You know I think TV watching goes along with that. The Holy Spirit will convict us individually in His time about that. As I've gotten closer to God there are shows that would have never bothered me before that I can't stand now. I don't think I was any less saved when "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was my favorite show, but I'm definitely more sensitive about it these days. I'm just glad that show is off the air, the temptation to watch it would be too great. Even passing it on reruns is hard sometimes :rotfl: (By the way, I'm not trying to say people shouldn't watch Buffy, I'm just talking about myself).
I got to meet Amber Benson(Tara) a couple years back along with the head monster dud from HUSH...The one that was ripping peoples hearts out.

Oy Vey! Another Jesus topic! ;)

Jenny's Jewish and so was Jesus :)

Like Jenny, I went on a spiritual journey, though mine was a little different.

I was a cultural Jew with an Xmas tree, then an agonostic, then I flirted with Buddhism , then finally settled on the Episcopal church.
"For thine is the kingdom, power and glory, forever and ever."

gg:) Baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit- Easter 2006 :sunny:  :cloud9:

Cathy,

I am sorta the *rebellious* type also. I ask a lot of questions and I am the type to hash it out with the preacher or whoever. Now, I may be wrong and I may learn a lot from the discusion but, I'll still hash it out. I don't like to be preached to, I don't like to be told someone's opinion (I don't care what their opinion is, honestly.)

So this is what I do. I search the Bible for answers. And if you are going to answer my question, answer it with scripture. (People here hate scripture for answers but that is my preferred answer). So often, take the drinking thing for example, Baptists will say it is "wrong". My preacher now says that and we have hashed it out, LOL. Show me, in the Bible, where it says not to have a drink. I know it says "Be ye not drunk with wine." But it doesn't say not to drink. Therefore, Baptist belief or not, I say it is not wrong. Just because the preacher says/believes that is wrong doesn't mean I have to agree.
And my pastor doesn't "preach" about that type of thing anyway. I think he realizes that it is his personal preference. I don't even average 1 drink a year but, please, do not tell people it is wrong when you can't back it up.

I don't think any one church ever pleases you entirely. I think you have to find the best fit. I think you should ALWAYS keep the relationship between you and GOD and not the preacher, the congregation or anything else. The relationship with God is always what matters the most. JMHO.

Oh my Jenny, you got a new tag from this thread! Now you're going to have lots of explaining to do!

I grew up in a christian home, so my light bulb moment wasn't as "defined" as someone who converted, .

I often think that for me (and others) that the light bulb just happened to be on a dimmer switch instead of an off/on.

Jesus made my life!!! And continues to every day!

I think it's a lot like the parabel in the Bible about the 2 sons who were forgiven their debts. One owed $10,000 and the other $100, which one was more greatful? The one who was forgiven the greater amount, because he a larger debt to repay.

Those of us who have grown up in the church and have never done anything Earth shakingly bad don't always know what it's like to be completely forgiven in ways that those who haven't always know Jesus are.

I agree with alot of that. I think some of my problem is I don't like being told what is right and what is wrong. Not everything is black and white. I just don't believe that. I love going to church (I really should more often) I love learning about the bible, but I don't like being preached to (no pun intended) of how I should believe. I think people believe in alot of different ways and no way is better than the other. I truley believe that. Does that contradict what I thought was my "religion"? probably. So what does that mean? Does that mean by Baptist terms I'm not a true believer because I don't agree with them 100%? I don't know. I do know that some things that are taught I do not agree with at all. So where does that leave me? I feel sometimes like a Christian without a home.
And how does one go to their Pastor and talk about these things? You know they will say that you are wavering in your faith and Satan is making you doubt yourself. That's not what I want to hear. I want real explanations, help me sort things out even if it means leaving one church for another. Afterall their goal is to save, right?
How's that for a tag! LOL

I think both of you are right. There is a lot of legalism in the Christian faith. However, I think it's important not to loose sight of the big picture- Jesus. As long as we believe in Him, we will be saved. End of story. It doesn't matter how many good things we do or if we refrain from drinking, stay home on Sunday, ect. That stuff is trivial and I think it's a big waste of time to dwell on it. Please don't let what some of these legalistic Christians believe keep you from Jesus.

God's flicking my switch on all the time! :rotfl:
He's always revealing something new to me.

But in terms of the "saved moment" I was saved as a child and don't remember the actual day. I remember lots of growing experiences along the way, and a day in high school when I rededicated myself but the actual choice day...not so much.

Jenny, I love you, I really do, but, oh nvm, it would be beating a dead horse. ;)

I haven't had a drastic change in my life, I have always been Christians. But three men that help out with my youth group, according to them, are changed drastically. Two of them were on several drugs of choice and were really close to landing in jail. Another was so wrapped up in his own pride and arrogance, he missed his sister's wedding for a golf tournament. These three men I believe are shining examples of Christ, and I must say I was shocked to hear they were this way before coming to Christ. Two of them are raising beautiful families at this time. I trust these men a lot are people who truly earned my respect.

And I know quite a few people with similar stories, which is exactly why I know there is something inherently good about Christianty.
