January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part II !!!

Someone asked about these 2 places to eat. My family has been to both places on each of your visits. Being from Wisconsin, we eat Steak, so any kind of seafood to us is fabulous. The Lobster tails at Cpt. Jacks were small, but very good. Not fishy tasting, but I know they are not East Coast quality. I thought for a 1 credit TS, it was a fabulous meal. The desserts are not that great however....

Coral Reef to my family is the greatest restaurant! My DD9 likes the build you own sundae...my DD12 loves the MahiMahi. The atmosphere is great. It was also a 1 TS credit.

I guess I am going to have to call for a Fantasmic package....and try to get one for Jan 22. My hubby is going to have a fit. He doesn't like "MGM" at all, but I really want to see the fireworks and shows. He will have to suck it up!:rotfl:

Well, I'm off to another board to check out my co-workers dining report from her last trip. I'm so glad that tomorrow is Friday. I work in a male prison and I really can't wait for the weekend!

Good night for now.

oh one more quick question...
Is Coral Reef 1 or 2 dining credits?
Still can't decide on a dining plan.:confused3 :headache:

I think we had this discussion some time ago. I don't think it was conclusive but the list of restaurants from the Disney website does NOT say 2.

Okay girls, I am still thinking about getting our family a chihuahua. I have seen some reaaaalllly cute little girls!!!! But oh my word!! The $$$$some people are asking!!!!! What's up with that!!??? I remember when people gave their dogs away--only show dogs were sold in big towns. Or really rare breeds-but man--I can't believe it. I actually have a friend who has a poodle- they just had the 2nd litter---she's asking $1500 a piece!! For a poodle!!! WOW. And I thought $300 was a lot!!!

I wouldn't mind getting a rescue dog--our dog we have now was a stray and I know that God just sent her to us --we adore her-----but, with a chihuahua I would be afraid not to get a puppy. I want her to be around Annie(our dog)and the kids so she won't be aggressive and barky with us. Any suggestions? I found a really cute one --$550 and she doesn't want to come down--and a white one(I think this is the one I'll really want) for $350--but that still just sounds like a lot!!

Bella---do you ever hear anything about people getting dogs from Dog Alley in Canton? We are supposed to go Halloween weekend--I would love to look there---but I am scared of bad breeders....What's a girl to do!!?!??

Hey snowbirds! I haven't been around in awhile...papers and midterms and things :headache: . But now they're over and I'm going home tomorrow for fall break! :woohoo: There is certainly going to be lots of Disney preparation, planning, and scrapbooking! Are any other of the cruise snowbirds making door magnets? any tips??

Maybe I should stop multiquoting in all my messages, then I'd make top ten...:confused3

I have some exciting news! I went to a meeting with my adviser yesterday. Usually, I resent these meetings, because it's really just a technicality where I have to go and have her lift my flag so I can enroll. I pretty much always have my schedule mapped out perfectly, and she's made some snide remarks to me about stuff in the past, (Ex. Oh you're taking the easy way) so I don't really like speaking with her, but I haven't really felt like changing my adviser, because I don't have very much time left.
Anyways... I had my whole schedule of 15 credits mapped out for her to "approve" (usually I change what classes I end up taking when I've spent more time thinking about it) and she told me that by her calculations I only have 7 credits left to take in the Spring. This news is very exciting, because I thought I would have to take a full load, and she thinks I won't. I'm going to go ahead and enroll in the 15, but I'm getting a "graduation check" done. They'll get back to me at the end of November or the beginning of December with how many credits I have left to graduation, and if their numbers match her numbers, then I can drop 8 credits. I am particularly pleased about this news, because it means I'll only have to pay for 7 credits, which will save me around $1500 of debt, plus I could potentially get a full time job, because 7 credits is cake.

I also got my license renewed yesterday for my birthday next month, and it only took me like 10 minutes, which amazed me, because I'm used to waiting for hours to do anything at the DMV.

Yesterday was a good day! Hopefully, the end of the month will be just as good and we'll all get discounts!:yay:

Yay! That's great news. I hear you on the annoying advisors, though. I know they have a lot of students to get through and they are trying to do their job, but they really can be snippy...especially if you want to do something the least bit different. (lol...can you tell I'm having advisor troubles right now? I'm trying to get study abroad for next year worked out and they are not being helpful!). Anyway, good for you!

So I have had a lot of people ask me why I we are going to WDW in Jan. This is an easy answer for us: My husband does seasonal work so we can only travel from Nov - April. Nov my brother is getting married in Mexico, so that's out, and Dec - just couldn't leave all the family behind. So that left us Jan-April. Picked Jan because of crowds.

Anyways, just thinking why all the rest of the snowbirds picked Jan??

Perhaps he escaped because he has an alias now! Wasn't he Disco Dale when he was put in the slammer last time? :lmao:
Oh, he's sneaky! Or...it was past midnight and I was unable to put a coherent sentence together!:lmao: Of course we know that he is forever Disco Dale!

Or, worse yet, maybe he has a BROTHER!!!!!!!:scared1:

Snowbirds, keep on the lookout for Disco Dale AND his twin brother, Disco Dan!

As for the question about why January, my answer is because we're arriving back in the US just before Christmas. My kid are enrolled for second semester, which doesn't begin until January 20. They finish 2 marking periods here, so we aren't putting them in school until the 3rd marking period in the US. We had the time and hoped to avoid the huge crowds and awful heat of summer. I think January weather sounds perfect!:thumbsup2

Anyways, just thinking why all the rest of the snowbirds picked Jan??

That is a great question - I've wondered that myself.

hmmm....we couldn't go during the holidays - too busy with work. Next summer, we're looking to go to Mexico for a missions trip so we wanted Disney to be far enough away from that. Also, since we already have hot weather at home, we wanted to avoid FL heat. I guess that left Jan/Feb - we ended up choosing January over February for scheduling reasons.

And here I am, in the snowbirds thread - hiding from Disco Dale or Dan or whatever alias he chooses.

Woohoo! Howdy neighbor! We live just 20 minutes from Watertown.........When is your trip to WDW?

We go Jan 25th thru 31st..... Watertown is about an hour north of us... we are just into Oswego Coutny....:cool1:

Woohoo! Howdy neighbor! We live just 20 minutes from Watertown.........When is your trip to WDW?

 Uh-Oh I'm being wishy washy again!! I can't decide Teppan Edo or Le Cellier (that menu looked so good and that cheddar cheese soup YUM) I don't know LOL!! Oh the agony...what would you guys choose?

We vote for Le Cellier in our house...........its sooooooooooo yummy!!!

Afternoon Snowbirds!
Hope everyone's have a great day!
It's very busy here!
There's also a nasty fog rolling in. I love these kinds of days because it's so cool to watch from my office. I have a loverly corner office on the 16th floor over looking central park, it makes work a lot more bearable!!!!

Peaches, my prayers are also out for Danny's family, that is so heartbreaking to hear.

QOTD: Hmmm, I have some awesome meals planned, it's so hard to pick one! I'm really looking forward to my dinner at the Cali Grill as it'll be my first night there and I love their food, and my second choice would be Marrakesh since it's the first time I'll be eating there!

DH loves Marrakesh.... not sure if it is the food or the entertainment:confused3

Morning Snowbirds!!!

Quite possibly my favorite show of all time!

It was hilarious last night- especially the first two minutes:happytv:

I think we had this discussion some time ago. I don't think it was conclusive but the list of restaurants from the Disney website does NOT say 2.

Thanks! I still can't decide on a dining plan. If they would just offer it free for January, there wouldn't be any trouble!

So I have had a lot of people ask me why I we are going to WDW in Jan. This is an easy answer for us: My husband does seasonal work so we can only travel from Nov - April. Same here. My hubby is in lawn care so that rules out summer vacations for us. We thought about December but my sister's hubby had no more vacation time left for 2008 so we picked January. Plus we are super excited for the lower crowds and to not be sweating in 100 degree heat.
We are doing the Fantasmic pkg that same day at the same restaurant and ALMOST the same time! Our ressie is for 4:30pm! See you there!
:woohoo: We'll have to say hello!!!

Wow - I can't believe I missed it.

I'm doing the double digit dance!

98 days!!!!

  YEAH..... double digits for you!!!

1900 PF looks like so much fun! :goodvibes I'm glad I booked it!!

Don't forget to try the strawberry soup..... it is really tasty

Has anyone heard some news about Pirate & Princess Party dates??? I'm hoping we see one the last week of Jan!

I have been waiting for them also..... we did this a few years ago and it was tons of fun.... the kids dressed up.... it was the first time I saw Tink in a parade

Yesterday's answer: I think we're looking forward to our breakfasts the most, especially Boma!

Today's answer: We're going in January because it's supposed to be the lowest crowds. We looked into the first week-ish in December, but Pop Warner football was that week, so no thanks.

Low crowds and not sweating all day = happy Trixie! :)

QOTD Yesterday: I think that I am most excited about California Grill... celebrating DS 16th birthday there!!!

Good morning Snowbirds! :goodvibes

I sure hope all of our Snowbirds (and their children) who are not feeling so well will be doing better very soon. :flower3: :grouphug:

QOTD ~

Well we have only been to WDW once in October and 2 times in May. The first week of October 2005 was terribly hot and crowded. Never again. The middle week of May (Mother's Day week) 2007 was great, hot but not ridiculously hot - mid 80's everyday, cooler evenings. Crowds were very manageable with most waits under 20 minutes. So we thought why mess with a good thing and went the same week in May 2008. Well the weather was so hot we were dragging by noon. Most days were right around 94-95 and SO humid. Crowds were a little higher than the year before, but still not bad.

So, we ruled out October and May. We wouldn't go in June, July, or August. We wouldn't go during spring break, which eliminates mid February-April. We've always wanted to go at the beginning of December (which was supposed to be a slow time in the past) but I guess it was gotten crazy busy. It is too long to wait until November 2009, so we were now pretty much down to January or early February. I was leaning towards the first week of February, but then realized the Superbowl thing.

So that's the story of how I became a January Snowbird!! :cool1: :rotfl:

Have any of you thought of starting a January Snowbirds yahoo group?
It might be easier to post and read stuff. Just a thought. I am a newbie here so not trying to change things but just offer suggestions.
Anyway, to answer the QOTD. We were going in December up until 2 days ago. I changed everything, air, hotel, dining ressies etc.
I realized how crowded Dec was going to be and I wanted to go the least crowded time as possible so my 3 and 4 year old will not have to spend most of the trip standing in line waiting to get on a ride. January seemed perfect in every way. I am a little nervous about the weather, but hopefully it will be fine.
The last time I went to WDW was in 1991. Husband and I went to Euro Disney in 2003, but this will be the first time my kids have been to WDW. We are very excited!

To any other New York Snow Birds that are flying JetBlue. We received notice from them yesterday that BOTH of our direct flights for our January Trip have been cancelled! They were able to schedule us on flights with similar arrival times and they get us there only about an 1 1/2 later (but no more direct flights to keep things simple for the children). Major bummer!!!!
