January 2008 Code Watch

I just found the charts on the Mousesavers website that show the historical release dates for most discount codes. It goes back to 2004, and shows that that the Jan. codes are usually released in the end of October or early November. Unfortunately, it looks like our wait may be a bit longer, but on the positive side there was a discount code for January each year since 2004. Now we just have to keep our finger crossed for a decent discount.

Hi!
Just wondering, what exactly were the discounts that have come out for January in the past few years?
And, how does Disney get a person's name to randomly send the PIN?
DH and I are planning on Jan.21st - Jan.30th at CBR. :goodvibes
Love this thread!!!

Does anyone have any thoughts on how the weeks before and following these events will affect crowds? We're thinking of a trip at the end of Jan, but I'm not sure if Jan 21-25 or Jan 28-Feb 1 would be better.

We are going Jan 21-25, immediately AFTER MLK day. I spoke to several people at Disney, and they all agreed that this should be a fabulous, low-crowd time to go. People will be cleared out from the MLK weekend and it should be really nice. I would imagine either of your weeks would be good, just don't go any earlier than the 21st -- they said it's really busy then (any time there is a long weekend).

I booked 1/22-1/27 yesterday for the same reason. It is a "wonderful week of Disney" which I think means low crowds--we went over Easter last year and my DH vowed NEVER to go during a crowded time again!
(I hope we don't freeze though!)

Does anyone know how much the moderate rooms were discounted last year for this time period?

About the weather, jan-feb, I have had 80 degree days and windy 50 degree days. Durring our last trip, I swam in the pool but it wasn't that warm, I just wanted to so bad. If I'd done it the day before when it was 80, it would have been better!

We wore t shirts and wrapped a jacket around our waist just in case.
Actually, if you go back to the resort and then go back out, never leave without a jacket, maybe even a hat.

Has anyone gone the week leading into MLK? And does it seem crowded?

The last two years, we have gone the week of MLK and it generally not that crowded. I booked the same period this year, the weather during this week has been great mid 70s, now I started to think going before a long weekend is not a good idea.

We're going that week before MLK holiday. Our kids are out of school the Thursday and Friday before the weekend as well as the Monday. I'm hoping it's not tooo crowded, but suspect the week before will be more crowded than the week after. We were there in January of 2006 on the Thursday before the MLK holiday and it was a bit more crowded than I would have liked at the MK.

We have gone to disney that week for the past two years. 2006 didn't seem as crowded as this year, but having said that the lines weren't very long at any of the major attractions.

Don't forget that the marathon weekend is the weekend before MLK. The lowest crowd level will probably be the monday and tuesday before MLK.

We are going the last week of Jan. Are the discounts being discussed here are for rooms only? Being a DVC member can I qualify for discounts too?

Sure - if you're staying on a cash reservation and not points! There's no discount for using points! We currently have a DVC member discount booked for a studio for 4 n at VWL in January, which of course is 25% off the rack rate. But we also have AP's so we can always hope for an AP discount that might be more like 40% off somewhere. So we also went ahead & booked the same dates at POFQ 'cuz it's several hundred cheaper. We can decide later which one we want to keep & cancel the other one...but of course if an AP rate pops up somewhere ELSE and not either of those two then we could always decide to switch entirely. But just 'cuz you own DVC doesn't knock you out of eligibility for discount codes on cash!:thumbsup2

I am right here waiting with you!! We are planning a trip over MLK weekend for our DS's birthday! It may be crowded, but there is no way it can be as bad as summer!! (Of course, that doesn't keep me from going then either.)

We're going Jan 11-21.....we plan on staying away from MK that weekend. Hope the crowds aren't too bad.

ohhhh we're going in january too...been talking about upgrading...would a discount code be nice !!!!:yay:

ohhh a code for Jan 20-26 would be very nice....we just had to change from WL to CBR because DH had an injury/surgery in Aug and we just wanted to save a little $$$ and still have a great vacation....if a code came out maybe we could switch it back??? It's worth hoping for

Hi all, if Jan 21 is MLK Day, are the crowds only going to be in the weekend before? Will the actual day (21st) be busy? Will DW charge more for this day for a room? Will the week before or after be busier? Thanks for the info!

Yes, the room rates will be slightly higher because it is a holiday week-end. The marathon didn't really have an impact on the crowds, but it did take longer to get to the park on the buses because of the runners, etc. One day it took 45 min. to get to the MK from Port Orleans.

Since that weekend is Marathon Weekend, will this impact the crowd level during this time?

Elizabeth

Last year I wanted to go during marathon weekend. I didn't know anything about the marathon when I tried to book (in late October). My travel agent couldn't find a THING in the moderates for us. She then figured out that it was marathon weekend, so we ended up going the following weekend, and it was no problem at all.
