January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

Monny2AE - We will be at the CBR at the same time: 23rd thru the 30th! This will be my first time staying there. I know what you mean about budgeting. My husband's job depends on the oil field so last year was good to us and he got several bonuses and we used one of them to pay for the Disney trip. This year, well, it hasn't been so nice to us. No bonuses so far and at this point we are just hoping that he will get one at Christmas. I know everyone wanted to see the price of gas go down but for us, it's better when its high.

Disneymommy3 - I was kinda thinking the same thing that in January with the crowds being less, dining at TS restaurants wouldn't take too much time away from park time. Also, this trip we won't have the grandparents to help watch the boys so that means we won't be riding as many of the bigger rides and I think that will give us more "free" time to spend on dining. Another big reason to try the dining plan this year is that my youngest will still be 2 so he can eat off our plates and we won't be charged. I can try it out this year to see if we like it rather than next year when I will have to pay for him.

Booked our trip. It was much more expensive than I would like it to be, but the CM assured me that some sort of code would be coming out. The only glitch is that January 2nd is considered a holiday rate this year, so we've got to figure out just how much we are willing to pay for a 'room only' night. Either that or adjust our dates.

Welcome to all the new Snowbirds!

I think I have everyone's changes and additions!

Hooray!!!! I can't talk dh into any other resort  We'll definitely have to meet up!

I hope you figure it out Soleil. Is it holiday rate because of being so close to New Year's?
I was kind of surprised that our Friday and Saturday night stays were more money too. It's reassuring that the CM told you that something would come out. I'm hanging onto that to keep my Disney dreams alive!

Ok Snowbirds . . . Since I'm not planning a trip this coming January because of baby, I'm starting to look ahead to the future.

I've only been to WDW in January twice, so I need to get some input from all of you for my planning purposes. I'm trying to decide if we should go in Jan. 2011 or wait until November, 2011. Here is where you come in . . . my DS is dying to ride Splash Mountain. It was closed during our visit this year, as it historically is. I was wondering if you could tell me if there were times during your January trip when Splash Mountain was open. If I can nail a time in Jan. when Splash is operational, I will start planning for then. Otherwise, we will be waiting until November. That is such a LONG time away.

This is the beauty of being stuck on bed rest for 6 months of your pregnancy . . . lots of time to fantisize and plan Disney trips!

Hey Mindy!! Are you still reading? Did any of those books work for you? How are you feeling? We were there from the 24th -Feb 1 last year and my crew rode it on the latter part of our trip...like that thur or Fri.. I don't remember it being closed at all that week...but a couple of days were chilly, so I didn't want them riding it. And yes, they got wet both times that day--even when the cm said that the seats they were in would stay pretty dry.SURE!!!!

Hey Shawna! You have no idea how many books I have here waiting for me. I have bags upon bags of books to go through yet. I'm feeling well, for the most part. I have some issues with contractions and some really blue moments but, overall, I'm well. I'm using the Dis and my thoughts of a future trip to keep my spirits up. 24 weeks tomorrow! Only 15 more weeks of bed rest before my c-section.

So, late January is a good time to catch Splash. We were there from the 6-13th and it was closed the entire time.

Awww Mindy hang in there! You could read some Disney themes books. I've been taking book suggestions from my 13 year old nephew.:lmao: I just finished reading all 3 books in the Peter and the Starcatcher series by Pearson and Barry. I know they're for young adults but they were fun reads! Next I'm reading Kingdom Keepers also by Pearson. I know I'm a dork. :rolleyes1

Splash Mountain was open while we were there the last week of January. Although the one day it broke down for over a half hour while my sister and her family were on it. They ended up having to walk off it after 45_ minutes.:confused3

Alright I'm in full planning mode now that the rates are out. I still wish I knew exactly what $$$ I may be parting with but those darn codes are still months away.:headache:

I'm trying to do some math...and I notice when I price packages on Disney com that the QSDDP is more for 2010!!! I don't know if it's worth it now. For adults we pretty much break even but we do save on DS. DD doesn't count since she's under 3. She's OOP no matter what but she eats so little that she usually shares anyway. Did I mention that I hate math.:sad2:

So, I almost put up a pity-party post last week. I think DH had a bad day and he said, we're probably not going. Fast forward to Saturday where we went to a party with good wine. When we went out to eat afterward, I said, so what do you think and he said he wants to go.

I tried CR on the website, but the first offer was MK view Tower. I will assume they will open up more garden rooms. I might call, but I don't feel like locking in a deposit quite yet, especially if I don't think we might stay there. Also, there might be a convention, in which case we don't want to stay there.

The Swan for teachers is looking more promsing. We tend to stay at the Dolphin, but we might swing the extra $20 for the Swan. Still beats a Deluxe. But DU doesn't have 2010 quotes available yet. Crossing fingers I can get $109-119 for my weekend.

We won't do the dining plan unless it's too good a deal. It's too much food--and we do like to eat. Plus we have to pay for DD, who will just have turned 3, so I can't imagine it won't be too much for her either.

I'm struggling with Princess breakfast. I was going to not do CRT....wait until she gets more out of it.....will remember it....... Well, she still remembers MNSSHP and wearing her Minnie Costume, so she'll remember.

So it's CRT or Akershus. Maybe Playhouse Disney breakfast at DHS. We're only there 3 full days. See--TS for breakfast and we will TS for dinner so DP still doesn't work for us.

Dinner--

Almost anything at Epcot: Coral Reef, maybe Mexican this time (never been), Seasons (food court), Rose & Crown (too heavy in summer), Biergarten (also too heavy in summer), Tutto Italia (name?), I'm a little torn.

Lunches will be CS wherever we are at lunchtime. If we do stay at CR, we may have to do Chef Mickey's as well.

So, I'm no help.

Well, I never did receive an updated email so I just put my ressie in the web site and my rates were adjusted automatically. It went from $1320 to $589! Most likely I will call tomorrow to add tix/dining plan and watch the total go back up again :rotfl:

Maybe you could just put DH and yourself on the package w/ QSDP. Then you could buy tickets seperately for your son and pay OOP for his meals.

My mom & sis are thinking about coming and they will be in our room, but purchasing their own tickets and meals.

I VOTE FOR THE AKERSHUS BREAKFAST!! I went last year and it was FANTASTIC!!!

We're newbies (only one WDW trip to date), but we'll be there January 15-22 while my husband attends a big conference. We'll be staying at the Nick Hotel. Between that and all the Disney parks, DD (4) and DS (2) will be so overwhelmed by their favorite characters it will probably leave them catatonic!

Hi everyone, we just got back yesterday. The trip went really well, the drive down and back was excellent and the kids handled it great. (We'll stick with flying though!)

The parks were pretty busy but not over the top "nuts". A few of the rides (Toy Story, Soarin', Test Track, Everest etc.) had long waits, but nothing you couldn't get around with the use of a FastPass. The weather was HOT! Mid 90's to upper 90's the whole time with the good ol' 4:00 thunderstorm/shower everyday but one.

It was very cool to hear all the CM’s say "Happy Anniversary" at every turn. The heat certainly drained what little energy I had much quicker than I hoped, but Hubby would just slow things down and take it easy when I needed it.

So all and all it was a very nice and fun trip. It was super to be there without a ton of re-habs and closings but I sure would take the January weather any day of the week, I'll stick to being a Snow Bird!!:thumbsup2

Welcome back Joni!!!! I'm glad you had such a great Anniversary trip! I'd love to hear more about it.

I wish I could put DS on the QSDDP and pay OOP for us since we really save more on him than us. He's under $10 and gets 2 meals and 2 snacks for that...no way can I top that OOP! I think I'll just wait and see what the exact QSDDP rates are, whenever Disney FINALLY decides to release them.:rolleyes1 Then I'll decide I guess. I'm just tired of waiting.

Oh and Congrats on being within the 4 Month Mark!!!
