January 2021 last minute trip in times of covid

It was starting to get warm and it was turning into a nice sunny day. We passed one of the badge points in front of the bird show and discovered it was going to start in a few minutes- so we decided to catch the show.

They had an owl out with a handler to entertain you while you waited. We ended up with my husband and I on an end seat and my mom and kids closer to the middle due to all the seats were arranged in fours- so as a party of five we always had to split up that extra person so we usually did some combo of 2 and 3.

Now I highly recommend the stage right side as we had the most amazing view of the owl in flight. He was so close he actually hit my husband in the arm! My pictures aren’t as good, but I’ll try to get his and post them a little later.



Again my kids loved this as they are animal lovers- my son as I have already mentioned is bird obsessed so he loved the macaws and they were disappointed they weren’t selected to have a bird fly though their arms-that we also happened to be there when the macaws left for their circle around the tree of life- which I believe was at 11:30am.

I gave up on getting the extra pictures... as soon as the show was over my kids had school so we headed back to where we had coffee and set them up for some school time. We decided to have lunch at the same time so we got some of the to go Yak and a Yeti to enjoy. I was trying to be respectful to the class by not advertising where we were, but as my son drank his water from a Disney cup and unmuted himself to answer questions with the band passing by on the river, I don’t think we were successful.

Since we didn’t have all he things they needed, we headed out after the kids were done with their first hour of school- they were sneaking their chicken nuggets lunch as they read Jack in the Beanstalk. I didn’t take any pictures with my phone this time as they were using it to go to school.

My daughter wanted to go to Rafakis’ to check out the animals so we headed over to the train. We didn’t have a long wait.


We got some pictures and the kids did a little Scavenger hunt to earn their badge while the throng got off the train and headed into see the sites.



A few minutes behind the crowd some of the people had disbursed from the animals but as the new train arrived more people came which made the petting area not as fun so despite the protest form the kids we headed inside.




We headed inside and discovered they were about to do a drawing of Sheer-Khan. They do this at DCA and my daughter loves this so we had to do it.



Drawings finished we headed over to look at the insects and other animals. We all decided then we had had enough and wanted to go on the Safari as it was around 3:30-4 now -and we wanted to make sure we would have time to do the Safari.

Safari time! I could do a million photos but since they are on my phone they are just ok. Here are some of my favorites of the wild dogs, giraffe and a stretching and yawning lion.







We walked through the animal wake afterward and it was pretty empty here.



As soon as we entered my son started saying he was hungry so wedecided afterwards to get a drink and stop for a snack. My mom and I went for something more adult while my husband headed to the Starbucks over the bridge. The kids utilized the snacks we had brought.

Good but as it was getting cold/ breezy it took a while to drink them. We loved the atmosphere here and had a few laughs



The bar where we got our drinks- we sat in the far back of this place. We liked this area as it was quiet and didn’t have any people if you headed to the back.

I saw the previous picture and I realized I forgot to mention we rode Everest! It happened right before we went to see the Tigers ( and got the badges). My son loved it. My husband and son ended up riding in the very back and my son thought it was the greatest ride ever. My daughter kept waiting to be scared and while she didn’t cry she didn’t love it either. She couldn’t really tell me what’s he thought other then she wasn’t interested in riding it again today. My mom had the same reaction as my daughter.

We literally hung out around the tree just looking at it and trying to find different angles to look for animals. We googled what animals to find, but I like how their isn’t a list so we could just keep looking at it and finding random animals everywhere we went. We took many photos, but here is a few to amuse yourself with spotting the animals. I’ll let you hunt for them on your own, too.





You’ll notice the last photo was from the Bugs Life show line. Things were wrapping up - around 5:15pm we rolled into a show. It was a the same as DCA before they removed it, but my kids were small when it left so they enjoyed watching as it was new to their memory.

We did another pass through the trail so we could again check out the tree and ended at the restroom- much needed. It was almost 6pm and the shops were calling! We were happy it was an early night as four days in we needed a break!




