Jesus loves you over MK

God condemns no one. We are the ones who accept or reject Him. If we reject His Son, we reject the Father.

I leave the decisions about other people's choices to God. Only God knows what is in anyone's heart. I have enough to worry about.

And that is leaving out the most glaring part of this whole thing. If the object of the game is to "win the most souls for Christ", then wouldn't you want to avoid pushing people away??? Good Grief, I've been a Christian since my teens and I find people shoving words in my face annoying.

I agree that the command exists to spread the Gospel, but the command doesn't say that you have to be offensive, arrogant or just plain ignorant of other's feelings while you do it!

Fitswimmer, I'd be interested to know your interpretation of the passage I quoted earlier.

Matthew 10

34"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35For I have come to turn
" 'a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her motherinlaw.

I take it to mean the message of Jesus, salvation, heaven, hell, etc. will be offensive to many, even to the point of dividing families & friendships. What do you think?

Exactly. If someone knocks on my door, is polite, and offers me a pamphlet to read at my leisure, they are going to get a better response from me than the person that sticks their shoe in my doorway and "orders" me to read or discuss something I don't particularly feel like doing at the moment. This skywriting guy, in a way, is sort of ordering me to read his sign and that's what I resent, even though he has every right to do it.

Sure God knows what's in everyone's heart, but we each decide whether to accept or reject him -- it's our choice, not God's.

Of course Christains use the Bible to prove their point. Why wouldn't we? :goodvibes

Cause when talking to people that don't believe in Jesus or the Bible being the word of God, you may as well tell me what your pet rock has to say on the matter. It really doesn't prove anything to me when Bible quotes are used. It just gives me a chance to roll my eyes.

You didn't ask me, but since I was invited before, I would say "if someone is going to be offensive about their proselytizing, be prepared for the rude consequences, and it should be taken without complaint".

according to that God is sending the messages..but he is sane..:rolleyes1

God loves you so much that He is writing love letters to you in the sky. His love for you is so big that it could not be put on a piece of paper or on a TV screen. God doesn't want you to miss his message, so He is writing it just for you on the sky that He created. His message is this: He Loves You! He wants to do great things for you, both in this life and in the next.

God uses people to spread His message. The skywriter feels that he is doing what God is telling him to do.

I really don't take single verses out and interpret them. I look at the context of the entire book. From what I recall offhand from my NT classes, it's believed that the author of the Gospel of Matthew was a Jewish person who had become a Christian and he was directing his writings to others like him. With that in mind, it's likely that this passage would have been included to explain to other converts that their road would likely be difficult and it might even separate them from loved ones. Each evangelist chose teachings of Jesus that would particularly assist their particular audience, that's why Matthew has the geneology of Jesus, because that would appeal to Jewish converts.

Now, that's the way I was taught. YMMV.

It doesn't seem to me that people visiting WDW have never heard of Jesus. Spreading the Gospel was more important to Christianity about 2000 years ago--they needed recruits! If I wanted to be a Christian, I know where to go and what to do. All non-Christians know. We've all heard the Jesus spiel in this country by now; why waste time evangelizing when you can impress more people by the way you live your lives? Why evangelize when it's only going to piss a potential recruit off? It defeats the purpose.

I think the skywriting is ridiculous. We saw it back in August and it made us all laugh. To me, religion should be personal and something that is within one's self. Having to skywrite God and Jesus over Disney World makes this man seem like a complete radical, and someone who has nothing better to do. Looking up at some random skywriting isn't going to convert or change anyone's faith. I'm Jewish and don't believe in Jesus, and seeing a big ol' Jesus written over Disney World certainly isn't going to change my beliefs. But that's just me.

And isn't there a whole 'nother thread about people being offended by others saying or writing God's name in vain? Doesn't plastering it across the sky count?

Nope.

I was quoting Bible verses because I am debating with fellow Christians, primarily Fitswimmer. I don't expect non-believers to buy into that.

I personally believe that anyone who prosletyzes does so out of fear of God and not love for Him.

And honestly, I don't think you and I will agree on Bible interpretation either, even though we're both Christian.

That's another reason why Bible verse debates usually don't get anywhere-even between Christians. If you get a literal interpreter against a historical/critical method interpreter you end up with a stalemate.

Thank you! eclectics too!

In other words, butt out.

Not at all! The reason I joined this thread was to debate Fitswimmer's comment about this man wasting his money on this venture. I'm not here to debate with non-believers (at least not on this thread).

I think we can all learn a little from the Flying Spaghetti Monster on this one. Here are two of his "I'd Really Rather You Didnt's" that apply:

1) I'd really rather you didn't act like a sanctimonious holier-than-thou *** when describing my noodly goodness. If some people don't believe in me, that's okay. Really, I'm not that vain. Besides, this isn't about them so don't change the subject.

2) I'd really rather you didn't go around telling people I talk to you. You're not that interesting. Get over yourself. And I told you to love your fellow man, can't you take a hint?
