Come on up!! I keep joking that I'm going to have to actually try to make this stuff myself, since I just go to my mom's for the yummies. I suppose that's true - someday! Actually, there should be a lot of Armenians near you. Houston has quite a population. I think it was Sarbah though, not Sharadoc.

Yep, although I've been told I'm a pretty good cook, too. We do mostly Polish and Italian at our house. We have a traditional Christmas Eve Wigilia meal - no meat, just fish (usually whiting), plain potatoes, vegetables, prunes (I have no idea why), special sauerkraut with mushroom, and a cabbage and noodle dish. Some folks do a much more "grand" meal, but my family came from peasant farmers in Poland, so ours is very simple.

We break a blessed wafer called Oplatki with each other. You take a piece of each other's wafer, and then wish each other Merry Christmas and the best for the New Year.

The point of the evening is that we're waiting for Jesus to be born, so it's a solemn evening, rather than a party. It would culminate with going to midnight Mass, although with kids, that tradition stopped early in our family

As we've all gotten older, the "old" traditions have gotten watered down, especially as the older generation has passed on. I'm really set on keeping as many of the old ethnic traditions that I can. My kids get are a combo of: Polish, Italian, German, Irish, French, English and Moravian. I try to do something from each, but it's getting complicated!

I'd love to hear about all of your Christmas, Chanukah or other traditions, especially the things that are passed down through generations.

Goodness gracious! I got 12 tickets already this morning... I guess it's too cold for people to walk to class. However, it makes it so I don't have to stay out very long to look like I'm working hard:rolleyes1 , so I'm good with it.

I have a feeling that the next few weeks are going to be crazy, but I'm sure I'll survive.

Given comments I've read about people not getting into the "Finding Nemo" show at AK, even in January, I went ahead and booked Tusker House during the designated window to get the reserved tickets. Got a 1:10 reservation with no problems. (Maybe it means crowds won't be too bad?) Of course, that night we're also eating at Jiko's at 8:45, so it's going to be one of those "roll me on home" nights! :rotfl2:

Shelly, I'm so sorry but it means an addition to my ADRs:
1/7: Tusker House, 1:10.

Thanks!

Goodness... I would do that, except we're already doing Tusker House breakfast one morning. We have 2 AK days planned though, so I'm pretty sure we'll be able to fit in Finding Nemo if we want to.

Good Morning Snowbirds!!

I have have serious WDW fever this morning!! I think I'm going to bust out the luggage and start packing this weekend.

I'm having a stroller issue. We are flying and DH doesn't want to bother with a stroller. My concern is that DS, although he is 4, is very slow and tires easily. He is also on the small side. I think it would be better to be safe and have it than sorry and have to rent an uncomfortable, expensive stroller.

Do strollers count toward your checked bags?

This is what I got from the Delta site - it depends on which airline you're flying with though...

Strollers & Child Restraint Seats

Strollers and child restraint seats will be checked for free and are not counted as part of the standard baggage allowance.

Strollers and child restraint seats may be checked at curbside, the ticket counter, or at the gate.

If you want to use a child restraint seat or stroller to transport your child through the airport, that's fine. Strollers need to be checked at the gate by a Delta agent. Child restraint seats may be checked, or in certain cases, they may be brought on board:

I say bring it, or even if you go out and purchase a light umbrella stroller, then it won't be much of a hassle, and you would have something for him if he needs it.

Hi Snowbirds.
I forgot to say I love the charlie brown tree pic!
Since we have not had one latley!

Question of the day?
What is you favorite place to vacation BESIDES WDW?

Mine is the Beach. Favorites are Ocean City New Jersey, Ocean City Maryland, V.A Beach, and I have been here once but l love it...
Kiawah Island South Carolina.
Yes, I am trying to think warm today. :sunny: So cold here today.
I am hoping to get to a blue water beach this spring for DH's 40th birthday. I keep thinking I am spending all this money on WDW again. I should have booked a crusie! But I have wanted to see christmas at WDW for a long time. So it really will be a dream come true!:cloud9:

Somehow I must missed it, but Becca I didn't know you worked for Parking Services LOL I was very afraid of you guys back in the day LOL!!! Not that I ever had to worry I had 6:45am classes and the parking lot was never full..EVER!! So I had my pick of spots and once I had a spot I stayed there until it was time to leave, parking at KSU is hazard to ones health!!

Be safe out there Becca and stay warm!!!

I'll be sending out NO MORE Jingles, as most people had problems getting mine to work! :santa:

There was nothing wrong with what you sent out Trixie!! What happened was the program that takes a web address and makes it a hyperlink on this board shorten the addy so we only saw part of it. That is why when I'm sending it I'm putting the addy in brackets so the program won't automatically make it an link and shorten the addy!