I think I have mentioned that we loved this park so we went crazy buying everything and anything. We spent a lot of money and three bags full here... Just in the front store! While we shopped unit we dropped some music began and we ran out to catch some of the tree of life- leaving items inside in a pile so we could run out and see! Tourist! But it was amazing and so pretty! (Worth stopping for.) It seemed to go on forever and by the time we were done - the park was almost empty. We opened and closed another park.

We finally got back to the hotel at a reasonable hour so we found the shop open. So we had to go in and buy some more stuff! Also these that I heard so much about...


We didn’t eat them until after dinner, but I will say I loved them, but my mom wasn’t as impressed. More for me!

The kids had begged to go to the pool so we thought this would be a good time. My husband took the kids right up to get ready while my mom and I shopped- I came out with a tree of life cup along with the treat.

By the time we made it back hubby and the kids were ready to go so we met them down at the pool while we got our suits on.

I met up with them already in the pool! Brrrr- while heated it wasn’t heated enough for me. I’ll meet you in the jacuzzi...


I didn’t take any photos of the jacuzzi because I was enjoying the relaxation - the adults took turns watching the kids go down the slide a million times and then around 9:30pm we finally headed back the room- though my husband was having a nice chat in the jacuzzi so he stayed to debate the merits of DVC ownership....


I did try the slide at my kids instance and I must say it was rather fun. I didn’t get stuck and it went just fast enough to be run- no slide burns either. Better then my last attempt with them on a cruise ship...


When we first arrived -it was empty, but as we left it was starting to get busy as the other parks had emptied out by then. Though as you can see from this picture -there still wasn’t anyone using the loungers nearby. This was taken-not too long before we left.

The uncomfortable walk to the room was pretty miserable so I would recommend changing out of the wet bathing suit and back into your clothes if you aren’t in a hurry. Brrr I know it’s not Finland cold, but it felt cold for Florida!

Back to the room, the kids showered and made it in time to watch one of the bedtime stories. It was the first time we were in the room early enough to watch it! While they showered I made the Mac n cheese and my husband came back just in time to finish it off while I took a quick shower. ( love the two bathrooms! I even took a shower on some of the late days while my daughter took a bath, in the master bathroom, so we could get it done quicker. Then my mom and son would take turns using the front bathroom. This cut down on our night routine drastically so all five of us were done within an hour).

I’ll also point out the table decor- it was actually a sign with all the covid cleaning protocols. Don’t worry the sign is cleaned too! You can see my moms makeshift bed in the chair too. The table under the tv had several outlets so it was great for charging and keeping masks and magic bands.

Also be aware- no salt pepper or other condiment except cream and sugar for the coffee/ tea. Notice the packets we pilfered from one of the take away stops the first day so we didn’t have to buy any on the table.

We were hoping for an earlier bedtime, but that didn’t happen with the pool visit - it was still around 11:30pm when we went to sleep! I was hoping for a sleep in, but that wouldn’t be happening, as we wanted to make opening again for MK the next day. We had a late reservation to keep, too!

Magic kingdom day 2: (5 days in)
We were keeping an exhausting pace and we managed to get out of bed with the help fo the coffee maker and donuts- which we finished off today for breakfast.

We made it by 7 am to the bus, but again we were the last people to make the bus - lucky- the line formed quickly behind us at the hour to opening mark.


We saw some characters welcoming us in, but we had a ride to catch.


As it was 7:45ish ( around 30 minutes to get from the hotel to here) it was too late for 7 Dwarfs whose line was already an hour long.

We made a right instead.


We literally walked on SM. That was probably the one and only time that will ever happen for us!

By the time we were done we decided we should hit up the short lines in Fantasyland. We started with Peter pan and then did SW.



The potty had to be visited, so my husband and daughter headed for the carousel while the other three of us used to facilities. We rejoined them right as they excited the ride and then went to Winnie the Pooh which we had yet to ride.

But look no line at popcorn! Daddy got some only to eat a handful before having to close it while we waited the ten minutes in line. The line was cute, but it was Pooh. The kids didn’t even try to look at the options in the store. They are too cool for Pooh now.

We hadn’t done the teacups yet either so the kids asked and we had to oblige. You can see who sat it out in the background...Babies!



