January 2008 Code Watch

Hi all, if Jan 21 is MLK Day, are the crowds only going to be in the weekend before? Will the actual day (21st) be busy? Will DW charge more for this day for a room? Will the week before or after be busier? Thanks for the info!

The crowds DURING a 3-day weekend are high. The Disney CM I spoke to when booking said that the week AFTER the MLK holiday should be the best (i.e. lowest crowds). We are checking in on 1/22 and the CM thought that would be a great time.

I'm not certain about rates being higher, but I started out with our ressie for 1/21 - 1/25, then switched it to 1/22 - 1/26 and the price did not change at all.

HTH!

I've booked the Poly @rack rate for Sat 1/19-Sat 1/26, hoping for an AP code! :) The rate for Sat and Sunday night 1/19 & 1/20 of MLK weekend are $360 whereas starting on Monday night for the rest of the trip it is $340. So not sure if the higher rate is due to it being a weekend or if it is because it is MLK weekend?

They are starting to post refurbishment schedules on the calendar at the Disney World site. Looks like Splash Mtn & Minnie's house will be closed the whole month of January. Snow White is closing on 1/28. Thank goodnes SW will be open when we're there that is my kid's FAVORITE! I am a little sad about Splash Mtn but if a big ride has to close that would be my pick so I can live with it. Part of the downfall in going in January!

We were there MLK weekend 2006. We did AK on Sunday with EMH at the MK that night. I thought the crowds were great. We did MK on Monday, MLK Day, and that was the busiest of all the days we were there. This year I am not going to MK for that day. May do Seaworld that day unless they decide to do the P&P party at MK that night (calendar says park closes @7 on MLK Day).

Hoping for any discount I can get-- Jan 2-14. Will gladly buy an AP to get a good discount, especially since I am not doing a package with dining in 2008. The DDE would be just fine with me, if I am "forced" into the AP route for a discount. Christy

:thumbsup2How About Jan 2-5. Really busy? We will be in Fla. for the holiday and thought I could use up 2 days on a parkhopper. Not sure when we would be able to get back. MAYBE last week of June.

Will look for a code though.:thumbsup2

We started planning a bit late for our upcoming trip (Jan 27 - Feb 03) to the world, and missed out on AAA rates for CSR, so we ended up paying rack rate. We have never stayed at CSR before, but decided we wanted to give it a try this time. Hoping for a code to get our cost back down to AAA rates.

Can I scream NOOOOOOO?!? Splash Mountain was closed when we were there last January and it is (was) the ride I was most looking forward to going on. :sad2:

We were there in Feb. '05 (actually the first of February), and crowds were very manageable. THe weather can bea little iffy though, we went from buying lightweight Tshirts one day to putting on every available layer two days later. I kid you not, I wore silk long john pants and cashmere sweaters for all but our arrival day and first full day at YC! The funny part was I bought a lightweight tee in the gift shop and then never was able to wear it because of the weather shift! SO be prepared and watch the weather forcast on up till the day of your trip!

The last 2 years we were down there at the end of January and the beginning of February, and the days were warm and the nights were cool to cold. As mentioned, you basically you have to be prepared for anything. In fact, last year they had record lows while we were down there. They even had to shut down Test Track because of ice on the outdoor part of the track!

Of course, we will take a cold day in Florida anytime, over a cold day in Michigan. ;)

Subscribing...

We were also there for the record cold in Feb. last year. It was miserable. We wore winter coats and had the little hand held heat packs for evenings. Brrrrrr.

We have our ADRS made for a mom and son trip and fingers crossed for a P&PP but won't make hotel reservations until a discount is announced. I hope my one measly room NOT booked is enough to make Disney announce a huge discount. ;)

I've been lurking for a long time and decided it was finally time to post. Bear with me. We are going 1/29-2/5 for our second Disney trip :goodvibes . Hoping for a code.

We go almost every year, same time. We arrive the Friday after new years. The parks are never busy at all for that following week. We walk onto almost everything. Last year we went the 2nd weekend after, and it was a little busier, but certainly no sweat....January....at any time other than the first, is a fantastic time to go to disney....You will never regret it....Even MLK weekend isnt aweful....have fun, get to the parks when they open, and your day will be awesome....

Hey DarthMickey we too are staying at CSR but from Jan 26-Feb 2 and also awaiting a code. :surfweb:

We're going in January for our first ever winter trip - just 4 n over MLK weekend but hoping for an A/P code AND warm weather! I can't imagine using HAND WARMERS in FL just like we were at home skiing or something!! Hoping for 70's during the day and 50's at nite!:)

We were there in Aug. and Haunted Mansion was closed...so at least that's re-opened. DS loves Splash Mtn but I would've thought that would be too cold to ride in January anyway. (But I'm one of the ones that ALWAYS comes out looking like a drowned rat whenever I'm on a water ride!) Wonder when I should break the news to him?! He will be disappointed I know.... I hope they don't close anything else down...

Hello and welcome!

Hi there, we are planning an early January trip and I was hoping to stay at a monorail resort this time. I'm noticing that the discount codes for deluxe resorts seems to be almost nonexistent these days. Are they going to be any Florida resident discount codes for a monorail resort or am I going to be stuck paying rack rates?

Hi... I'm new...

I just have to say... I'm SO SAD about Splash Mountain. It says it's closed all the way through February 15th. :sad2:

does anyone know, do we have to wait till Nov. for our codes to come out? i believe this is when they came out last yr.