Haha! I think the people who are afraid of us are the ones who don't have to be, because they never park wrong. It is hazardous to your health. Lucky for me, I live close enough to campus that I don't have to deal with the parking situation (I suppose I'm a hypocrite in that way) I don't like scheduling my classes too early in the morning, so if I had to park on campus I would never have anywhere to park.

Thanks so much for the information, Becca! We are flying on Delta, so that makes the decision easy for me. We can take the darn thing and if we don't need it, fine but if we do, it will be there!

Good morning Snowbirds! :cool1: :cool1:

Sounds like most everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and successful shopping! :thumbsup2 I spent Thanksgiving evening reading through all the sale fliers and making a table of GPSs (DH's Christmas request) on sale. I picked out the one I wanted to get...of course it was at a store that opened at 4am! :scared1: So I did a quick check online and found it somewhere for the same price, with free shipping and no tax! So I bought it online and slept in (as much as possible with a baby!) on Friday. :thumbsup2 Now DD and I have caught colds  so we are taking it easy.

Hey Sharadoc, we have Wigilia with Oplatki too! Have you ever tried making pierogies? Here is a strange question...how do you pronounce Wigilia? I always remember my mom saying something like vee-LEE-ah, but my aunt says vig-EEL-yah. But then again, my aunt (mom's brother's wife) is of Irish descent so how would she know? Both my mom and my Babci are dead so I can't ask them...which prompts me to make an unsolicited suggestion (sorry!) to those who haven't yet learned how to make their traditional dishes, DO IT! You never know when you will become the one responsible for carrying on the family traditions. :santa:

St. Nicholas comes to our house as well. He brings everyone a small gift, perhaps something that can be used during the season, like a CD of Christmas music (DS10 is enthralled with Trans Siberian Orchestra :confused3 ) I always thought that was a German custom, although we aren't German.

I am enjoying everyone's holiday avatars and signatures. Snykymom, love that latke-flipping smilie! I also like hearing about everyone's holiday traditions...keep 'em coming! :goodvibes

Goodmorning everyone! I am offically a Snow-lady sitting here at my desk. It is in the 30's here and my desk is right next to a door (which gets opened every 5 minutes.)

QOTD:
I really love the Bahamas. I like to cruise, but DH doesn't. I would love to visit Bermuda one day because it's where my dad is from.

Congrats to you!!!!!

I'm a little bummed. I read on another thread that the Coral Reef divers and personalized menus are no more for 2009. I hope it's not true but it sounds like it. I was so looking forward to surprising dh for his birthday. :sad2:

I emailed the restaurant a few weeks ago and was told to email 30 days out. I specifically stated I was going in 2009. You would think if they were stopping it for 2009, they'd tell me then rather than have me email again! So at 30 day mark I will be emailing! :goodvibes

We past our 45 day mark, we paid in full a few days prior, received the zero balance email, and in 24 hours (post exam) I will be in full Disney Planning mode.

I got my bouncing mickey to work- thank you for your help in getting that to work.
It is actually much easier than the PM's :goodvibes

I am at home again today, and falling asleep in front of my text book, maybe it means I am oversaturated with information :confused3 I am also feeling kinda sickly  , upset stomach- may be nerves:sick:+ :scared1: =stress

Really what I would rather be doing is shopping!

QOTD: I like going north to our "summer home" we purchased a park model trailer last summer. It is about a 3 hour drive to get to, in a beautiful wooded lot, with a private beach( well we share it with the other "trailer people"). Dh calls it our poor mans cottage. We love it! Most days are spent at the beach, tanning, swimming, sand castle making, fishing and exploring. Then we spend our nights around the campfire eating smores.

Have a wonderful day Snowbirds! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the information, Becca! We are flying on Delta, so that makes the decision easy for me. We can take the darn thing and if we don't need it, fine but if we do, it will be there!

You're very welcome! I'm glad I could help!

As for the QOTD: I'd have to say the beach. We never actually went on many vacations when I was younger. We always went to visit family. We've gone on 3 (non)family vacations - twice to Disney and once on a Cruise.
However, my Grandpa had a beach house in Atlantic City, NJ. He says it was a "shore" house, because it was 8 houses away from the beach :confused3
Anyways, we would go visit him, and we would get to spend time on the beach. It was pretty amazing. Alas, they sold it a few years ago. He was doing on the upkeep on it, and he's getting old, so he couldn't do it anymore.

I do not plan on only vacationing at Disney for the rest of my life though. There's too many other places I want to see. This year it works, because I want a really relaxing trip, and I've found that I can't relax properly when I can't understand the people around me, and they can't understand me.

Question of the day?
What is you favorite place to vacation BESIDES WDW?

My favorite place to go would be Hawaii, specifically Maui! We had a wonderful time there, and hope to go back soon!

The place I'd really like to go is Australia. That's going to take years of saving, though.
