Well, I've run into my first no buy dilemma. I love my coffee and didn't realize I was out of coffee cream. I don't like the coffee with skim milk:rolleyes1

So do I go pick some up? While I am there I have a rather longish grocery list and I might as well get that stuff too since I'm already there.
I wasn't really planning to go until Sunday though.
It's silly to think this much about coffee cream.. but I want my No Buy day:rotfl:

1/1 = $40 groceries & $11 at Taco Bell
1/2 = $30 gas
1/3 = $ 0
1/4 = $ 0
1/5 = $36.01 gas (now to get thru rest of day)

UGH. I have to go to Sam's today. I've had two no-buy days and they felt great. I've been stalling getting ready for 2 hours.
But the kids need some things for their lunches...so, I'll go. I've set a budget for the trip. Now to stick to it. :lmao:

1/1 $0
1/2 $11.45 coffee break and lunch at the mall for me and Mom and greeting cards on sale five for $1. I saved $18.49 on five cards for next Christmas.
1/3 $0
1/4 $0 +$17.64 for return
1/5 dinner with girlfriend - planned before I decided to join January no buy but it will be inexpensive and it is budgeted
1/6 $0 fingers crossed
1/7 $0 fingers crossed

1/1-$0
1/2- $0
1/3- $53.14
Target $19.41 (but hey, I got out well under my normal $100 trip) and
salt for the driveway $29.78 (lets hope three 50 lbs bags will get us through to spring):rotfl: and $3.95 for lunch at work... onsite catering is a blessing and curse.
1/4- $6.55 so close, darn it
1/5- $0
1/6-taking staff to dinner for belated holiday celebration (origionally scheduled for December so this shouldn't count, right:confused3

Good luck neatokimmo on the house!

Ok today should be a small buy day UGH. I left my lunchbag on the counter at home. Luckily my office has free fruit and soda/coffee, so I just drank coffee and ate fruit for breakfast. I plan to do soup/salad in our cafe which is $3.50 so not too bad. At any rate, tomorrow we had planned a costco trip since we just got moved and need to re-stock on everything. We did budget it into our bills for January already. I also have school this weekend, which means I will be out of town all weekend and will probaby eat out. Breakfast is provided daily and lunch one day, so I'll need one lunch and one dinner. Will probably bring some stuff from home for snacks, water, maybe even a lunch. More to come! I definitely feel that even though I'm spending some, it's not nearly what we were before so watching everything by the dollar is helping us!

1/1- spent $75 (gas and things for new house)
1/2- spent $89 (groceries)
1/3- spent $0 YAY, DAY 1!!!!
1/4- spent $12, girl scout registration
1/5- spent $3.50 for lunch
1/6- Costco trip....YIKES.

So far...So good. Still haven't been in a store. We are still eating up what we have on hand as well.

Here is my goal for January:
Family of 3 with 1 dog. And several drop ins at any given time.

Groceries/household- $200/Left (eating out of the freezer this month) But, still need to stock up on a few things like soups. We went thru so much during the freak storm in Oct. Lost power for 11 days.
Car/Gas- $200/Left
Eating Out- $150/Left (forgot DSIS B'day dinner)
Entertainment/Misc- $200/Left(raised due to DD's 2 plays and 2 B'days

Goal of 5/15 No Buy Days

01/01-0-:cheer2:
01/02-0-:cheer2: Calling it now. Brought my breakfast and lunch to work today. Not stopping for breakfast on my way to work 3 mornings is going to be a big deal for me. And going right home from work.[/QUOTE]
01/03-0-:cheer2: Spent the day with great friends going over our dinning ressies and what shirts we are planning on making for our up coming April trip to the World. 3 families, with 11 people. :cool1:
01/04-0-:cheer2: Brought lunch and breakfast to work. My DH said our local BK is going to go banckupt without me. lol
01/05 :cheer2: Calling it now. On Thursdays my work day is 2-7pm.. And by 7 it will be to cold to go anywhere but home. And usually Thursdays is my morning to hit the local stores shopping, Target by my house, and Walmart by my office. And that will lead into buying lunch out at Subway or BK both by the office. Today I stayed home putting Christmas stuff away and continued to reorginize my basement, washed all the bed linens and respace bagged all that we don't use. Seems like Storm Alfred threw our house in a tizzy that we just couldn't recover from. Bed linens were just folded and put every where downstairs. (we had extra guests during the storm. It was one big slumber party).
01/06 This will most likely be a spend day.

I am a little behind on the no buy January but I guess anyday you save money is a good day. I recently became a stay a home mom again until I find a new opportunity. (exciting and stressful)

When I knew that I was going to be home again I took a real look at our finances. Luckly my husband has always been the person who pays for house stuff. I covered the extras so now that the extra money is gone for now I need to make cuts. I would still like a vacation with the family (budget) and I noticed when I was working we spend money on things. Not life changing wonderful things I mean things and I would like to make this year about experiences. I have signed the children up for swim lessons and a summer trip to Washington DC.