There was a lull in the 7 Dwarfs’ line that meant we decided to get in line. So the kids didn’t have to wait as long, and my son missed the carousel before, my mom took them over to ride the carousel. Of course it broke down on them and they had to come running over, meeting us just in time to enter the main part where they were checking for the entire party.

My husband and I waited in line and because we were going past the popcorn (which daddy had eaten while the kids and I rode teacups) got a popcorn refill. My husband said his favorite part of the trip was getting the popcorn refills as in DL you have to be an AP (well when they had APs...) and be there the day they went on sale before 10am or you couldn’t get a popcorn bucket you could refill (for a limited time) People collect the buckets so you can’t even get a “regular” bucket to refill in DL which is the vein of my husband’s existence and one of the reasons we let our passes expire for a few months in 2019, before he was lured back with SW land.

While waiting for 7, we all realized we were getting hungry and nearing 9am and we were trying to decide what to eat as we had a dinner reservation for 7pm today that was too far away to just eat snacks. We checked the app and found a reservation for noon at the GF cafe, which was doing brunch. I had peaked my husband’s interest the other day when I mentioned it, so we settled on that as we could make our way over on the monorail with time to spare and not rush.

As we rode 7 this time in the light we debated the merits of the ride in the day and night. Also, we rode the back last time and this time in the front. The consensus was they were all great for different reasons so I recommend multiple rides to see which you prefer.

We headed for the front exit and made it to the restrooms! We caught one of the parades, but as it was one we had already seen the cameras didn’t even come out. I wish I would have taken a pic of the little girl in the home made matching dress costume as the parade characters. I had seen her fluffy polka dot dress and thought that is cute, but not Disney. Haha excuse my ignorance!

While waiting for varied family members we spotted the sorcerer’s sign. What is this? We were intrigued. They explained it to us and we decided it was something we needed to do- after we got back from brunch- more on that later.

Time for a little different ride.

wait! The monorail goes INSIDE?! They were almost asleep until this cool thing happened.

Once the monorail exited the building, they were less interested in the construction at the poly and the long lines at the transportation center. I think with the poly construction and the parking lot utilizing this section it got pretty busy as it had longest line of people waiting for the monorail.

We enjoyed just sitting and checking out the outside of the hotels and ended up at our destination. We had to wake the to get off the monorail.



We were there early so we decided to walk around the shop. Nothing too different, but they did have princess dresses on sale. My daughter has exited the Princess stage so she wouldn’t let me buy her one! They grow so fast.

It was about 11:30 and our reservation was for 12:10, but they weren’t ready for us yet, but took our phone number and said they would call. We headed to the pool area to look around and took some pictures. Since the gate was open we helped ourselves to the pool area chairs and ping pong table.

A worker came up to us and I thought we were going to ge kicked out but he just let us know when we were done with the chair to put the top down so he would know to clean it. Nice system.

My mom and I relaxed and enjoyed the view while my husband took turns Playing the kids. 11:50 rolled around and it meant school. They weren’t to happy to have to stop playing and sign in. I don’t have any photos for a while now because they were in my phone to log into class.

About noon we got a call to come and eat so we headed over to the Cafe. Once again our stealthiness was legendary as my son had to get his temperature taken as he was asked a question in class and unmuted... the staff thought it was funny and said “at least they are going to school”. The Disney drink cup again made an appearance in class, as well.

We figured out our orders, my mom and husband both got the steak and eggs while I ordered the chicken and waffles. My kids both got I will say, I ordered correctly and everyone had food envy as it was delicious. I usually am not a big fan of savory, but the honey with the chicken and waffles was divine! The drip coffee here was the best we had the whole trip, too. By 12:30 our food was coming and the kids had moved on from the story to items we didn’t have the materials for so I logged them out. They also had some tech issues and got kicked out twice so I decided that was enough school.

The steak and eggs was fine according to them, but my dish was big enough for two and was shared amongst the table. I did get some Tabasco packets from the waitress to eat with the chicken. On that not, I really liked our waitress as I mentioned I put it on everything and she brought me packets to take back to my room! I think I still have a few!

