Jesus changed my life!!!!!

ummm..ok. i come here to post what i hope can be some common ground - that i find inspiration in jesus, though not on a religious level and you post this.

welcome to reason number 2 why i am an atheist. you know, when someone who is an atheist posts something like i did, maybe it is not the best thing to post something calling their belief foolish and patronizing. there are a few christian disers who i have learned a lot from and respect a great deal (sadly, i have not seen them post here in awhile - giving a shout out to DisneyDebbie and WDWHound wherever you are). in my experience however, there are a lot more christians here on the dis who take an automatically negative attitude to an atheist interested in religion. have you guys never heard the expression you catch more flies with honey than vinegar???

at any rate, i completely disagree with c.s. lewis's viewpoint. there doesn't seem to be much point in me elaborating on that, however.
Sorry I hadn't even seen your post. I wasn't trying to be mean. Just bad coincedence I guess. :guilty: I am extremely sorry that it happened that way.

He discussed this in his book. In the New Testament, he is called the only begotten Son of God. God only begets God. God created us. We aren't God, in a way, he is the sculptor, and we are the statue. There would be a difference between a begotten Son of God, and a created Son of God. I would have to get the book back from my friend when he finishes it so I can remember everything he had written about it.

Besides, when he was using the term, he was talking about Jesus' claim to be God.
But those are two different things..Calling oneself the son of G-d IS compatable with Judaism..Calling oneself G-d is not compatable with Judaism and would be considered Idolatry...You used the term Son of God in your CS Lewis quote.

Thank you Jesus (the Son of God) for dying on the cross for the sins of all mankind. :thumbsup2 :sunny:

and for rising from the dead and sending out Apostles to witness to the world that whomever shall believe in you shall not perish but have eternal life. :goodvibes

I read Saxsoon's post and I was hoping that you wouldn't take offense to it. Although, I can see why you would. I'm sorry, please don't let insensitive Christians turn you away, we aren't all like that, and neither is Jesus. :)

thanks. :)

i am sure you will not look like a whale!!! whales don't stand anyways. ;)

i know how you feel. even now that i've lost 75 pounds, i am still a good 40 pounds heavier (also 5" taller) than my little sis. she also has a bigger chest and is prettier than me (and always has been - even when i was not overweight). :rotfl: oh well.
I sypathize... I have 2 older sister..They are both tall and thin.. One is 5 ft 9 the other 5 ft 8..I'm 5 ft 3 and built differently...One was a beauty queen.. Miss Yankee and a bunch of other titles..The other was a model... I was always just plain jen and now even though I'm only 15 pounds over my ideal weight they manage to make me feel like the fat, plain little sister..They were very tough to live up too

Very nice stories of how God and Jesus works, still, to this day.

I grew up in church and didn't really learn much about God and Jesus. I suppose we prayed and stuff at church but it truly meant nothing, really.
When I was about 8 or 9 we were walking into a Woolworth's store in Manahawkin, NJ and there was a man, a Gideon, handing out little new testaments. I took it even though I had a Bible at home and looked through it as we walked. I turned to the back where it talked about Jesus and accepting His gift of salvation. I had no idea what it was really talking about but I knew I wanted it! I told my mom, I wanted to do that and she was clueless and said, "later".

I believe with all my heart that at that moment I accepted Christ and what He did and who He was. I knew very little about Him. It wasn't until I was 10, almost 1, that I went to a church that fully explained it all. I was again, prayed that prayer, was re-baptized and knew I was a child of God's through Jesus Christ.

There is no blinding light like Saul/Paul, there is no "wow" factor to my story. Just a simple recognizing who God was/is and what Christ has done for me. I thank God for those Gideons who supply Bibles everywhere for people like me who want and need to know Christ.

Some people are like me and hear it, want it right away and accept it. Some people take much longer and some people never want it and don't ever accept it. We each have a choice. I think that is a huge part of the draw for me to God. He doesn't make anyone believe in Him but He does ask us to choose. :)

Saxoon is generally a very nice conscientious poster...I made a faux pas on this thread and maybe Saxoon did too..Hopefully our longstanding posting willh hold us in stead.

I apologize. I guess I should have said that his post was insensitive to CaityCaity, but not that he is an insensitive Christian. Again I apologize. I don't know Saxoon, I shouldn't have judged him(or her).

No need to apologize to me :cool1: I just didn't want you to think he's one of *those* posters....He's also a teenager who is very wise for his age.
Saxoon...Sorry to talk about you like your not here.

I agree, Jenny. I don't think Saxoon would have posted that deliberately. I think it was a coincidence.

I hate to see Caity hurt by this misunderstanding. I think she is such a thoughtful poster--esp. on this type of thread. She's an atheist but she is always so respectful of Christian beliefs even though she doesn't share them. :goodvibes to CaityCaity. I hadn't even seen her in a long time. :guilty:

I am a he lol, and it is no problem. It is hard to explain, but for me, it was a quote that has kind of stuck to me. I was only hoping it would have been seen positively, and not the way caity took it. But when I look back on it, it was not one of my wisest posts.

Thanks Buck and Jenny. :grouphug:

And Jenny, I am a fly on the wall. ;) I am there, waiting. . . and waiting.

Buckalew11, thanks for sharing your story. I enjoyed reading it.

Saxsoon, I feel horrible. Again I'm sorry. Open mouth and insert my big fat foot. I didn't read your other post about how you didn't see CaityCaity's post. I'm going to sign off now before I step in it any deeper.

Don't do that.Come on. Did you see how I started out in this thread? We all make a boo boo... This thread has turned out to be a good one.

I'll be back........tomarrow. I'm really tired and it's time for bed. Maybe then I won't say stupid things. :goodvibes

If you feel bad imagine how I feel. I would need Michael Jordan's shoe to fit into my mouth. If I have time during Desktop Publishing tomorrow, I will stop by. If not, I will see you all really late tomorrow night because of football game. Whole marching band thing.

I'm sorry, but knowing that you're Jewish (because you've told us many times before), it sounds as if you're ridiculing or making fun of those of us who are Christians. I find your post to be in very poor taste.

:confused3
I would agree Jenny.

I'm kind of disappointed because you are usually so tolerant of other folks'
religions. I always enjoy your input into religious discussions because it is usually so respectful.

I expected different from you.
:sad2:

You don't get a pass on this one-shame on you :sad1:
