Jesus loves you over MK

And honestly, I don't think you and I will agree on Bible interpretation either, even though we're both Christian.

That's another reason why Bible verse debates usually don't get anywhere-even between Christians. If you get a literal interpreter against a historical/critical method interpreter you end up with a stalemate.

Fair enough. I think we both made our points. :)

Thank you! eclectics too!

Not at all! The reason I joined this thread was to debate Fitswimmer's comment about this man wasting his money on this venture. I'm not here to debate with non-believers (at least not on this thread).

Thanking us is nice, but I would much rather hear your comments on the words I wrote. I'm a believer, btw.

Interesting...I hadn't thought of it that way.

I really do think of it that way. I think anyone who performs an act simply because they are told to do so, or in this case, compelled to do so because the Bible says so, is being disengenuous and only doing it out of fear of reprisal, aka, sinning.

Up until recently, it used to really irk me to no end. Now I just give a little head shake and say a silent prayer that they didn't tick off too many people in the process. Talk about paying to disservice to God, eh? As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The God I pray to is an all knowing loving God who knows what is in our hearts and when we are being genuine. He also knows when someone is full of hooey.

I think the "Jesus Loves You" banner over anywhere is great! There should be more of it in a lot more places! :thumbsup2

I personally believe that anyone who prosletyzes does so out of fear of God and not love for Him.

I wouldn't call a message written in the sky, or a bumper sticker, or a t shirt prosletying. How is that any different from someone with a prochoice bumper sticker or a Beastie Boys t shirt? Are they proslyetizing?

If you love something, you do stuff like that. You love Jennifer Lopez, you love WDW, you love Greenpeace, you want to tell people about it. Unless I am confronting you personally, I don't feel it is any worse than putting a "Hillary for President" sign on the wall. If I hound you about Greenpeace or about Jesus, I'm wrong, but expressing my love for them?

Well, I'm not gonna stop one way or the other, so :) .

The problem I have with this guy who's doing the skywriting, is kind of the same problem I have with celebrities who use award shows to broadcast their political beliefs. If you think about it, this person doing the skywriting is using a platform that many don't access to, yet it's hard to ignore it. At least when I watch tv and some celebrity goes off on a tangent, I can change the channel or turn off the tv. Not with this guy though and he's putting his beliefs all out there for everyone to see, at one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. It's not fair or right for him to do this and if it was message about Muhammad and Islam, I'm sure some of you currently supporting this guy, would be up in arms and protesting loudly.

I believe in this quote below from another poster and have always lived my life by this motto. I wish more people would do the same.

To me, religion should be personal and something that is within one's self.

I find it strange that there are so many Christians who don't care that they are turning off the very people they should be trying to reach if they are really following Jesus' lead.

If doing so makes you feel you are doing the Lord's work and brings you closer to God, then go for it. Only He knows exactly what is running through your heart while you do so. I personally don't care as long as what you do doesn't infringe upon the lives of others. It's harmless.

It's harmless.

That's all I'm saying. Look, I think anyone who's skywriting anything is a little over the top and it's not me. I just don't understand the anger. I'm arguing this more for the principle than anything.

I think Jesus should have at least respect as the Beastie Boys get! ;)

I'd say most people do it because the Bible instructs them too. Some use methods that I find border on intimidation and don't think God would approve. However if did in a respectful/honorable way I say it is 100% based on a love and wish to share the love with others.

So I can't have my Beastie Boys tshirt either? Not everyone likes them, I guess someone might be offended....

Sure you can have your Beastie Boys shirt, but let me ask you this, how would you like it if someone was writing offensive language with their plane? What if it was businesses using the skies to promote their products? Your t-shirt expresses your likes and dislikes and a few people will see it as they go by you. It is hard to get away from the sky.

It turns me off to see the McDonalds at WDW too but I don't see the use in whining about it. Some people like it, I guess, and so :confused3 . I just ignore it. Doesn't McDonalds know that it is pissing me off to have it there? I guess not, if there are those that do like it.

You don't want to hear the word Jesus and I don't want to hear of McDonalds but I bet we'll both survive the horror of it.

1. No anger here. Whenever anyone goes over the top to get a point across is pretty much a windbag as far as I'm concerned, whether I agree with that person or not. Many folks here tend to think I'm anti-Christian when in fact, that isn't even remotely close to the truth. I just tend to disagree with their opinions and interpretations.

2. As for the Beastie Boys, I'm going to have to go out on a limb and tell you that they suck suck suckety suck suck. ;)

Why are you getting so hyper? Sheesh, it's a conversation.

Jesus loves you is not obscene and it is not illegal.

Personally, I wouldn't care anyway. I use offensive language all the time.

The Deity of Your Personal Belief System Loves You

dang... too long.. :(

He is shoving it down peoples throats. He is sky writing..that is his whole point to send the message to as many thousands as possible..He is not Jesus.
Just the way you said some people believe in Allah like we believe in God..Allah is God to millions.

If you seriously feel that way then none of us should ever voice an opinion, thought or idea for fear of being guilty of shoving it down your throat. Yelling in your face, or insisting that my way is the only way or saying you'll burn in hell, knocking on your front door, etc...that's shoving it down your throat. Putting it in writing thousands of miles away from you is not.
