear! :sunny:

Way to go, Shelia!! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Those "unfriendly" scales are the pits! You would be surprised how much your clothes can weigh, though. Some of my stuff weighs as much as 4 pounds more--and that's without shoes! (Leave it to a WW'er to weigh herself in every outfit!! You gotta have the lightest thing possible for weigh in! For some reason, they frown on nakedness at WW meetings. :teeth: )

I know!! Man I just about freaked though when the scales did that!!LOL I go to learn about the machines and stuff on Monday. There will be some days I will have to take my 6 yr old dd but the days my dh is off work I can swing by home and drop her off and then do the program. They told me it would be ok to bring her as long as she doesnt get in the way. I HOPE she will behave. She will take her Pixter or leap pad with her to keep her company.

Also the Curves here is supposed to open another location in my county in a few months. That will be even better!!

I have been thru the same thing with scales. Went to my DR weighed in at 144 ( this was a couple years ago...not that weight now!!), she told me I had to lose at least 9 lbs. I was bordering on obese on their scale for my height (5'2"). Then went and had my physical for work by their DR's and it was 10 lbs less. Easiest 10 lbs I ever lost!!!!

Tell me more about Curves, expensive? All skinny's? All Rich snooty people that look at the new fat girl?

That is AWESOME!! My Curves refuses to let ANY kids in, even if they are pefect angels. Stinks b/c there are days I can't get there b/c of dh's work schedule.

The cost was pretty good I think. The joining fee was $74 and the monthly fee is $29 if you sign up for a year. If you do it month by month it is $39. You can also pay for the whole year at one time which was $300 and something(forgot)

I was going to to the 3 free visit promo that Kraft has but if I did that I would not have gotten the half off the joining fee so I went ahead and joined.

When I first got there there was only 1 person working out and she was one of those small ladies with the perfect workout clothes, perfect body, perfect hair and was working out like there was a pot of gold waiting for her!!!Then......another lady walked in that was the COMPLETE opposite from the other one!!LOL!! During the sign up 2 or 3 others came in and they were really kind of all shapes.

I joined Curves about two months ago and LOVE it. By the way, I am five pounds heavier on their scale than my scale at home.

I find Curves to be a very comfortable environment. Mostly middle-aged women in t-shirts and sweatpants with some weight to lose. It is not intimidating at all. That's what I like about it. There are all shapes and sizes. Our Curves has some young women (some come with their mothers) and I see women who are clearly in their late sixties and early seventies.

This is the first time in my life that I have done any kind of exercise like this and I'm going to keep it up. I like the way I feel when I'm done and I know this has to be good for me.

I hope you like it!!

I joined my Curves almost 4 months ago, and I love it too!!

Yes, we have some "skinny Minnies" that go there also- but I've never heard a derogatory comment made by anyone toward anyone. Most of us are there to try to get healthier; and we all know that we'll do it- by Hook or crook!!!

Of course I'm lucky. After I joined, my location started new hours.... M - F from 8 - 7, and Saturday from 8:30 - 12. Which means that I can work out 6 days a week!!!

Oh, and my Curves scale weighs me at about 5 lbs heavier, too.

Congratulations on a positive decision!!!

Congrats on joining.. now don't be afraid of going!! That is why I LOVE Curves.. I have belonged to Gyms before.. but went one in a while.. and then not at all.. I was completely intimidated.. and BORED!!! At Curves.. everyone is the same... we are all different.. but we are the same.. I know it sounds weird..but.. You don't notice size or shape there.. we all have fun.. and you don't get bored... Alot of it has to do with the people who work there also... I crack them up... they come into the back room after heart rate checking.. and always ask if everyone is okay.. I always answer NO.. we could use a few cocktails back here.. or... could you give me a manicure.. or something to get us laughing... when it is serious it is not fun.. and fun is what keeps you there... Make it YOUR time.. and you will be surprised at how much you will want to go back... Don't Give up!!!! And remember.. 2nd time around you start to feel the energy come on.. and it pushes you to finish.. sometimes even to do another circuit or 2...

Good Luck!!!

Our "first thing in the morning" M-W-F group is GREAT. Some also go on T-Th, but the most fun is MWF. We chime "goodmornin'" everytime someone new comes in, laugh and joke and just generally have a good time and get to know each other. Time passes so quickly. I recently went on a Saturday morning and it was a VERY VERY long 30 minutes. No one looked at each other, talked, or smiled.

Have fun with your group, say hello, smile. The time passes so quickly and you'll look forward to going back!

I actually met one of my neighbors by going to Curves. A dear lady who I probably would never have met (she lived diagonal from me across the big road)

Exactly my point!! Now.... granted I talk to EVERYONE.. it is my business... I am a definite people person.. for some other people it may not be as easy.... but.. give it a try.. just a smile.. or look in someone's direction is a start... if you get a negative response to a smile.. then hey that person has problems!! But it really does make the workout so much more pleasurable if you can laugh your way through it!! Have fun!! And ..hey.. if you are WishWalking.. the registration is open already.. sign up!!!! :)
