Jaws closing for good on Jan 2

I'm pretty sure the replacement will be Potter 2.0. Think about the benefit to this.

-Guests now have to buy a 2 park ticket. They'll want to see all of Potter, and see everything else in the parks now.
-They'll market the resort as "2 Harry Potter parks, spend 2 days to see it all."
-It'll balance the crowds out, to not make IOA a freakin madhouse.

I bet it's the finance team running this decision. Also, the train ride between the 2 areas is not possible, at all. There are way too many backstage buildings and service roads that are vital to the parks operations, plus taking a train ride to another park would bypass paying for the other one.

With all the rumors of HP replacing Jaws I think the biggest obstacle to that is JK Rowling. I can't see her signing off on a pure money grab. Expand in IOA? Almost guaranteed. Open up second one in Universal? Can't see it. If it was all about maximizing dollars we'd have Coke in Hogsmeade and gigantic stores. She's about authenticity and unlike Lucas and even Spielberg she's not going to sell out her franchise just to get some short term payoff.

Keisha,

We just went out to DL last year and rode Mr Toad. I gotta say....it wasn't as cool as I remember as a kid at MK. We rode it for nostalgia's sake but both walked off it and went....huh.:confused3 It's different with JAWS for me.

I'm sure we'll be back to U...for sure in October of next year...just sayin';) I just hope it's not Transformers. I seriously doubt that when kids grow up and get to be our age;) , some 36 years after the Transformers movies, that the films will even be a blip on their radar. If not, U can just flip the Spiderman/Transformers ride scenario to whatever is current and hip.

you can still travel to DL to ride Mr Toad's Wild Ride. Once jaws bites ;)the dust, bruce will only be viewed on the USH tram tour...a brief encounter.

Actually, Jaws (And Back to the Future for that matter) are still open in Universal Studios Japan

I hope Lombards survives in some way... it's one of my favorite places to eat at US

Lombard's is technically in the San Francisco Area...just past Lombard's is where Amity is, so it will probably be safe

Mr Toad in DL is a much shorter version than the one we had in WDW, that might be why.

Thanks! Because we walked off that thinking we must have had really low expectations as kids. I knew it was cooler than that!:thumbsup2

how about the friday before columbus day...........
be there
or
be square..........:rolleyes1

Only if the crowds at both "Lands" aren't insanely ridiculous.

I think I will change my sig to "We're going to need a bigger boatLOAD OF CASH" ;)

My thoughts and ideas about this whole thing (might get long)

First off, I am a little sad to see the ride closing. I am glad that I was able to ride it a few times this past summer at least. However, I am looking forward to seeing what Universal has planned.

Now, first off about HHN. I have never been (always been to scared, but maybe this year (I tell myself that every year, lol)). However, I always read about it and watch videos online.

What makes the most sense in my eyes is to go back to the two park experince. Make a large temp bridge over the water near Disaster that leads to the other side of the park (would lead to the right of Simpsons if facing the ride). So, for HHN, guests would have access to all the areas of the park they had in the past except the Amity area. Then they could open up a few lands in IOA as well to handle the smaller area for guests during the event. Would give them access to some showbuildings and areas that have not been used much for HHN in the past.

Now, lets switch gears to what I think they will be placing in the area. I personally think Transformers is not an option. Sure I would like the ride, but it really is just Spiderman with a new theme (same ride system). Also, I think if it was Transformers, today or tomorrow would be an ideal time to announce it since the first version of the ride offically opens either today or tomorrow (can't remember which). There has to be a reason they have not said anything.

I think that reason is, they are waiting to make a huge HP announcement. According to Screamscape, the rumor is that work walls will start going up in Feb. for the start of Phase 2 near the current HP area (notice the rumor just mentions the HP area, doesn't mention Jaws. Work walls can (and will now) go up sooner at Jaws). While I would like them to take over the rest of that side of the park up till Suess, I don't see that happening...at least for the time being. I simply think a train station will get added to IOA which will keep the flow of the park almost the same. I can't see them wanting to basically close off one entrance into the area only leaving the JP entrance as the only way in and out...that would be a nightmare!

