UPDATE: I found the video of the FULL show online at NBC.com! It's only and hour and a half. NBC had added 55 minutes of commercials when they aired it on TV. :badpc: :headache:

Watch it soon, in case someone at NBC realizes they weren't supposed to post the full video, just small clips. :headache: :duck: Although, 2-3 minutes of commercials play before the show starts. It may seem like it's stuck in an endless loop of different commercials, :badpc: but the musical does start after all that. So, maybe they do know it's downloaded and this is their way to make money off of airing the whole musical. And there are periodic commercials during the show.

Anyone else going to watch Jesus Christ Superstar: LIVE in Concert? :yay: :hyper:

It will be on NBC, Sunday at 8pm (EDT). (Not live on both coasts. Will be at 8pm PDT too.)

Composer, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, executive produced this show and was reportedly rather hands-on in making some changes & modernizing this performance.

It stars singer, John Legend, as Jesus.

The supporting cast are almost all seasoned Broadway stars. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
No hiring famous actors who can't sing, as with some of the cast of the Mamma Mia movie. :badpc: Or screechy Gerard Butler as The Phantom of the Opera, :headache: or awful Russell Crowe in Les Miserables. :crazy2:

This cast includes:
Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas. (Broadway: Hamilton, Motown: The Musical, The Color Purple.)

Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene. (Broadway: Waitress.)

Norm Lewis as Caiaphas. (Broadway: Javert in Les Misérables, and in Les Misérables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary, on PBS.)

Erik Grönwall as Simon Zealotes. Erik won the Swedish version of the "Idol" TV competition.

And rock & roll, "shock rock" legend, Alice Cooper as the zany King Herod.

Only Ben Daniels as Pontius Pilate seems to have no musical background or musical credits listed anywhere. :confused3 (On Broadway - 2 plays & a Tony nomination for Lead Actor for Les Liaisons Dangereuses.) But, Pilate has 3 songs and he is a rather key individual :rolleyes1 so they probably need someone who can play the emotional range he goes through more.

If you haven't seen Jesus Christ Superstar, before or are just wondering "What's the buzz," and can someone tell you what's happening :teeth: here is a preview of Brandon Victor Dixon (Judas) singing the title song. I am so psyched up, singing & dancing in my chair, just watching this video. This guy CAN sing! :cool1:

A WARNING for violence: If you are planning on watching with young kids, they do show all of the 39 lashes in painful real time. :scared: :scared: :scared: According to the old Broadway cast album & movie soundtrack, it's about 2 minutes. It's towards the end of the show. You can do a YouTube search for: "Jesus Christ Superstar 39 lashes" to see how it will probably be. Although this is a "concert" TV version, so maybe no real whip used?

Also, there's what happened with Judas. That's usually shown or indicated.

Yet, there's great music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. :rockband:

This is one of my favorite musicals. I've seen 3 or 4 Broadway touring companies, college & regional theatre productions and the movie about a dozen times. Maybe, I'm just being sentimental, but I'm expecting a miracle will happen in this show. :teeth:

I will be with a musical hater but I would like to watch some of it at least. I think it’s one of the best composed musicals of all time. And I love John Legend’s voice!

I'll check out, but I'm not a fan of musicals as a rule. Before JCS was ever mounted on stage it existed only as a recorded work. I bought the album when it came out and really enjoyed it. For me the original recording will always be the best presentation of the material. I do appreciate talented performers so maybe I'll like this more than I think I will. :)

ETA: I have seen several iterations of the material ranging from a straight forward concert, to stage performances both amateur and professional, and I saw the movie. For me the "theater in my mind" while listening to the album was the best of all of them.

I will watch! I am a hug musical fan. I know song of the muci but have never seen “Jesus Christ Superstar”.

I am excited to see it! I love the show and, according to my DS (a college musical theater major and walking encyclopedia on all things Broadway), the cast is amazing!

I still have that brown album. :thumbsup2

I also still have the movie album of JC Superstar with Ted Neeley.

But don't you think the brown album is superior? I hated that movie, the music just seemed watered-down from the original.

Can't wait! Saw it on Broadway in the 70's and has always been one of my favorites. I am not a fan of these live musicals on tv (from what I watched of Sound of Music, it was painful,) but this one I am actually looking forward to watching.

LOVE, LOVE the casting, John Legend, Alice Cooper.

Although I cannot believe a certain group of my relatives are refusing to watch because John Legend doesn't resemble the white bearded guy in pictures.

It is my favorite musical! I was worried it wouldn’t be good as I’m not usually a fan of these live things they’ve been doing. Judas is my favorite part (based on his music) so that’s the one I was most worried about. But, after watching that preview, that might be one of the best Judas’ I’ve ever seen! Still worried about John Legend, though. I know he can sing, but I don’t know if he’s capable of the style I think is needed for the Jesus role. We’ll see! But, now I’m excited!

Alice Cooper has played or at least recorded as Herod before. I have an album with him singing the role of Herod. He did a good job as I recall.

If they’re offended by that then they probably won’t like any of it. It’s not intended to be a church service.
