January 4, 2003!!!!

Oh, I am ALL in favor of meeting up at the sail-away! We'll be getting there early enough that all the ressies will be done, we'll have eaten, unpacked... ok, so maybe I'm a LITTLE optimistic! Still, that's plenty of time. Count us in (notice how I'm speaking for the others... um, Shell, if you're reading this, are you in?)!!

Best Friend is also fellow WDW addict--if she listed every trip beneath her name, it would take pages. :)

Hey DCBlonde - it's me! I'm here and yes, you may speak for me and I would be thrilled to meet everyone for the sail away. Beks, you ARE bringing bubbles for us, right?

:bounce: Can I pack yet? :bounce: Can I pack yet? :bounce: Can I pack yet? :bounce: Can I pack yet? :bounce:

For those travelling to WDW before the cruise--be forewarned. The past 2 years, they've actually had freezing weather (i.e., kill the plants) right around New year's. We visited the same week (first full week in Jan.) and it was still pretty cold, especially the first part of the week. I'm talking 40 at night, definitely fleece/sweatshirt weather. CM's were wearing parksa (which we thought was a bit much, but we're from the Adirondacks!). So, be prepared for anything. Personally, we brought everyone a couple pairs of jeans, and did laundry part way through. We did have some shorts days, and the cruise is south of there, so I'm hoping it'll be shorts weather the whole time!

A DIS meet at sailaway sounds like a great idea! Someone who's done this before should name a time/place (since they know the ship--I'm likely to have everyone standing in a liferaft due to my lousy instructions!).

P.S. mmouse, loved the shoe picture! It just reminded me that, no matter what age your kids are at, they give you something to smile about!

The only forseeable problem with meeting at the Sailaway party is that on our last two cruises, Feb & Aug, the weather was too rainy and they moved it indoors. When they move the sailaway indoors it is either in the atrium area or in the clubs....RockinBarD and Off Beat. so, it would be tough to find each other if it gets moved indoors.

We had a DIS meet once before on our Feb cruise and I think we held it in the Promenade Lounge right after the lifeboat drill and before the sailaway party. That way we could meet and then recognize each other if the sailaway get moved. Just a thought....

I would love to meet but I am travelling with a bunch of family and I doubt I could get them all to come, but if I can be there I will!!!

Any other ideas on where to meet????

MJ

Yep, I am absolutely bringing bubbles! Thanks for the reminder, Shell--I'll add it to my "must pack" list. And this year I think I'll budget for the appropriate celebratory beverage as well.

And thanks for the "cold" reminder, everyone--I keep thinking I'll only need shorts, etc., but I guess not! Orlando may not be

quite as chilly as DC, but anything below 80 makes me shiver.

You can say that again (about freezing temps in orlando around NYE). I think that is our fault. For the past 2 years we have done NYE at Disney and for the past 2 years there have been record lows. I apologize in advance to anyone who is affected by the freezing weather clearly brought about by our visit!

Packing for this time of year is always tough though... We bring lots of LAYERS and it can be nice during the day and downright FREEZING at night (2 years ago it was in the 20's at night... ugh!) It's still a nice time to go even though it can be cold. We loving ringing in the New Year at Disney.

Hey, DCBlonde. We're neighbors (well, close). I was wondering if DC meant "direct current" or "district of columbia." We live in Greenbelt (all the way at the end of the green line in MD).

last January, our DIS meet was the first sea day of the cruise. We all met by the Mickey Statue outside of Lumiere's around 11:30 a.m. and the staff made arrangements for all the adults to sit at one big table, and the kids at another. We had about a two hour lunch, and had lots of fun! There were three sea days on the eastern and only two on the western, so not sure if you would think this would work for this cruise.

I think meeting for lunch at Lumiere's sounds good. :Pinkbounc

I think the lunchtime meet would be great - embarkation day is so hectic. So, count us in.
As far as the "cool" temps - 40s in the evening/low 60s during the day with a brisk wind that made it feel cooler. We wore sweatshirts, jackets and gloves in the early morning and nighttime. The weather gurus are predicting warmer temps during the next few days. Trust me, I am shocked that I would be whining about winter in Florida!

Wow I am so excited about going on the Jan 4 cruise.... I am bringing my son (8) and my Mother and who can forget my 15yr old brother. We are staying in Daytona the week before and if anyone has advice about anything at all please throw me a line... Oh and the boards are great info!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yippee see you soon

Howdy again, everyone!
I haven't been following the January 4th thread as closely as I'd like, but I do pop in occasionally. I noticed that Fawn hasn't been around lately...has anyone heard from her?
Hopefully hubby and I will be a charm for Castaway Cay...this would be 28 in a row of good weather, although last time we were on board with a lot of DISers, we thought the streak would end as it was rainy and threatening in the morning. Thank goodness the day turned out fine after all! Our streak with sailway is not as perfect (one rainout), but often we are in the spa at that time anyway.
In case we don't make it to to the lunch meet, we'll be in 5650 and also at the Castaway Club party. Hubby and I will be wearing Platinum Castaway Club shirts much of the time, so we should be easy to spot. We can't wait to meet everyone, but beware of hubby and his digital camera or you will end up on our website.

Lumiers sounds good. Maybe we can also go dancing one night!!Maybe formal night! We'll be all dressed up with no where to go except.......dancing. Although, I'm not much of a dancer but I'd like to try.

Lynda

Lynda - I loooove to put on a gown and be a princess(ok,ok, I don't need a gown for the part;) ) but I am really challenged when it comes to dancing in dresses....I'm in if I go for a quick change before! Otherwise, we could sell tickets for the spectacle I would become! Not that I won't be a spectacle anyway...

Rebekah- Now I'm really turning green! Bubbly and everything!
Buzznbellesmom & Lisa - thanks for the heads up, guess I'll be REALLY overpacking now...and we are only allowed 2 bags each!!!What's up with that.....I think I will be leaving some stuff behind at the AKL, as we are going back for one night before we go home.
I am really looking forward to this trip...we have had a horrendous 3 weeks here, family stuff, and I have found myself wishing that if I could only see my dd smile and laugh, and be herself for one day again, I would be happy. I think the cruise will zap her into her old self again. She is really looking forward to seeing your girls at the oceaneer's club.
I on the other hand, am looking forward to one(or several) of those AWESOME frozen drinks, a lounge chair, and a mountain of peace!!!

Do you have room for one more DIS family? Just booked the cruise tonight and I have a lot of research to do.

The cruise is a surprise Christmas gift for our children, Tyler DS11 and Lily DD8.

Can't wait to get to know you in the coming 2 weeks. :)

WOW we really are getting to be a good sized group of DISers on this cruise!!!! Welcome to all the new people joining us!!!

A lunch meeting at Lumiers sounds good, when someone figures out more details please post. I am quite sure we will be staying at the Radisson the night before so we should be able to make the meet there.

Tink33 I also have an 8 year old DD and there are a number of other young girls cruising too. Hopefully we can get them all together! Will you be staying at the Radisson the night before?
What a wonderful Christmas gift for your children!!!

Did someone say "frozen drinks, a lounge chair, and a mountain of peace"? Boy does that all sound great right about now LOL. I am starting to panic about all the things I have left to finish getting done in the next week before Christmas! But yet here I am checking this board with my tired bleary eyes because as my DH tells me I have a sickness, he calls it Disneyitis LOL.

Hey Barb.....I think we all know what you and hubby look like, from all your great pics on your website!!! I am sure we will be able to spot you.

Hey and DIS'er interested in doing the Wine Tasting....I have always wanted to do that and never got the chance. Hubby is not really into wine so I do not know if would go or not, but I do!

I also want to check out the "ballroom/latin dancing" lesson one morning. I really just want some pointers on basic dance. I always feel like I am not doing something right on the dance floor!!

MJ

mmouse, you can count me out on the wine tasting, what with being pregnant and all, but you'll definitely see us at the dancing instruction! Before we had the kids, DH signed us up for ballroom dance lessons as a birthday present for me--one of those things we always said we wanted to do--and I'm pleased to tell you, we weren't the worst couple there! He wants to do the lessons onboard the ship since it's been so long. I'm likely to tire fairly quickly, so if you need a partner, I'd be happy to share DH with you (on the dance floor only, of course, not suggesting anything un-DIS-like here!).

buzznbell'smom.....thanks for the sharing opportunity!!!! I may very well need a partner if I can't get DH to come along...Gee I make he sound like he is a stick in the mud, but he is actually just the opposite....he has been working 16 hours a day every day since 9/11 and he just wants to veg this week. I told him he could do whatever he wanted.....except miss dinner...I would not want him under cabin arrest!!!!

MJ

DH and I did the wine tasting last year. We had a great time and learned alot. I would recommend it.

This year I want to do the behind the scenes tour of the stage. Has anyone done it before?

We also have done the champagne bruch and I highly recommend that, too. This year I would like to try dinner at Palo's. The only hesitation comes from wondering if DD5 will cooperate and spend the evening in the club. I would hate to book it and then not be able to go.

I would love to join you all for a night of dancing. My favorite thing in the world is to dance with my DH. We don't get many opportunities, the occassional wedding or benefit.

See you all onboard. And a special welcome to tink33 :D and ruley3 :D .

I know we were looking at the Thursday wine tasting because of the brunch on Sunday.

I like the idea of meeting in the Promenade Lounge after the safety meeting!

It's been a long week with work and all the holiday activities at night - I'm ready for the peace and quiet of the Magic (and for beating Rebekah at Trivial Pursuit so she has to buy the first bottle of wine!) ;)
