JFK airport tips

We are leaving out of JFK from the NE Philly area on a sat morning this summer. 10am departure. Is it better to drive up on Friday night and stay at a local hotel? I wonder if any hotels have parking while we are away. Otherwise, I guess we could drive up on Sat morning and park at the airport. I guess that is expensive too.

Any ideas or tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Michelle

We always park in the long term lot even though we probably could get cheaper parking off site. It's very easy just to hop on the monorail and go to your terminal. Make sure you leave time to travel to your terminal. We like to be walking into the terminal two hours before our flight to avoid any last minute rushing. I don't know if you are flying jet blue but it is my favorite terminal. Lots of food and stuff after security

You may get a better deal if you park at the airport (or offsite airport parking) and book a hotel through PL or Hotwire.

Long term parking at the airport cost $18 per day, including tax. They sometimes have coupons on their website. Offsite parking is a little cheaper. They don't always include tax, the savings aren't substantial.

Thanks. We are flying Hawaiian but I think it's the same terminal as JetBlue. Good to know there is food/stores beforehand. Thanks for the hotel info. Trying to see if it's better to drive early in the am or just stay at a nearby hotel the night before. Funny, we park at Philly for $6-7/night. I guess I better get used to the idea that we will be paying a bit more out of JFK

We prefer to park offsite. It is a little cheaper, but we do it more for the convenience.

It is so nice to be dropped off right at the terminal instead of taking that AirTrain. We had a bad experience once. The were several planes worth of people trying to cram into the elevator. We had a tough time holding on to our kids and luggage. Never again!

We like smartpark because they have nice buses instead of a van.

Also, in the winter they will clean your car if it snows!

I did notice the last time I we were at JFK, that a company called the parking spot also had similar buses.
