Just needed to vent today :headache: ...

Quite a few interviews over the past few weeks, and only one place followed up with a "thank you for your interest, but we've decided to go with another candidate" letter. Just a stock form letter, but at least I know - one way or the other - if I am still in the running for the position.

It sure beats playing mind-games with yourself (Hmm, I met with him on Tuesday, he said he had several more interviews during the week, maybe he was busy on the following Monday or Tuesday so he didn't follow-up right away with the second round of interviews, so I'll give it to Friday before I give up hope, but if he went on vacation .... ). I'd rather just know :sad2:

Vent over - off to iron my suit jacket for tomorrow's interview ;)

DS had an all day interview for a summer internship. It's been 2 1/2 months... (which is right around how long they said it would be before he heard anything) and nada.

They did tell them they would contact all applicants either way so he is still hopeful......

Back in 1999 (the last time I was out of work), I went for an interview with 1-800-Flowers. They said they would get back to me either way - but I haven't heard from them YET.

It is still a running joke in my family - "maybe if that 1-800-Flowers job comes through ..." ;)

All kidding aside, I hope things work out for your son :goodvibes

We normally send a thank you type letter out to anyone that interviews but not for applicants. We are in the process of hiring right now and I get a few dozen applicants a day, 95% of which I swear haven't even read the ad since it clearly states that we are looking for experienced candidates only and they have no experience :headache:

I think any sort of response is great. I once got a "thanks, but no thanks" email for a job I never even applied for. I had applied for the same company but for a different job. They had scanned my resume, picked up keywords and must have sent it to the hiring manager for the other position.

I would understand that companies do not acknowledge applicant. But if someone has an in-person interview, they should hear from that manager or HR personally. It is only the right thing to do, but many companies do not do that. That's why DH likes to work with headhunters or job search companies. They will bug the manager (and have the personal relationship to do so) until they have an answer. No mystery there, LOL!

And in this day and age, it is so easy to just shoot out an email - I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a "thanks but no thanks" so I can stop wondering about it.

I'm sorry...and I know what you mean! It ranks right up there with "we've decided not to fill the position."

Hang in there....I hope the perfect job comes to you soon!

Gosh Laura, I could have written this exact post, even up to where you are ironing your suit again. I've been to the dry cleaners almost every other day and actually had to go buy another suit.

I have been in your shoes these last few weeks and it's frustrating. I had 6 interviews with one company and was told that I was "a strong candidate and they liked me very, very much"....I sent 6 thank you's and never heard another word. It's such a slap in the face.

My friend said it's like dating, you go, have a great time and then they never call you again. Try not to take it personally, and keep thinking it's one interview closer to your dream job. :goodvibes

This has happened to my mom's friend all the time. He's been on a hundred interviews, and almost half didn't even give him a response whatsoever, with a few BS stories thrown in there, like- "we'll give you a call tomorrow." They sure like to jerk people around!

Hang in there! :goodvibes