We took out time and my artist utilized the colors and crayons- though I had to take them at first because my son tried to color it when he was still logged into school. Gues so can’t be mad at that when I am logging him in at the happiest place on earth....


We just sipped our drinks and ate until it was all gone...

It was time for a nap or back to the park, so we decided we better get going. I would put this meal as my favorite of the whole trip. I loved the atmosphere that was very 1800s and the easy location from MK on the monorail made it a nice detour and break from the park.



We spent a few minutes checking out the decorations and using the restroom before we learned about the chocolate statues. The staff also let us know we missed another chocolate statue in the lounge area behind the stairs. So we had to head there as it was a Jaguar.


Here is the chocolate owls that were just put in. I think she said the day before they removed the Christmas version that had been here.

We headed back to the park, refreshed and fed. It was around 2 ish now and we remembered the sorcerer room so headed there. I’m sure I’m out of the loop, but it was new to me! It was a scavenger hunt that was interactive with these cards that each had powers to stop the evil Queen/ king in your story. We were battling Maleficent, but I saw other parties had Ursula and Hades amongst others- they set it up when they scanned you in and then you could keep cycling though.

Making our way over but I included this photo because you can get a good look of the on sale Christmas masks we picked up (and washed in the handy washer in the room) and the sorcerers’ map.


It was warm now so we were holding jackets and headed toward Liberty Square. We got divided by the parade because I had to duck into the Christmas store as we passed. You can see my kids across the way and my daughter was ecstatic over Merida because she was riding a horse and was able to get some pictures of the horse.

I thought this area was a pretty place to see the parade.




We spent the next two hours chasing down evil and running around. It was hot so I tried to break it up with some rides, but my DD was obsessed and so was my husband. In fact, he got all huffy when we went to ride HM and of course got stuck literally in the front and had to wait for the deep cleaning. While fun it was a bit warm so my mom decided she wanted to hit the shops so she caught up with us in each land, but mostly hit the stores because running around was too much for her. I’ll include one photo here of what the “magical portal” looks like, but you’ll have to go and play on your own.

I’m not doing anymore of those portals!!! Two hours of running around I had it. My son had long ago lost interest and my mom and I decided to let them finish on their own and the three of us got in line for pirates.

While waiting we heard about the capital riots- wow, just wow- and we started texting each other and gone about it. I don’t know if I was entertained - well involved- sothe time passed quickly and before I knew it my husband and daughter were back and able to join us for the ride- I guess they only had two left! Haha.


Yeah we snuck some drinks- it was hot!

This was the only time I had a mask issue inside the park. There were two teens in front of us and the mom did not enforce them wearing their mask. I was vocal about telling my kids to stay away from them and others nearby because I wouldn’t let them go by those kids. They were told at the entrance ( behind the above picture) but in the middle their wasn’t any employees to enforce it so they took advantage. I was happy when they sent the family left and us right when we got inside the ride so I never saw them again. Social responsibility- just wear it if you are going to a place that requires it. Rant over.

Next, we did the jungle cruise and here is a pic of the inside with all the social distancing.


We still had some time to kill so we headed toward everyone’s other favorite Choo choo!

but we got distracted by a classic!


The kids don’t get why I like it but my hubby and I kept repeating the “ blood on the saddle” song for days. The kids promptly took a nap... 30 minute power nap later we made it to TM, but as it was now dark I didn’t take any pictures. Another ride you need to ride in the day and night.

It was now 6:30ish so we headed over to the opposite side of the park because it was time to Be Our Guest!

It was super crowded for covid times inside Be Our Guest- we could barley get in to check in. There was a person in all the available space. .. I don’t know if people were waiting for no shows, but it was crazy! The bathroom had a huge line and it just put a damper on things. We were still excited, but it was all down hill from here.

We had a waiter in training who took my drink order-tea- only to tell me they didn’t have the tea I ordered- and never did- but the trainer never corrected this. Then the trainer moved my teapot, after I had already moved it out of my way to show the new guy were to put it awkwardly in front of me. They brought the dinner out while we were still trying to finish the appetizers and it was just weird. For the price you are paying I accepted better.

