So did some looking - we have a DCL snorkelling tour in the morning. They will probably return us to the Ship so we might just go back on teh ship for lunch and then go to Megans Bay Beach for some beach time. I am not sure how many hours we have in St Thomas so we wont want to go to far.

For St Maarten - we have the whole day so we might do a mini tour and visit Marigot but then swing over the Dawn Beach....supposed to have some good waves which will be fun for the 4 of us.

Okay - here is more info for those who were wondering about Great Bay Beach. The link is for the cruise critic boards, which then has other links in the thread:

It appears at times St. Martin flushes out the sewer system into Great Bay Beach (there is a picture and article of how they did that in Nov 2010). Even though the water looks really clean, I'm sure there are still nasty bacteria that you can't see. :scared1:

Anyway, I just wanted to share the info I found. I know I will be going to The Divi Little Bay Beach resort a few minute taxi ride away from the port.

Hi there,

I looked at the site online and can't find anything that would indicate what the cost for a day at Divi Little Bay Beach Resort would be. Is it a public beach? I know in Roatan last year, the public beach at West Bay was accessed through a resort and you could pay extra to use their facilities. We just used the public beach. Any info would be helpful. It looks amazing!!! Thanks!

I really want to nail down which beach I am going to go to in St Maartan.....I think i will go look on the main board a bit

We are going to Le Galion. Of course I have little ones and this is supposed to have the calmest waters on the island. On the other side, it also has tons of surfing which my 8 year old will think is awesome. All around a good choice for us with the age difference.

Here is a link to all of the St. Maartin beaches, where they are at, taxi fares, and ammenities.

link http://www.sint-maarten.net/St-Maarten-Beaches/LeGalion.html

It will open up to the LeGalionbeach but if you look at the tabs, it will give you info on all of the beaches.

We are leaving when we first get into port and planning on heading back around 1 for a late lunch. I am not too worried about missing the boat!!

Thanks Dena! This is very helpful. Normally we book excursions, but none of us seem to be all that keen this time around. We'll see. :thumbsup2

I was talking with a friend who used to live in St. Thomas and she suggested that if we go to a beach that we go to Megans Bay Beach. So, I think that is where we are going to go too.

Thanks for the link...we were there two years ago.

I too wonder how they would get away with polluting the water or at least have signs posted it wasn't safe. Wonder if they mention it on the boat to stay away? They would not want sick people on the boat. :confused3

I guess we will go shopping instead.... :thumbsup2

I have heard that too. DH has been to St. Thomas a number of times and this is the beach he went to.

We are hoping that our kids will be tired and not want to do much so we can leave them with the in-laws and head off on our own to St. John. If the kids are up and ready for another beach day, this is where we will go.

BTW - I head that the buttefly farm at the pier in St. Thomas is open again. It closed down this past summer and I thought it was closed for good, but apparently it re-opened under new management. It is right where the boats dock so an easy walk for those with kids who are interested in the butterflies who don't want to book an excursion to see them!! I think the pass lasts for the entire day, so you can go in the morning and return in the afternoon since different butterflies come out at different times!!

Great information! Thanks for sharing!

Only 4 more days in St. Louis, 2 days in Baltimore and then we will be on our way to florida!!!

Our TA recommended the Megans Bay excursion. We weren't sure because it will take most of our time there & what if the weather isn't that good. We still haven't made up our mind for St. Thomas yet.

Ugh! I can't make a decision. I have no idea what we should do in St. Martin. After reading about Le Galion beach, that sounds PERFECT for the little ones. BUT, DH and I really want to see the island too. It really doesn't need to be a 3 hr tour (chime in Gilligan's Island music! :rotfl:), but more of a drive around the island.

OH NO MYdaughter just came back from vegas last night and was booked in at the best western buffalo airport found bed bugs! she didnt stay got the heck out of there in a hurry. they got their money back and found a ride home earlier then they had planned to be picked up, it was just lucky she spotted them before she unpacked, needless to say we wont be staying overnight in Buffalo now , we will just leave early and take our chances with the weather. most of the hotels around there are suppose to have them theres a website if anyone wants to know more I will pm it to you:scared1:
