January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

Just found this thread and am getting more and more excited about our trip! We will be staying at POP for the first time 1-21 to 1-28. I've stayed at other resorts with DH but this is DD's first trip.

There's a bunch of Snow Birds staying at POP. We'll be at POP 1/21-1/28 as well (first time staying there too). We remember our first trip with the kids two years ago, there is nothing like it in the world. Enjoy!!!:thumbsup2

Good morning all! It snowed a little bit overnight so now we have a nice layer of ice under the snow. Wonderful. I can't wait to get away! Last night I finally wrote up a packing list. It feels so good to get all that information out of my head! I had downloaded an ultimate packing list from somewhere and I kept checking my list against that one. I don't need nearly all of the things on the ultimate list, but it had some stuff on there that I hadn't thought of. I also started making a grocery list of stuff to buy once we're all checked into our timeshare. I plan on packing a couple of food items (like peanut butter) but we'll need to buy milk and stuff like that. I'm so excited!!!!!

Have to go to Home Depot to get my Mickey head and will display it proudly.
Hopefully will run into some of you!
Safe trips to all!

:welcome: to the Snowbirds! How exciting for your DD's 1st trip. Our DD's first trip was in 2006 when she was 3. She talks about it all the time! I cannot WAIT to surprise her (in 16 days!).

Hi Snowbirds!

We just got back yesterday!

We had an amazing time. For Disney newbies I think we did okay and made the most of our short time there.

The weather was perfect while we were there. The crowds were a bit more than I expected but after talking to my sister who went over spring break I'm thinking maybe they weren't as bad as I thought at the time.

Here's our trip blog if anyone is interested. I haven't written the last day yet. We went to the Magic Kingdom for a breakfast at the Crystal Palace. It was wonderful! Then we went on Buzz Lightyear because the girls hadn't gone on it and I thought they'd enjoy it. We did a couple of bonus rides and then headed out and got sidetracked by a spontaneous street performance by the opening ceremony dancers.

I think the thing I loved about Disney the most was Main Street and how special it felt with the castle looming and the way the cast members tried to make every family feel important and special.

We can't wait to go back! We certainly left enough undone that we'd feel like everything was new and different again.

This board and the guide book were so vital to us having a good time. We had so much fun at the character dinners and I didn't feel like we had to meet all the characters in the park and stand in lines if we didn't want to. There were so many people who were turned away from restaurants because they didn't have reservations. Also, just knowing about the different rides and attractions, and how fast pass worked was great. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't perfect, and we were on a steep learning curve, but I think it still made a huge difference.

Anyways, here's the blog:

I was just thinking that some of our Snowbirds should be coming back shortly. Thanks for telling us about your trip. Sounds wonderful! :goodvibes We are headed for our 4th trip and I'm sure there are still things that we haven't done or seen. That just makes it more special! I will check out your blog later. Gotta run for now.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time.... no matter how many times we have been there we always find something new and exciting.... you never get tired on walking onto Main St and seeing the castle.. even after 25 trips that still gives me goosebumps!!!

Hi Everyone - just had to share. Got this done over at the DISigns board. I'm going to put this on the back of everyone's character sweatshirts and maybe a shirt or two. It's awesome and really feels like us!

Got this done on the DIS board for us. I'm putting it on the back of our character sweatshirts, and maybe a T-shirt too. I think it's awesome!!! Now I have to buy the iron-on stuff and make them. AAACK.

It's post 43. Brought tears to my eyes - it's so adorable and really feels like our family.

:welcome: to the Snowbirds!! Wow I can't believe we are still getting new Snowbirds, that's great! :cool1: Hope you both have great trips!

We got a couple inches of snow last night. As DH slid us to work this morning, I kept mentally chanting "36 hours until we leave. 36 hours until we leave."

You sound just like me! I absolutely refuse to drive in that stuff! We opened the garage door this morning and saw the layer of snow on top of the ice we received yesterday and knew the drive would be fun!! Thankfully, the DOT had the roads in pretty good shape.

Laumau - So glad you had a good time. I need to finish reading your blog - I had started it and then lost track of it!

Love the day by day report!! Keep it coming!

Gosh, everyday at work is just PAINFUL!! I just keep telling everyone at work, "you know I'm leaving for Florida in 16 days?" They keep calling me bad names, I just don't understand it! :confused3 Only 10 1/2 work days left. (We're off for MLK so that will be my major packing day)...Like I won't already be completely packed and have the car loaded up four days early...:rotfl2:
I have been DISing and obsessing and talking so much at work I think my office-mates are starting to ignore me! And hardly anyone else is going anywhere warm this winter. I almost feel bad! ;)

Safe trips to all!
:welcome: I'm sure you will have an awesome time (hard not to). If I see any LGMHs I will approach!!

WELCOME WELCOME!!!! I leave shortly right after you do...I'm 7 days away!!!! I will be itching to get out of school that day WOOT!!!!!

So as the temperature dips to the single digits (4!) :cold:
and the wind blows so forcefully that the snow we got last night begins to drift over the places I already shoveled...

I just keep saying 3 days and hoping mother nature cuts me a break!

Fellow New Yorkers! We're staying at POP as well. We'll be at the Crystal Palace on the 22nd too! Upstate New Yorkers think alike. Travel safe.;)

This morning, we slogged to work in a few inches of snow on untreated roads. (This is, apparently, standard up north but down here, none of us can drive on it) Every coworker I saw this morning was greeted with "And I leave in 26 hours."

(Of course, snow now has accumulations for tomorrow, but "only" 1-3" AND I'm paying someone else to drive us, thank you!)

Alright, with the understanding that I'm a northerner.... The forecast on accuweather.com and weather underground are a bit cooler than what Mama Snowbird has been giving us. At night, it'll be mostly 40s and 50s and some 30s. The marathon starts at 5:50 and I'll be out there around 3am with my dearest hubby...

do you think I need my winter coat or do you think layers (like LL Bean fleece, windbreaker, maybe sweater?) will be enough? (This is part of why I haven't packed - 70s are short sleeve shirts and 60s are long sleeve shirts!) I'm going to bring my hat and gloves anyway... I do find a hat helps me stay warm, regardless of what coat I wear!!
