January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

Hello fellow Snowbirds! I've been keeping up as a lurker and can't believe it's January already! Three more days, 29 mins. and 34 seconds to Disney! Hope everyone has a safe and healthy trip! Peanut 1...would you mind helping us pack by giving us a weather forecast for the next 7-10 days? Thanks very much. :thumbsup2

I think that's an old one. It had Coral Reef listed as 2TS and it still had Donalds Breakfastasaurus. At least I hope for some of you its old since Coral Reef shouldn't be two anymore!!

humm...you are right. I got it from the Disney web-site? :confused3 I don't think Coral Reef is 2 anymore either :confused3 Sorry I wasn't very much help :flower3:

Good morning Snowbirds.... another day of waiting for our Disney trip... we do have the suitcases up from the basement and they are airing out.....

I feel bad for those Snowbirds whose trips are ending.... but that means mine is getting closer... I know... very selfish.... but I am so excited.... even after as many trips as we have taken I still get excited....

Today I have to do some real estate work... as well as tomorrow.... it will take up my whole day tomorrow... also today I think DD and I are going to drive to her college and try and get her books for next semester.... if we get there before the semester starts good chance we can get some used books and save some $$$$... last semesters books were over $500 and when she sold them back (not all... but most of them) she got a whopping $55....

Also want to finish some printing of menus.... so much to do....so little time...

My DD LOVES buying used textbooks for college whenever she can. The prices on some of these books are ridiculous! She ordered most of her books for this semester from Half.com and was able to save almost $200.00 off the total price by buying used. The first one came yesterday - a paperback Theater book that cost $76.00 USED!! Hopefully, all of them will arrive by next week so we can ship them to school, as she is not coming back home from Disney, but flying directly to school. She didn't want to take the chance of them getting "lost" in the school mailroom until the end of the month. She also sells them back whenever she can - usually right after the final is done in that class - LOL!

............AND in exactly two weeks from right now - we will be on our flight to Disney!!!:cheer2:

WOW.... what a savings.... the professors where DD goes to school don't advertise the books on their websites.... what they do is give it to the college book store and to one store in town that sells books.... such a racket....the only good thing about that is... last semester the book store had ordered the wrong edition and everyone that bought it was able to return it for full credit....

So, I decided today I need a Disney fix. I'm going Jan 25-30 and need to decide between CSR and POFQ. I would never have dreamed to attemp it but even with all the discounts, availability is wide open. Bad for Disney, good for me.

Just found this thread and am getting more and more excited about our trip! We will be staying at POP for the first time 1-21 to 1-28. I've stayed at other resorts with DH but this is DD's first trip. And we are celebrating DH's Birthday while we are there! Can't wait!!!!
Have to go to Home Depot to get my Mickey head and will display it proudly.
Hopefully will run into some of you!
Safe trips to all!

:welcome: to the Snowbirds!! Congrats on your trips!

Lovepoohbear - How exciting for your DD's first trip!! :cool1:

Good morning Snowbirds! :goodvibes

What a cold yucky snowy day here. The rain has finally turned into snow. And it is cold and windy. :sad2: YUCK

Oh how I can't wait to be somewhere warm and sunny ~ in just 12 DAYS!!!

 :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:

Hi all!! So continuing with my trip.

Today was MGM day....actually Hollywood studios day;)

We arrived at rope drop:thumbsup2 headed straight to Toy Story Mania (along with the rest of the crowd). Geez...the fast pass line was longer than the actual line. So, hubby got in line for fast pass while girls and I got in regular line. The wait time said 30 minutes already. We actually waited about 20 and then rode the ride later with the fast pass. Did you guys know that you don't have to actually come back to the ride during your fast pass time? You can come later if you want. We had a time of 11-12 but didn't use it til after 2pm. This has to be my new favorite ride. A must do:thumbsup2

The weather was a bit strange today. Very overcast and windy. It rained for a short period but wasn't too bad. We were prepared of course with ponchos and umbrella.

We did all of the stuff for the kids today..alas no roller coaster or TOT...we did an adult trip in October so I did all of that then. I am really excited to see all of the American Idol stuff but it doesn't open til Feb 14th..oh well. I guess next time.

We saw the HSM parade, Little Mermaid, Playhouse Disney, Star Tours, Muppets, TSM x2 and took pictures with Buzz and Woody (Abby's favorites). Ate lunch at Pizza Planet ( something we always do) and I think we were out of there by 5pm

We had dinner at Boma. The food was good but I don't think we'll return any time soon. It was so loud and chaotic in there. Every table was filled, the buffet lines were a little long and it just wasn't as nice as the last time we went. Oh well.

Tomorrow we are headed to Animal Kingdom (my hubby's favorite). We are also checking out of our hotel and tomorrow night we are headed to Hilton head for 2 days before returning home in just enough time to watch the Eagles/Giants game.I can't believe I am leaving Disney tomorrow..it just doesn't seem real.:sad2:

Well...that's it for now guys. The crowds do seem less each day so I think you will all be in great shape.

I am off to do some packing....the worst part of the trip. Sweet dreams of Mickey everyone.:cloud9:

Thanks for checking in again! :goodvibes I love DHS!! Can't wait to try TSM, we missed the opening by about 1 week in May.

Have a great time at AK and on the rest of your trip! :cool1:

Well, my Peeps...now it's time to say goodbye!:cool1:

We are at my sister's house, just outside of Allentown, the kids are in their Mickey t-shirts and in bed. We leave at 4am from the house for our 6am bus. The kids are psychotically excited...and so am I!

I'm taking my computer, but I don't know if I'll get online at all...just know that I'm sending a shout out!

Catch you on the other side of this magical vacation!:goodvibes

Bye Carrie  Have a safe and magical trip!

Bye Carrie!! I know you are gonna have a blast!!!!

Good Morning Snowbirds!!! I have had major computer issues these last few days. DH stayed up LATE last night and did the complete restore on it. YIKES!!! Not sure yet what's here and what's lost:scared1: So, since, like Monday, is there anything I HAVE to know? I don't have any time to go back and read today. The kids couldn't do their math with the comp being fried, so now they have to double up. Which means, I will get no time here once they start!! HA!

I know this has probably been talked about already, but I just can't believe my vacation is so close now. All the planning, DISing, worrying, booking, rebooking, unbooking, waiting for codes...its just all been such a crazy ride and its almost over. I know I should be excited because its almost time to go, but I can't help but think...." what do I do when I get home?" Does anyone else feel this way? I'm so happy for everyone who is down there and who is going in the near future. It's been a great ride and I'm so glad you guys kept this thread going for us January Snowbirds. Even my boyfriend makes me check on here and see if there's anything new going on. He even makes me sign in so he can look at my ticker everyday to see how many days are left. A great big thanks to everyone who posted here, I got so many planning ideas and it really helped build the excitement, even though I didn't actually post to this thread, you can be sure that I've been reading everday! So, a great big thanks and good luck to everyone on this thread!!! Have a magical time everyone!!! :cool1:

Yeah, a month getting back from the most AMAZING trip to Alaska, I had DH convinced we needed to go to Disney and started planning THAT trip! Once we get back from Disney, well...

...it depends if he qualified for the Boston marathon. If yes, then a week with my family and then fly back in time to go to a wedding in KY.
...if no, then he wants to run the marathon in Traverse City.
...either way, our summer vacation will be low-key in Traverse City.
...and he wants to try to get into the lottery for the Marine Corps marathon in DC. I love DC!

But I won't know until Sunday at 10am! ;)

Will this be your first time at POR? We are considering it or the Swan for the next trip. As much as we love CBR, we like to try new things. Can you let me know how you liked it after your trip? :goodvibes

I don't know if I come through the shuffle at all, but I really like POR. We stayed there in 2007 and my DH and I are staying there again this weekend. However, we don't have children so I'm sure it affects our view of things! I loved the boat to DTD. I loved being able to walk to POFQ (for their food court, to visit their pools!). I never had trouble with the buses and I found it a really QUIET resort. And when we were there? The cheerleading competition was going on and the overflow was in POR!

Safe trips to all those leaving this weekend for the marathon! :cool1: If you're a runner then good luck!!

Tomorrow I begin my massive house cleaning :wizard:

My DH is beside himself with anticipation!! Tonight, I start packing. :rolleyes1

So I really haven't started packing yet. Luckily, by tomorrow, I mean "my flight is at 9:28pm" so I have some time yet. I've pulled out our laundry basket and tossed in socks and underwear... bathing suit and my crocs. My DH has tossed in his running clothing. That's as far as we've gotten.

We're still debating (with each other) what to bring. The temps look to be in the 60s and sunny, which will be beautiful... but long sleeve shirt/jeans weather. He wants to take only short-sleeve shirts and one sweater and one long sleeve shirt. I think we're waiting to get the most up-to-date forecast possible before we pack (and then we'll pack some of everything anyway).

We got a couple inches of snow last night. As DH slid us to work this morning, I kept mentally chanting "36 hours until we leave. 36 hours until we leave."

I hope I don't forget my travel purse. Or pj's. My travel kit is always packed and ready to go, so I don't have to worry about that... but I will need to gather my prescription meds tomorrow!!

Eek!!

Thanks for the info! We stayed at POFQ and thought it was nice. Just thought it was very small, therefore the food court and the pool were small. I guess we prefer the larger more spread out resorts. I regret that we didn't take the time to check out POR when we were so close. We probably won't stay at another WDW resort without checking it out for ourselves first after our stay in May (at another resort). So we plan to check out the Swan when we are at the Boardwalk. Just not sure how getting to POR is going to fit into the schedule. Hopefully we can find a way. I'd like to see the pool and check out the food court - I have heard the food court is excellent!

Good morning snowbirds. I got the DF off to work with a decent breakfast in him. But now I realize it's not even 8am and I'm wide awake. So much for catching a few more hours. Today is house cleaning and maybe some reading. I'm holding out till tomorrow to do laundry because it's such an awful chore! Haha... I'll be in and out but to those I miss, have a great day!

I never minded the walking around POR (and we'd walk to and from POFQ and walk and walk and walk and did I mention I have arthritis in one knee and runner's knee in the other and I kept walking? ;)). I really just liked it - it was comfortable and pretty without being loud, either visually or sound-wise!

Last time, we didn't eat at the food court - just Boatwright's and we went for breakfast. I thought the food was great (some kind of flavored pancakes). We're going back this time for dinner Saturday night at the food court (for the make your own pasta, pre-DH's marathon) and Boatwright's on Sunday for dinner, so I can certainly tell you how THOSE add up!

Love the day by day report!! Keep it coming!

Gosh, everyday at work is just PAINFUL!! I just keep telling everyone at work, "you know I'm leaving for Florida in 16 days?" They keep calling me bad names, I just don't understand it! :confused3 Only 10 1/2 work days left. (We're off for MLK so that will be my major packing day)...Like I won't already be completely packed and have the car loaded up four days early...:rotfl2:
I keep getting the "don't remind me" from my friends who are a wee bit ticked that I'm heading to see the mouse in a couple weeks. I have to admit that Id probable be the same way if I were in their shoes.

Hope you get everything thrown together soon! I'd be in a panic but I am well known for being packed a month in advance. If we weren't taking a rental, I'd have my stuff in the car already!