Anyway-I noticed that I was spending over $800 on food a month. Now I have a full freezer and stocked pantry and realized that I bought a lot of convenience food that took a tool on the budget. Now I am using what we have in freezer and keeping the grocery bill down to $100-$125 per week. Right that will be the same as one week salary after taxes. So my goal is to have 15 no buy days in January (starting today) and put about $200 away for summer trip.
1/5 -No Buy (Day 1)

Jan 1st- $0
Jan 2nd- $0
Jan 3rd- $0
Jan 4th- $0
Jan 5th- budget buster! It's been cold here in FL and I had an interview of a catering job today. And of course because of it being cold the battery in my car died, no one to give me a jump, so not only did I lose the job I have to buy a new battery :headache:.

Had to go out of town for a dr's appointment yesterday. $98.00 to finish paying off my knee surgery-at least that is a debt I can mark off the list! Plus $10.86 for lunch and dinner :( Oh, well.....

Today was my first day back to work after the holiday and I am trying hard to eliminate the caffeine. I got a horrible headache from it around lunch, though, and caved. So $1.08 for a Mountain Dew :(

I gotta work harder on this!

No buys 2/10
Essentials only 1/18
Blow it days (when I buy stuff I shouldn't) 2/3

I caved in and got a cherry Limeade from Sonic - but it was Happy Hour! LOL!

NO BUY DAYS (5) - 1/4/12
UNDER $10 DAYS (5) - 1/5/12 (spent 1.14)

1/1 $0
1/2 $44.39 Meijer for school lunches/snacks, dinner tonight, and milk
1/3 $0
1/4 $101.51 Meijer (groceries this week under $150!! YAY)
1/5 $0
1/6 get gas after driving kids to school, Michaels for crafts for almost sleepover
1/7 pizza and pop for dinner tonight for almost sleepover

It looks like I'm on trend to spend every other day.

Went straight to work and straight home today - no stops and ate leftovers for lunch. Another No Buy day for me!

01/01/12 = $60.08
01/02/12 = $00.00 1/10
01/03/12 = $00.00 2/10
01/04/12 = $29.86
01/05/12 = $00.00 3/10
01/06/12 = $

Though I already anticipate taking DD out tomorrow night after work to get her some jeans. Poor thing has been wearing two pair of jeans for I don't know how long! :scared1: She didn't tell me until recently, so I promised to take her to get one pair of jeans on payday. $$

Nayan so sorry about the missed job interview and the battery. While it is not budget to buy this, I ran my battery down so many times that my husband bought me a charger that you plug into the wall and can charge your car. It does take about 15 minutes and you have to use an extension cord if parked in the driveway but I have had to use it a few times. Hopefully you won't have a problem again and a better opportunity will come your way.

1/1 $0
1/2 groceries 112.00
1/3 walmart 59.00 of which $20.00 was groceries
1/4 $0
1/5 big spend day $30.00 Dr. copay, 12.99 amazon for a new vacuum filter, $20.00 pull ups. I am not out but had a good coupon about to expire so I now have enough for month at least. $53.00 groceries. $6.00 lunch Jersey Mike's, $2.00 breakfast bar and drink. Was running late for doctors appt. so ran out the door having breakfast and lunch taken care of for everyone but me. Unfortunately this is common. Need to do it at night.

no buy 2/20
groceries 185.00 of 525.00 spent.
Eating out 8.00 of 150.00 spent.

concerned about amount spent in groceries. I was spending about $850 a month so this was an ambitious goal, However I do have everything but milk and some fresh fruit to cover through end of next week. Will see how the end of the month turns out. Went today just to buy meat on sale.

Another no-buy day for me. This is easy to fall back into...

Good job!

For those of you that are discouraged already and perhaps comparing your number of no buy days to others, please keep in mind that some of us have done this multiple times before and we are not building new habits. The first few months really are the hardest.

I stopped for gas this morning and filled my tank at $3.05 per gallon at $29.86. So happy I stopped this morning! It was $3.28 on my way home! :scared1:

Isn't it crazy how much gas prices are bouncing around? Glad you caught it before it went up!

$2.17 on breakfast this morning. I had some other eating out expenses that I used a giftcard for so I am not really counting them in this. And I sold $90 of hairbows in the last 24 hours sort of unplanned so that was fun lol

$90 in hair bow sales! Way to go!

oh oh! and we did the house contract tonight! We find out tomorrow how much they are willing to negotiate. They are way off on their price so let's hope they realize that and let it go. House has been for sale for THREE years! Overpriced by 50k+!

How exciting! Good luck!

I wasn't really planning to go until Sunday though.
It's silly to think this much about coffee cream.. but I want my No Buy day:rotfl:

:rotfl: You really are over-thinking this! So what did you end up doing? And I love my coffee just a certain way also, so I can totally relate! Your thought process sounds exactly like mine would be! (Maybe it's the Piglet in us...)

Good luck tomorrow on the Costco trip. Those can be brutal! You did a nice job keeping the "damage" low with the forgotten lunch.

The part I bolded is why I track my spending. The awareness keeps me in check. It's a parallel activity to dieters who track everything they eat.

Jan 5th- budget buster! It's been cold here in FL and I had an interview of a catering job today. And of course because of it being cold the battery in my car died, no one to give me a jump, so not only did I lose the job I have to buy a new battery :headache:.

What a bummer! I hope something better comes along for you soon!

I caved in and got a cherry Limeade from Sonic - but it was Happy Hour! LOL!

I really wanted a snoball today. I wanted a wedding cake flavored one. But there was a line and I didn't want to wait. :rotfl: I want to get a king cake tomorrow. Yeah, I have a sweet tooth. :rolleyes1