In terms of Jaws, that is a huge piece of land they are clearing out which could easily handle a "train" ride. I personally don't see them placing a real working train into the parks that can be seen by the public going from one park to the other. Instead, the more logical I think idea, would be to greatly expand on the King Kong 360 experince (without the 3D) and basically create the look off a train that travels in a tunnel that is one very major video screen that shows the train ride. Think about it, the train could even get attacked like in the movies to really make the train experince a thrilling ride. There is simply no way they would create a train ride through the backlot that is open air simply because of the amount of theming involved. With this tunnel system, all they have to create is the tunnel and all the buildings around the area can stay the same. Personally, the train ride to Hogwarts is the missing feature to the area...it just doesn't seem right to walk there.

For those that don't know what King Kong 360 is, it is basically a large tunnel that wraps around nearly the whole train area (it stops below the track so the rider does not see where it ends). This tunnel then has a huge video screen wrapped around the whole tunnel and then video projection is played that wraps around the whole train. Basically they are able to totally wrap you (and the car you are sitting in) in a huge video so all you see is a video playing. It really transports the viewer to another place and time because of how well the effect works. The video projections could even be attached to the train or on a moving track so that way video is only playing when a car can see it and not always playing to save on some cost of projectors.

Now, that train ride would not take up much space, so a lot more can go into this area. I would think another MAJOR thrill ride and another family friendly ride is in order along with more shops and places to eat, and off course Butterbeer! The idea of getting Butterbeer at both parks makes me SOOOO happy!!

I think the reason they are holding off on the announcement is because they want to create a major announcement in the coming weeks that will cause all us HP fans to go nuts. The Hollywood version of HP has not been made offical yet. So, I am thinking we will get one major announcement about a whole new HP area at Orlando along with the first area in Hollywood.

A few months ago they finally knocked down the old Hard Rock building that had been empty for years. Not totally sure where that was, but maybe that was in the way for this "tunnel" train ride so it had to go.

In terms of profit, this will be huge for Universal Orlando. They will go from one park with HP to two parks with HP and yet it will all seem to "fit" together since in the books Hogwarts and the London train station are very far apart. Adding another HP restaurant to Universal will give die hard fans a place at each park to eat. In just makes a lot of sense to have HP in both parks.

The only thing I am not sure about are the tickets. I could see them simply doing away with the single park tickets and just making every ticket sold a ticket to both parks. That would make the train ride be open to all since everybody could switch between both parks when they wanted.

Of course, this is all my thoughts and ideas based on rumors I have heard and with the past success of the King Kong 360 experience. Expanding that concept into a train ride though the london country like in the movies with an attack would just be an epic experince. But who knows, maybe they are planning a whole new movie (or book, or both) concept. The Hobbit is coming out soon, so maybe a land based on Lord of the Rings. With the success of HP, I can't see Universal closing a whole land to just replace it with a few rides from different movies or books. Universal sees that guests want a total experince that is very detailed based off of one concept. I personally and hoping for more HP, but whatever book or movie they pick to recreate in that area should be good and will most likely open up around the time of Avatar at Disneyland to knock the wind out of Disney's sails once again.

If you look at the whole back part of Universal, everything from Twister to the Fear Factor show the only good attractions are Mummy and Jaws, the Fear Factor theater has to stay for Bill and Teds in HHN,but aside from those three you could remove Twister,Beetlejuice and Disaster without me blinking an eye,Jaws however was a classic,as others have put it it's like if Magic Kingdom removed Pirates of the Caribbean. It seems like all my favorites,King Kong,Back to the Future and now Jaws are getting removed while the attractions that really need to go are not.Hopefully the replacement will become a favorite as Mummy and Simpsons have been good replacements for BTTF and Kong.Even ET can go and I wouldn't mind,I'm going to trust Universal on this one and hope and pray whatever they create to take over will be amazing and have a full fledged E Ticket ride.

All I am hoping for is something that I want to ride each day instead of once a vacation. For me, Jaws had turned into a once a vacation ride---along with Twister and Disaster.

One of the main reasons why I am enjoying Universal more than Disney however is the fact that they keep adding new stuff, quickly! Universal doesn't have the space that Disney does (nor the money) but Universal keeps adding more and more high tech rides while Disney is really falling behind.

I am fine with them removing rides over time. Sure Twister needs to go, but that space is very, very small and not much can go there. Instead of closing it, it remains open because once a ride is closed, the number of guests allowed in the park is reduced because space for guests to be at any given time is reduced. What Universal has planned has to be MAJOR for them to remove not just a ride this time, but a whole LAND of one of their parks. The last time Universal removed a LAND we got HP which brought them so much success and money. Universal these past 10 years really has been at the top of their game in terms of adding new rides at a great pace to keep people coming to the parks. The last major ride Disney did was Everest, and that ride was not even that major in my eyes because of how small the roller coaster portion of the ride is.

I really wish Disney would spend more time and money at Disney World instead of building new resorts overseas. Sure I am happy that Disney is expanding into new parts of the world, but Disney World could really use some major additions. When the deal was signed to merge Disney and Pixar I fully excepted a Pixar themed park to become a 5th gate at Disneyworld with each land of the park themed to a different Pixar movie. Instead we got a small little area in HS that has one ride.

Sure Jaws is a classic for us now, but for our kids that might not have had the chance to ride Jaws, the new ride will become their classic. I think Jaws had its fair run in the parks and its now time for a more current movie to take its place.

As far as Fear Factor goes, I could see them keeping it because they are bringing the show back to TV in a few months. Of course, if it does go, there are other places for Bill and Ted if Universal went with the two park HHN concept they used in years past. With a whole area of Universal gone now, I could easily see them returning to the two park format at least until this new area is finished. If this new area does become HP, then I think the two park concept will be around forever because no holiday events can take place inside any HP area based on the agreement with JK.

King Kong 360 experince

I would accept that ride a little more than I would HP or Transformers. Of course that movie came out way back in 2005 and fits in more with IOA so I don't think they'll throw us a bone at US with the return of Kong.;)

nce jaws bites ;)the dust, bruce will only be viewed on the USH tram tour...a brief encounter.
I was disappointed in the Jaws area at USH ... but then maybe I was used to Jaws at the Studios :confused3 (yes I know they don't have the space at USH)

For those that don't know what King Kong 360 is, it is basically a large tunnel that wraps around nearly the whole train area (it stops below the track so the rider does not see where it ends). I was sad to hear the original Kong at USH was lost in the fire, but I did thoroughly enjoy Kong 360 - it really is an awesome effect!

Forgive me for being lazy, but I didn't read all the posts. I'll say this, I'm disappointed because I really liked the ride. However, Universal first opened with the expressed idea of changing out its rides on a regular basis. They intended to keep it fresh and new, and I have to say, they've done a pretty jam up job upgrading, so I'm not worried.

Maybe they can keep the jaws boat ride and Frank Kincaid can tell the true story.....I knew there was a reason the DA reopened the case....free US advertising.

I just saw this news in the Universal email. Talk about out of the blue! At least we will get one last crack at it in a couple of weeks.

This is not a ride we hit often, so we are excited about whatever might be going there (unless it is a princess castleprincess:).

I loved Jaws. I now have another reason to dislike Universal.

Thierry Coup (a Uni theme park designer) has said Transformers is not on the cards.

What a shame... wish Universal had given more notice....

From the UK so we arent going to ever be able to ride it again.

Though it was old, it was iconic and my 9 yr old daughters fav ride.
We loved Jimmy N too... now thats gone... cant see much popint buying Universal or IOA tickets for our next trip.

Keep with Disney, Busch, Seaworld etc.

Maybe once all the new things are built in a couple of years, we might come back.

Take out Twister...... RIP JAWS.
