WELCOME to the Snowbirds Robinbutterfly! :goodvibes Are you on the list?
There are so many Snowbirds that I can't keep track of who I've added! What are your dates?

To any other New York Snow Birds that are flying JetBlue. We received notice from them yesterday that BOTH of our direct flights for our January Trip have been cancelled! They were able to schedule us on flights with similar arrival times and they get us there only about an 1 1/2 later (but no more direct flights to keep things simple for the children). Major bummer!!!!

That really stinks. :sad2: Sorry.

Morning Snowbirds!

QOTD- We are going in January because we are celebrating our birthdays...One of us Dec. 29th and the other Jan. 9th!

Don't you hate it????? We are going Delta out of Boston and our flights have been changed 3 times already. Now we leave Boston and hour later, and we return to Boston 45 minutes earlier! It isn't fair that they can change their flights at no cost, but we can't! I want my hour and 45 minutes of extra vacation time!

WELCOME to the Snowbirds Robinbutterfly!

oh one more quick question...
Is Coral Reef 1 or 2 dining credits?
Still can't decide on a dining plan.:confused3 :headache:

I think it is still one credit.... we enjoy this place... and you know you can have special menus done up for your group.... we did this last February.... it was such a surprise to the rest of our group....

I saw this on another board yesterday and called them... I was to say the least a little annoyed... because the flight they rebooked us on was available when I originally scheduled my flights at a much lower price.... I paid extra for the direct flight.... now they won't credit me back the difference because they said that the flight is now more expensive..... well it wasn't when I booked...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... I am not done with them yet...............

That is terrible! :sad2:  Keep fighting with them, maybe they'll give in!

Good morning Snowbirds! :goodvibes

I sure hope all of our Snowbirds (and their children) who are not feeling so well will be doing better very soon. :flower3: :grouphug:
Thanks:goodvibes I'm so tired of wiping snot from my kid's noses. At least fevers are gone but it's going to be a lazy day around here.

I had no idea they did special menus! We are going for my hubby's birthday so I would love to do something cool like that! How do you arrange it? :yay:

I swear airlines get away with murder. You paid for a non stop flight and now pay the same price with stops? You should get a credit, they aren't providing the service you paid for! Again it isn't fair that they can do this, but God help you need to change your flights there is a fee. Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

Were you just assigned a new flight. I never even got a notice our flight had been changed. I just looked and waalaaa new times!

Arggh! Airlines drive me nuts.

For our last Disney trip, we had a great rate on tickets with Frontier. A little while before our trip I was reading in our local paper that Frontier was no longer flying to Orlando from our airport! :scared1: I called and they were, let's just say, less than helpful. They offered to rebook us on Northwest - but we'd arrive 12 hours later and leave 8 hours earlier. I said no way, took my refund and found a different flight on my own. It cost us hundreds more. Total nightmare. I can't believe I had to read it on my own in the paper - what if I hadn't seen the article?!

I hope things go better for you!!

And QOTD: We went early Feb last trip (2008) and loved it. The flights for Jan were a little cheaper, so we chose January this year. Praying for good weather! We lucked out last trip - it was record highs the whole time we were there. I had to buy my son a new T-shirt because we didn't pack enough short sleeves...

Anyways, just thinking why all the rest of the snowbirds picked Jan??

Disney Marathon! Otherwise, early January timing is actually mediocre for us, at best, since we work on an academic schedule and classes start in early January. Otherwise, I admit I do schedule my vacation when classes are in session so that when I'm getting away, I'm getting AWAY - not getting away with the rest of the city! ;)

We are going in January to celebrate DS 16th birthday. He has the last week of school off as it is Regents week here... well except Monday... and I think he will be "sick" that day............ we have been in February, March, April, May, June, August, and November..... never January so I am curious about the crowds..... TGM has it as low crowds during our stay... I hope that is right

Good for you!!! I'm starting to file for graduation now, it is such a wonderful feeling knowing the end is in sight!!!!!
I hope you get to take a light load, and save all that money (that's like ANOTHER DISNEY TRIP right there :woohoo: )

I lucked out in only having to do 9 credits my last semester, and it is soooo much better! Ofcourse now I don't want to do anything! Which reminds me I should be working on a paper......not Dising

I really hope I only have to take 7 credits. It's not like it will be that I have the extra money in my pocket or anything, but I won't have to take out as large of loans in January, which would be soo nice...

Cheers! I'll second that one!
That's why I love the DDP, even though I know I paid for it, I feel like I'm not paying anything while I'm there, so it feels wonderful eating at all of these wonderful resturants and not forking over cash for it! It's a twisted philosophy, but it makes me happy, so what are ya gonna do! :confused3
Now if only they'd offer free dinning when I can go!

Oh, and I love your username! lol

I'm really torn about the Dining Plan, because I really don't want to pay everything in advance, but if it's free, I'll probably succumb.

And I'm excited about not having to eat college cafeteria food for the week!

I'm excited about not having to eat mac & cheese and hot dogs all the time.

oh one more quick question...

Still can't decide on a dining plan.:confused3 :headache:

It's definitely 1, unless they've changed it since I made my ADRs...

Hey snowbirds! I haven't been around in awhile...papers and midterms and things :headache: . But now they're over and I'm going home tomorrow for fall break! :woohoo: There is certainly going to be lots of Disney preparation, planning, and scrapbooking! Are any other of the cruise snowbirds making door magnets? any tips??