The food was good and ok. I have had better and I have had worse. No one thought the grey stuff was delicious. I wasn’t impressed by the deserts.

The character greeting was literally a run by of the Beast... all the photos are blurry because he didn’t stop. The whole thing was just weird. He waved and literally ran away. Then they have the audic to charge $20 for juice in a castle cup- sorry kids the $20 castle cup is not happening.

I want to give them a break with covid, but at around $70 a person, I expect better Disney.

Now that I told you all the bad there was some good, as well. We ate in the ballroom which was just cool. It does look just like the movie. I liked the snow falling view out of the windows, too. The themed rooms were nice and that is the best part.













Now if only Lumiere would come out and sing...


After our nice lunch this was just ho- hum with an expensive price tag. I wouldn’t do it again.

It was well past closing- which was why I had photos that looked empty. We took some photos (mask required to leave the table which is why you see us wearing them in the other rooms) used the restroom a final time and headed out.
While waiting for the others to use the restroom, we happened upon the library- utilized now as a napkin wrapping center by cast members. Not a fun photo... but we did get to hear the Knights,which we had passed earlier, but did not notice they spoke because of all the people and noise. We listened for a few minutes and then headed out. I don’t have one photo of the knights though...

We waved goodbye to MK as this was the last day we would be back here. Sigh.

Sorry I have been vacationing again but here is some more for you!

We had Epcot on the agenda for today which meant we got to sleep in a little as the park didn’t open until 10am.

We got some viewing time on the balcony.


We had one objective as it was broken down most of our last visit.




The verdict was everyone loved it. It was different from the last time I was there over ten years ago. They had the build your own car portion turned off that would have made the experience better, but I understand they don’t want everyone touching it and spreading germs.

The journey to Mars was busy so we decided to head over to the world area near Canada where we could get a coffee- a Starbucks because my husband wanted a large.

it was time for school again, the late start meant they didn’t get a lot of rides in so we got some breakfast in Canada- huge cinnamon rolls- and put the kids to school in the rose garden of England which didn’t have many people. Sorry no pictures as they did school on my phone.

After about 45 minutes the kids couldn’t participate any more, as we didn’t have the materials, so we logged them off and they took a stroll through the maze where they got a social distant visit from Alice. Notice the handler’s face mask and shield.

We headed into Paris next as my husband had read something about how it was so bad it was good the Beauty and the Beast show was in France. We took some pictures and evidently that was too much singling around because we just missed it by two families getting into the show.


so we headed into the store where I found a new French themed shirt And this...



I was able to take a sip and a drink before I got scolded for taking my mask off... a does of reality I had forgotten about when I took my first excited sip. So we had to take them outside to enjoy. This was a tasting flight of champagne.

We almost missed the next show because as we drank the line got longer and longer. We decided to get in line and made it about midway of the planter with social distancing in place.

We made it by the skin of our teeth- the people behind us made it in and that was it. We rushed in, but I had to take a photo of some of the costumes they had in the waiting area- when you could wait in groups. As the show was about to start I didn’t get time to lingerbut I managed to take a photo of the Phantom of the Opera costumes as I am
Obsessed with this musical and have seen it multiple times!


The show was awful, but fun. It was funny to hear everyone sing along while wearing masks- distorts the singing a little...

You exit right by the ice cream and my hubby heard they add your favorite flavor of ice cream to coffee so I had to try it. I made it before the herd exiting the theatre, but with limited seating we had to sit over by the ratatouille ride (which at this point still had a barrier around it) and we only got this seating since I sent my husband to find us a spot.

with few rides to entertain us we decided we didn’t want to hang out here when we could go ride test track again so we hoped the boat to the mainland.

Test track time- about 45 wait and it was a little shorter. When we got out the line wasn’t long for Mission Space so hubby took the kids. My mom wasn’t interested in feeling sick again so we tried the tame Earth version. It was similar and after the ride we met up with my husband and kids and I took them on the Earth version while my mom rested on a bench. He wanted to ride again but I was more interested in one of these-


I got others for the group and we took another mini break while we ate mickeys face and spoiled ourselves with a cold coke - that we brought from the room.

