jehovah witness

This is OT, but I am curious. Since you are atheist, do you celebrate Christmas? If not, what do your kids do at school when all the Christmas stuff is being done?

Pardon my ignorance, but I wasn't sure if atheist celebrate Christmas to just go with the flow or what. I guess my brother is atheist - says he doesn't believe in god. He doesn't have any kids, but lives with his girlfriend and she does put up Christmas decorations. I've never talked about religion with her - hardly know her, so I don't know her religious beliefs.

I'm not who the question was posted to, but I'm atheist and always celebrate christmas. It is not religious at all for us. It was a celebration time before Christianity so it makes sense that non christians can celebrate at that time...it is a time to get together with friends and family and spend time together, remebering/celebrating the year and just being together.

If you don't want Jehovah's Witness' to knock at your door, call or write the Kingdom Hall to be place on the "do not knock" list. Once you do this we will only call on your home once a year, in the event you have moved.

How about just respecting peoples wishes and not calling back at all.

I am assisting anyone who wishes not to be constantly visited by us. I not going to argue, debate or defend. If you wish not to be disturbed ask to be placed on the "do not call list".

To the poster who asked if it was murder to deny treatment to a child. well I am on the ethics committee where I am employed and I will say that it has certainly came up in conversation as to whether it should be a leagality for a sick child whos parents are denying necessary treatment to become a temporary ward of the state

This is not intended as an attack against you, but just using your statement to address the following point:

There are some who might suggest that your "religion" is to worship at the altar of modern medicine, cram it down the throats of others, and to assert that those who do not believe as you do are unfit parents. :confused3

I wouldn't go to that extreme.... I certainly think ppl have a right to die with dignity for instance... I don't agree with prolonging life just for the sake of it and I wouldn't want to be kept alive at 85 by artifical means...

However a child who is sick, has a low hemoglobin and needs blood but is being denied that right because of her parents insane religious beliefs is wrong! If that parents want to die well then its their right, but they shouldn't force that on a child :confused3

"Only" once a year is what I get now and it's one time too many. After I say no once - be respectful and don't ever come back.

Trust me, they don't come back to where I live once a year, infact I would bet they are still not going to places I used to live just incase I might still be there.

Do you dress up as a JW?

:rotfl2:

Don't forget the Thin Mints! :thumbsup2
:rotfl2: I should dress up, but I doubt anyone will let me near their door to get candy! :lmao:

I am not going to write or call the Kingdom Hall. Just like I don't respond to spam or junk email that says "click here to be removed from our list." Cuz everyone knows once you respond, you're ......... (can't say because I have too many points).

Speaking of medical treatment and religion. I once dated a guy who was Christian Scientist and they don't believe in any medicine. I had a cold and was taking cold medicine, he told me I didn't need it, I just needed to take a bunch of vitamin C. He said that they don't even take Tylenol. I don't know how his mom survived. My kids frequently give me headaches.

LOL :rotfl: Me too and I only have one

Well a JW church is two doors down and all my neighbors have no soliciting signs, our house came with one, LOL! The problem is the nighbor hood JW don;t think they are soliciting!

So the bible says Christ died that all my be saved not just the 144K :confused3 But a jw decided to one up god and number the peeps going to heven, how many JW in the world are there? Do you get a membership number? What if you are member 144,001?

I am a Christian nurse who has seen plenty off people saved by blood or plasma. I myself needed to have one after I almost died during childbirth , I have to respectfully disagree with you on that.

Do you mind pointing me to the scripture that JW base their not having Blood transfusions? seriously I would like to know.

I do think the Bible tells us to take blood BTW, the blood of Jesus. But you guys don't believe him as the Son of GOD.
The 144,000 refers to the Jews that will become Believers and will witness to other Jews during the days of the Tribulation prior to the second coming.
After recieving a bllod transfusion after the birth of my first child and being very ill from it I would never accept blood when bloodless means are available.

I'm sure I will not find the right words to express my thoughts but I'll give it a try.

Jehovahs Witnesses believe that there is one God,Jehovah who is the universal sovereign and deserves our worship. He created all things.Jesus was his first creation and is his firstborn son.

When Jehovah created the Earth he did so with the purpose of having the original humans live on it forever under his direction. When Adam and Eve listened to Satan and sinned against him,Jehovah put in place his purpose to get us humans back to living on a paradise Earth forever.

This was accomplished when his son Jesus gave his earthly life in sacrifice for Adam's sin.Gods Kingdom with Jesus Christ as head will take over and bring mankind back to perfection with the prospect of everlasting life.

The Bible is the word of Jehovah given with Holy Spirit to men to write down for our instruction.

This is what we believe in short. This is the basis for all other things.

It is a way of life and takes faith to believe. Now some will say we're crazy for believing this way but it makes sense to me.

As for the OP's experience, all I can say is that we are all human and some have less tact than others.Older ones seem to be more direct in their manner. That said you should only have to say you don't want to talk.Sorry.

We have a commission from Jesus to tell others about Gods Kingdom and door to door is how Jesus himself said to do this.

Let's say you just went out and had the absolute best meal you've ever had.You loved it.Would you keep it to yourself or would you tell your family and friends about it.Now maybe most of your friends don't like that type of food.Ok but you told them about it.One friend however was dissatisfied with the food he's had lately. Now he knows where to go to try it.
Some time has passed now and you ask some of your friends again if they have tried this new food. Most say na just don't like that. But one says you know I've had some bad experiences with the food around here lately and I think I'll give it a try.

This is how I can think to compare our ministry. We think we have something great and are trying to share it with everyone. No Witness wants to make anyone feel bad at all.Trying for the opposite.

It's very hard for most to go up to a strangers door, knock and in the best case speak when you're maybe not the best speaker.Or the worst case.....

I just had a young man come to my door selling some things. He was so nervous he could hardly get out what he wanted to say. That was only for cookies and candy.(I did get a cup he had)

Of course we believe what we have is great and want to share with our friends.

Just a little more on some of the things that have come up through the thread.

Money was brought up a couple of times.Everything is done on a donation basis. There are no percentages or anything like that.We do not charge for bible study or literature. All work done on our meeting places and worldwide work is voluntary donation.

As far as blood goes.We are to "abstain from blood".It boils down to our faith here.We will not accept blood tranfusions.Anything else humanly possible to do including for some, transplants.Just not life blood.

As parents we have the responsibility before Jehovah for our children until they can make a dedication to him themselves or are old enough to be on their own.We believe the universal sovereign has the power to bring us back to life in the future if we die.I will tell you that I love my wife and children very much.If one of them died from bloodloss I would be devestated. But there is where the faith part comes in.I know that they will be in Jehovah's memory and he will bring them back at his time.

One last thing since I know this is very long.

My hope is to live forever on a paradise earth.I do not think I will go to heaven. The 144,000 humans that are given the prize of heavenly life will rule with Christ over the Earth. The rest of humanity will be here on Earth.

It is so hard to type what is in our thoughts sometimes so if anything said in the thread has hurt or bothered some please try to remember this.

Some will think I'm crazy, dangerous, bad or many other things but you know I just think I'm a normal guy.I have the same problems everyone else has.I just have a different way of life that makes sense to me.

I relaize you feel justified and you seem like a nice man, however it doesn't make me think it is any less insane.... especially some of the things you have written here, if your child were to die from bloodloss and you could live with that well then as much as I feel terrible for your child, that is your issue....

I really must say that I feel sorry for you, to believe some of the things you have posted here... I am sure you feel sorry for me because I choose to live a life without fear of a god I don't believe exists. But none the less, my child will never go without necessary care because of my beliefs and I can live with that as well ;)

I have to say there's one serious flaw with the food analogy. No sane person would go door to door and bother strangers to let them know about this great restaurant you found. As you said you would want to let friends and family know I am not your friend nor am I your family. I am a stranger. Knocking on my door to tell me about a restaurant would be very strange, it's no different when it's YOUR religion. Let's also not forget the fact that the general population for the most part is intelligent enough to do research of their own - be it restaurants or religion so they can make their choices when they decide to try something different.

When people are bothered and offended and want you to leave them be - that should tell you something. It should make you realize that, even though it's not your intent, your mission in it's current form is selfish because it makes YOU feel good but pisses off many in the process.

My neighbor and I decided that next time the JW's come knocking we'll be calling the police. We live in a private community with no solicitaion signs posted at all the entrances. If the girl scouts can take that seriously then a bunch of adults can too.

Well... they are delivering the good news... they just have to let you know how you can be saved... whoops you are not one of the 144,000... you are S## out of luck I guess! ;)

the point is - I shouldn't have to hear them knocking on my door...if I am interested, I will search them out.

Sorry, was trying for something we all could relate to.
It was more about considering everyone on earth our friend.I do try for that.

Care to share the passage that says you should go door to door? Closest I can find is to go out into the world, that doesn't mean to disturb people at their homes.
