I'm really excited to watch this. My mother is a huge fan so I grew up listening to the soundtrack. We can't wait!

But don't you think the brown album is superior? I hated that movie, the music just seemed watered-down from the original.

I preferred the ST but as it happens in a lot of these cases, whichever one I was familiar with first is usually my favorite. I saw the movie and LOVED it and the ST album both, and that prompted me to buy the original recording which I loved but preferred the ST more. I haven't really cared for any of the subsequent recordings that have come out over the years.

I have this on vinyl but have never seen the show, so I'm interested to check this one out. A lot of the recent televised musicals have been pretty blah so hopefully this avoids that...

ABC aired it last night. Not sure if you knew that based on your post. They're airing American Idol tonight so maybe they felt it would do better against JC Superstar.

It's mostly been broadcast on the Saturday evening before Easter for years now. I really can't remember the last time it was shown on Easter Sunday.

I'm watching it - looks really interesting so far! I played that Brown album to death when I was a kid. Watched some of the movie this morning with my son - he had lots of questions! I had forgotten about this show airing tonight, so thanks for posting!

Although I cannot believe a certain group of my relatives are refusing to watch because John Legend doesn't resemble the white bearded guy in pictures.

I think that is why this has been promoted as a "concert" rather than a recreation of the story. They don't have to be so literal with the casting and can concentrate on the music and getting the best performers. I guess they couldn't find a white bearded guy who could also sing the role.