Yay! That's great news. I hear you on the annoying advisors, though. I know they have a lot of students to get through and they are trying to do their job, but they really can be snippy...especially if you want to do something the least bit different. (lol...can you tell I'm having advisor troubles right now? I'm trying to get study abroad for next year worked out and they are not being helpful!). Anyway, good for you!

So I have had a lot of people ask me why I we are going to WDW in Jan. This is an easy answer for us: My husband does seasonal work so we can only travel from Nov - April. Nov my brother is getting married in Mexico, so that's out, and Dec - just couldn't leave all the family behind. So that left us Jan-April. Picked Jan because of crowds.

Anyways, just thinking why all the rest of the snowbirds picked Jan??

It really was kind of by default. I was making my wedding plans, and decided on January for a bunch of different reasons, then the honeymoon was just kind of a byproduct of that. K-State doesn't start back for Spring Semester until January 15th, so we're going to WDW the 4th through the 13th which will give us a day to transition back to Manhattan before school starts again.

Luckily... my flights haven't changed TOO terribly much. I think we leave about 10 minutes later on our departure, which means we arrive at MCO a little later. But our return flight got pushed back as well, so we're not really losing any Disney time. I didn't even try to get a direct flight from MCI to MCO, so we're flying through Atlanta, which is a hub for Delta anyways (and also one of my favorite airports to navigate -- I lived in Georgia for 3 years in high school, so I'm very familiar with the airport) so I'm pretty sure our flights won't get canceled.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to try it but I just found a thread on here all about personalized menus at CR and rumor has it that they aren't taking any requests for 2009 and it will be either be discontinued when YOAMD ends or they will start charging for it. I know it's lots of work to make the magic happen but by golly it's Disney and I want the MAGIC!!! :wizard: As long as they don't charge an arm and a leg for it I'm willing to pay to have it. It's my hubby's bday and I want to make it special. My kids will absolutely flip when they see the tank and diver!

Morning all,

QOTD: We like to go during slow times. DH asked when the slow times were and we chose Jan over Sept. I just hope it's warm enough. I know all you "real" snowbirds will scoff...but I'm a Texas girl! Yesterday evening it was in the mid 60's and I had to go inside and put on a jacket. Brrrr! I don't like weather colder than mid 70's. We went last December and the weather was very much the same as Houston so I'm just hoping I pack the right amount of layers. That being said in Dec we did have to wear jacket in the early am/ late pm but in the middle of the day we were very warm.:woohoo:

I had typed a whole long response about being on Main Street first thing in the morning.....DS2 walked in and hit the ESC button on my keyboard:sad2: Oh well, when I get the energy and time I'll type it again.

QOTD ~

Well we have only been to WDW once in October and 2 times in May. The first week of October 2005 was terribly hot and crowded. Never again. The middle week of May (Mother's Day week) 2007 was great, hot but not ridiculously hot - mid 80's everyday, cooler evenings. Crowds were very manageable with most waits under 20 minutes. So we thought why mess with a good thing and went the same week in May 2008. Well the weather was so hot we were dragging by noon. Most days were right around 94-95 and SO humid. Crowds were a little higher than the year before, but still not bad.

So, we ruled out October and May. We wouldn't go in June, July, or August. We wouldn't go during spring break, which eliminates mid February-April. We've always wanted to go at the beginning of December (which was supposed to be a slow time in the past) but I guess it was gotten crazy busy. It is too long to wait until November 2009, so we were now pretty much down to January or early February. I was leaning towards the first week of February, but then realized the Superbowl thing.

So that's the story of how I became a January Snowbird!! :cool1: :rotfl:

Kind of ditto what Shelly said. We went last January & had a ball.I was actually looking later Jan more into Feb-but the Super Bowl thing-then the room prices jump out of 'value season' and wanted to save that little bit-in case we didn't get a good code. Which by the way--anyone heard anything?

Well as far as why I chose Janauary it came down to the fact it allowed me to have more time at Disney World while minimizing the days I had off. I first planned on visiting at Christmas time (mid-December) however I would only be able to take a couple days off from work (too close to finals time). So I looked at the January calendar and decided to go around MLK that would give me a free day and still according to TGM the crowds will be minimal (even over that weekend) so that is why I choose to go in January.

To those of you suffering issues with airlines..I'm so sorry:sad2: I was considering using my airline miles in the end my fear of flying (I literally have an anxiety attack). Now I'm just going to drive down with all my supplies. My biggest worry is getting all my stuff from the car to my room at midnight YUCK!!!

Hey, guess what!? I am at double digits today!!!
:tinker: pixiedust: party: :rockband: :jumping1::cheer2: :cheer2:    :dance3: :dance3: :yay: :yay: :cheer2: :yay:

99 days!! Let the countdown continue!! :hourglass:

Wow, I thought it would never get here!!!

nope... nothing yet... I haven't even heard of anybody getting e-mailed pins for next year...:confused3 which is sad, because I'm pretty sure people started mentioning them this time of year last year...

Good Morning all!
We are going in January because we found a cheaper cruise starting Feb 1, and wanted to go to WDW first. The rates are way better than later in winter. Even though the weather would be warmer in FL and the Bahamas later, it would be more crowded and expensive. Our kids don't have time off other than the big holidays and March spring break, so we'd pull them out anyway. I can't be gone from work in March without extra hassle, so the times worked out for us. Frankly, we live in Minnesota - January/February is the perfect time to be in Florida!! Last year we popped into WDW for the Friday of MLK weekend, and it was somewhat crowded (more than I had experienced), and the weather was dreary and wet, but we knew it was -20 F at home so we didn't care!
Let's just pray that we all get at least a few sunny above average temp days!
Have a great Friday everyone!!:)
