January 2015....Let the planning begin!

Hi and welcome! Have you gone at that time before?

Thanks! Yes, we have for several years now. Love it. The weather is always dicey....2012 was gorgeous, 2013 was chilly and rainy...but we like the lower crowds. And coming from the Upper Midwest, most everywhere is warmer that time of year!

Now what you meen about everywear beeing warmer, got any tips for us who havent taken on the world at that time of year yet?

We went in March and would start in jeans with tshirts and a sweatshirt. Usually ditched the sweatshirt later in the day when it warmed up. So layers work well! Hoping it will be a little cooler in January--I love cold weather!

In January, Florida can have a variety of temperatures. In my experience, it can be anywhere from 10C to 21C degrees (50-70F)....sometimes warmer, sometimes colder. Last year, it was cold and rainy for several days during our stay, but in other years it's been gorgeous. I just pack for anything and everything.

We just got back from a week WDW, and DH and I are already planning our next trip! We had a great time, but coming from Minnesota, May was hotter than we were prepared for, and our 2 kids were practically melting! We went in January in 2013 and loved the weather and the low crowds, so we are planning for January in 2015. In 2013, we went in between the marathon and MLK day. There were quite a few groups from Brazil ( spring break?), and thought they were very nice and fun. They would often entertain my then 4 yr old DD, while waiting in line. It was a great time to go!

We have a very low tolerance for heat too. We went in mid-April last year, and it was too warm. November was ok, but January has been our favorite.

Hmm.. maybe I shouldn't plan two waterpark days lol. I mean we are hearty New England stock but my younger two probably won't want to freeze.... My older two wanted to play in the sprinkler as soon as the temp hit mid 60s so they would be fine.

bbak - this is a cut back trip for us too, we are returning in fall 2015. We have never had vacations that close together so we are trying to squeeze this one in budget wise ;) There are so many things that have become must do's that we are not doing. I am really looking forward to it though, and all the fun things we forget to do in our action packed vaca's.

Has anyone been in January and September? Our last trip was in September and the crowds were nonexistent. The longest we waited to do anything was about thirty minutes and that was to meet characters. I wondered if the parks at the end of January would really be that empty?

Us too! We always do the BBB and we love the Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert party and we won't be doing either in January. Hoping to do them in October though!

Not doing the DDP will be the biggest adjustment - I have a list going of my October ADR goals. That is why I think we will do HDDR though - might as well pay OOP now instead of burn two credits. When in October are you going? We are planning on the week ending in Halloween.

Have you checked out See Ya Reel Soon's dining plan calculator? It's quite a handy tool that they spent some time creating! We had FD last time and I used it to determine whether or not it was worth it to purchase. Turns out OOP will be cheaper for us :)

I have seen that before, it is great. I know we will be eating cheaper this time because we are only eating a couple Disney meals.

Our Oct trip we will get it either way because I love that freedom to get whatever I want. Oh and dessert ;)

Haha! My DH isn't going this time do it's just me and my will be 6 year old to pay for (going with family) if he and I got our own meals every time is over pay on the plan by more than $200! And I figure there will be times we share a meal/snack so that's even more money I'd technically be over paying!

Yes we have always done the dining plan too. Not sure if we will do it in January, hoping for the S/P/D deal!
October 24-31. Our oldest will turn 10 on October 29th and I'm hoping there will be a MNSSHP that night!

Am thinking I'll wear my wool coat atleast and wondering about taking the oppertunity to have it drycleaned while there. The prices is cheaper than at home and can't think it should be that unusuall a thing that they don't know what to do.

Am not a person who gets cold easily so am thinking capris right now, hearing your husband was comfy in shorts made me happy. I'm thinking it's going to be great no matter what.

Smart Lady to get your coat cleaned here! As we drive around we see tons of dry clean places close to the parks, you should have no problem finding one.

I always bring long pants but an running around in capris becuase once you hit 10 or 11am it's warm enough to shed any jacket you may have on. It was perfect 65 to 70 degrees with a slight breeze when were there last time :)

We went in May 2009 and WOW, it's like 300 degrees at WDW, jungle hot.
But we bot to see Star Wars Weekends so it was all good.
We had no bad experiences with the Brazilian tour goups either, they were always heading the opposite way we were. It's my favorite time to go.

Oh sharing with a 6 year old is definitely possible and a great way to save. My 7 year old always wants what I order anyway ;)