The line for test track was only 30mins so we decided to do that again.

We hadn’t experienced the Nemo attraction so we made our way to the other side. We made a brief stop in some stores and the front attraction -that I forget the name- the one that shows the history of humanity -that despite the quiz upgrade since I had last been, leaves a lot to be desired. Since it is in the Epcot ball, I think it should be a better ride. It was cute, but similar to the one at home, minus the real fish.

We walked through the aquarium and my daughter was disappointed that the dolphins were not there. We left telling her we would check later.

it was starting to get dark so we made our way back toward the World Showcase. As we were walki we saw the movie we never saw so we made a quick detour to watch the shorts. We were greeted with this view on the way out of the theatre.




We didn’t want to walk all the way around again so we jumped back on the boat to where we left off.
We headed into Italy, but we mostly just looked at the shops and enjoyed some drinks.







After a walk through Germany, we decided to ride Frozen, but after being in line for around ten minutes it broke down. We rode it twice the last day so we decided we didn’t want to wait. By this time it was already a few hours before closing so we decided we didn’t need to wait.



My daughter was bugging us to check for the dolphin, so my hubby took her because the rest of us didn’t care... instead we took some photos and did some shopping!

We headed at this point to some test track action- as it was my sons favorite and he wanted to ride it again. This made for ride number 3 and when we got out, we had a few minuted for closing so we’re one of the last few people to jump in line again for ride number 4! ( making it the most ridden ride of our trip).

I didn’t get any photos of or around it and when we excited it was all closed. We headed out tothe busses, but my hubby stopped for coffe and that’s where he discover they close the coffee cart 30 min after closing. We took the below picture and I found him see stated he couldn’t get a caffeine fix for the bus ride home. Yes it is like 10pm now and he is looking for coffee. ...



We ate some leftovers from the be our guest meal, as well as some of the leftovers from the Disney Springs visit and we all had enough to make it a meal. Then somewhere around 11:30pm we all went to bed.

Who scheduled this trip! Why are we doing a park a day 6 days in a row- oh yeah me because the price different for 8 days was like $10 more. I won’t be making that mistake again and don’t you make my mistake either... you would think we would sleep in the next day but nope. It was animal kingdom day and as it closes early and our favorite that wasn’t happening.

I have a cousin who lives nearby and we talked about meeting up but we weren’t able to make it happen- I didn’t push it because Covid vaccines were only out for medical staff at this point and just staring for those 65 and older in Florida. Partially because we were going to meet up we moved about 3 days ago our Studios day with our animal kingdom day, which originally was going to be our last day. Because of this we lost our reservation at SciFi- there was one when we cancelled, but by the time we tried to rebook, it was gone.

Oh well! We stalked the page but never did see another one pop up for lunch- we did see a dinner once though.

When we got back they had removed most of the outdoor Christmas decorations and in the morning the Christmas tree was gone from Kidani Lobby for those monitoring this was January 8.




It was still early - like 7:10am, when we joined the cue for the bus. Not tool long, it always had a shorter line and we made the first bus. We were in the park by 7:30am because it was so close and riding Pandora by 7:40am, though mom sat this ride out. said the bike style seat hurt her back. She was happy to do it once but not again!



It was so pretty we had to take a picture. Not a huge fan of the movie, but we love the ride and land! Down the River next and by the time we were out it was 8am an the lines for both rides were over an hour. Nope not happening! So we headed out of there.


We headed for the tree of Life, but then decided to head into Africa instead.



I think we were going to ride the Safari, but then I saw an ad on the outside of the Store for: Lion King scavenger hunt. What? Remember my daughter is obsessed so the moment the words excited my mouth we had to go inside and see what it was about. About $20 later we were the proud owners of two maps. They gave clues of where to find the characters from the movie. They are hard at work here in the store where we purchased it from. Spoiler- Rafiki is on the top shelf.



The kids wanted to just keep looking for the characters, but we took them over to the Safari first to see if we could see more animal action early in the morning. Up next - more Safari photos!
