AWWW!! Girls!! Ya'll are too sweet!! I know if I ever meet ya'll I will probably just bust out crying!!:sad1:

Sharadoc-I agree completely. Isn't odd that things that are different 'morally' or non-religious/political are so embraced by people- but, when we raise our children by our christian values, or want to educate them at home, every body gets jumpy and very defensive? It's really weird the reactions people give off sometimes. I never knew, for example, that homeschooling pushed soooo many peoples buttons. That was an eye-opener for me!! Well, live & learn I guess!! I think it's good actually-you really have to examine what you believe, and why you are making the decisions you make. When you really get down to it, you know what you stand for and why and that gives you the confidence to stick with it. Okay--I will get off my soapbox now! That got kinda rambly! Well, off to do dinner and wash more laundry!!:laundy: At least all these hurricanes are keeping me caught up on that end!

Hey everyone I just wanted to share some potentially exciting WDW news!!
My DM got an e-mail with a pin code for FREE DINING in December!!!!! I can't use it (different last name and all), but hopefully there will be free dining offers for Jan. too! Let's all keep our fingers crossed!!!!!

Disneymom-I hope you have a smooth evacuation and that Ike stays clear!
Too bad you can't evacuate to WDW...

Ha!!! I actually thought about it!!! You know, we look for every opportunity available to go over there!!:wizard: We need some relaxation after all this!!

I can relate so much here. When I chose to homeschool I was shocked by my friends and families reaction to it. My sons are both disabled and we did what was best for them, to bad others cannot see it that way.
Stay safe, sending good thoughts your way.

If someone in a store offers you assistance, and they don't work
there, you might live in Pennsylvania.
Ok, this one is so me. :thumbsup2

And for the record I dont know miles.....but I know I live about 30 mins. from philly! I guess that is 30 miles.:lmao: Oh and since we were talking about Lancaster. I have this theroy that if you turn at a turkeyhill, it takes you to were you need to go.

Welcome to the Snowbirds, and our secret plot to take over the world (Did I just say that out loud?) Which suburb are you in? I don't know if you're near me, but you've probably heard of our local nuclear plant !!

Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about the secret plot :ssst: .

I'm from a place called Allentown. Perhaps you're formiliar with the Billy Joel song. That's our claim to fame. :rockband:

Good evening Snowbirds!! (Or should I say PA dwellers since that's apparently the majority of everyone;) ) I'm only about 20 minutes to the PA border- does that count? I loved the jokes today BTW!!!:rotfl:

Hope everyone is staying safely away from Ike.

My dh and I were talking Disney last night and I found out his favorite character is the Prospector from Toy Story b/c he says "My biscuits are burnin'!" I've been trying to carefully ask him his favorite Disney character without tipping him off and sounding obvious so I can ask the hotel to have balloons and a birthday card in our room when we arrive. Don't know if they'll have a card from the Prospector though. I was told by a CM to call ASMo about 3 days prior to our arrival and ask. Anyone done this before?

Then we got to chatting about our favorite cartoons and I thought that might make a good QOTD on here.

Here's mine- my dh had no idea who Humphrey Bear was and had no idea while I was trying to describe it to him last night in bed. I looked it up on youtube and there it was! I love when they bump their tushes together.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHI0Cz3JjbM

His is any cartoon with Yosemite Sam in it- not Disney but he couldn't pick a Disney one b/c he was deprived as a child and never really knew Disney. His first trip to WDW was our honeymoon. Poor thing:sad1:

This is a lovely idea, but I'm not sure it's feasible. From everything I've learned on these boards, they don't actually assign you a specific room until you check in. Perhaps they could have them in your room while you're out having dinner or something?

It's so funny with all these PA folks in here. I grew up about 30 miles south of Gettysburg in a small town in Maryland. Went to PA all the time. I miss the east coast sometimes. My whole family still lives there. However it is nice that they can come visit me in CA and go to Disneyland too!

I didn't think they assigned rooms until check-in either which is why I was surprised when the CM told me to call a few days ahead and they would know my room then. Then again the CM's are well known to all give conflicting info. :sad2:

What do you mean funny! I once measured fabric for two different women at a Wal-Mart because no one was actually working in the department! :rotfl2: It's all true!

OMG you didn't? That's hysterical! Wal-Mart doesn't know how good they have it with you! ;)

Wanna drive me to the Detroit airport in January? :rotfl2: DH just informed me yesterday that he WILL NOT drive our car there in the snow. So I guess we'll be car shopping...again.

If there's snow...
Well...
It's not like anyone clears 94 anyway. Your best bet would be to take County-cleared backroads the whole way there, anyway.

For a state that gets regular snow, I don't understand why SE Michigan acts like it's a surprise EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

That said, in 2005, when we went in January and drove ourselves that was... amusing. We left super-duper early and, it was snowing pretty good, I had very very low visibility. But I'll be danged if I was gonna miss my trip to DISNEY AND FLORIDA! We were delayed for two hours, then had to get de-iced and then...

...when we got to Florida, we had to change into shorts straight away. That was a shock to the system.

We went to my niece's b-day party in Ypsilanti in early February last year. The trip back was horrible! It wasn't awful over there, but the closer we got to home, the worse it got. Around Grand Rapids the police had closed I96! We had just gotten our new car (we went from a 4 wheel drive to a front wheel drive :sad2: ) and it handled terribly in the snow. That is the second-to-the-most stressed I've ever seen DH. It took us almost 6 hours to get home, it should have only taken 3. So...it looks like we're going back to 4-wheel drive!

Well I am one shocked Pennsylvanian, I didn't know the fireworks are at 7 in January  I made all our dinner reservations for right around 7...guess I am gonna have to change one or two.

Yep - I actually went to customer service to let them know what I did, and they called the assistant manager over to talk to me. His answer - "well, this IS a self service store." NOT IN FABRIC, you goofball! I was so annoyed that I wrote a note to corporate. The manager of the store called me, apologized and asked me to come to the store and gave me a gift card.

I worked in retail for a long time, and I just can't stand to watch people need help and not get it!

Hello Snowbirdies!

Finally able to relax after a VERY long day of work. It's nice to sit down and relax and check out the Dis! I have to tell you . . . I love this thread. I think that after our January vacations are over and done with, we should plan a Jan. 2010 visit all together! All of us PA folk could just car pool, or perhaps charter a jet! :) I know a good pilot ;)

I'm headed to bed!

Bless your heart:flower3: I am proud of you!! You did what was best for your little boys and that's the best blessing! God is soooo gonna bless you for doing the right thing! It's kinda weird how people react when you homeschool, isn't it? Kinda like you are out to get them personally or something! YIKES!! I always think of these really good come-backs, but never say them. Someday..... Don't the craziest thoughts pop into ya'll's heads when people make smarty comments to you in front of your kids. I am really tickled right now thinking of a few things I am always so tempted to say. But, that wouldn't be right, would it?...Ha!! Glad to have you on our thread Crystal Castle!!!

Oh my goodness!! I just asked my dh last week what the name of that bear was!! He is sooo funny! And the little ranger man with his little outfit!!!Love it!!And I love the 'Put it in the Bag' song!!!

Ha! Ha! Ha! That is hysterical!!! And you are correct--fabric is NOT self serve. I am really cracked up about this!!

Boy, I can understand that! We live about 50 minutes below Syracuse (which averages around 112 inches of snow a year and had 190 inches in 2003-04 which was the highest city snow fall in the country that year). And guess what airport we fly out of year long? Four wheel drive isn't an option, it's a way of life:thumbsup2! It is torture every year we go to WDW in January. Get up about 5 hours before the flight and see if it has snowed, will it snow more? Will flights be cancelled? Oh well, part of the fun of being a Snow Bird!;) Everyone have a good night.:wave2:

I am seriously jonesin' for some Turkey Hill Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup ice cream! GAH! I lived across the street from a Turkey Hill before we moved here. Miss it.

I'm from a place called Allentown. Perhaps you're formiliar with the Billy Joel song. That's our claim to fame. :rockband:
And we're livin' here in Allentown. And they're closin' all the factories down. Out in Bethlehem there killing tiiiiime. Filling out forms. Standing in line...

Love me some Billy Joel!

My sister lives in Macungie. Ever heard of it? She works at Lehigh Valley Hospital and went to Allentown College (Now De Sales U). I have a little piece of my heart in Allentown. :goodvibes My BFF went to Muhlenburg College so I spent lots of time in Allentown.

Welcome to the party, Mark! Of course you can join! Though, I'd venture to say that gender-wise, you are in the minority! We are a crazy bunch of Disney nuts. One more nut is always welcome! :lmao: :welcome:

Hope the rest of you snowbirds are sleeping well! I'm up and ready to go! Today is a half day off. Sort of. Not officially, but our work load is often lighter on Fridays, especially during Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting. But I have to work on creating a promotional brochure for our church and relief arm. And Scot has to fix some coworker's ceiling fans. So, we'll be off and running soon! And of course, there is always this:laundy: to keep me busy! With 4 kids, laundry never ends, does it?:sad2:
