January 2008 Code Watch

This will be the second year in a row we missed out on Splash Mountain
Just another reason to plan another trip ;) not that any of us really need a reason anyway :thumbsup2

For those of you who have been in January before, specifically the last week or two, are EMH hours good or too busy? Also, were fast passes necessary or were they not even open?

:thumbsup2How About Jan 2-5. Really busy? We will be in Fla. for the holiday and thought I could use up 2 days on a parkhopper. Not sure when we would be able to get back. MAYBE last week of June.

Will look for a code though.:thumbsup2

It will probably be pretty busy. The last couple of years the crowd levels didn't go down until after the weekend following new years day.

Tahnks for the reply. I figured as much but hope for the best. I'm not sure we could stay anyway we'll have to see.

I keep hoping....

We were there this year the last week of January and went on all the extra hours days and it did seem to make the parks a tad bit more crowded than usual. Most of the fast passes were open but for the most part not necessary. Soarin' and Expedition Everest seemed to be the two rides that it was really needed for. We are going back in January at the same time and plan on going to the parks on the days that do not have the extra hours to see if that really thins out the crowds. Hope that helps.

I know you're asking specifically about January but we were just there in August & I think going to an EMH in the morning pretty much guarantees that you'll be at the busiest park for the day....it's not going to matter what month it is - it WILL BE THE BUSIEST PARK! The EMH DID come in handy for the water parks in the mornings tho! We were able to breeze right thru those & leave by the time the crowds started pouring in!!:thumbsup2 I think the evening hours are much more worth the time because they're for like 3 hours VS only 1 hour. We found that if we did a late opening we couldn't drag ourselves out of bed for an early opening the next day tho! It's just TOO MUCH and you're too exhausted! I'd vote for staying late over trying to go early!

We're going in January for our first ever winter trip - just 4 n over MLK weekend but hoping for an A/P code AND warm weather! I can't imagine using HAND WARMERS in FL just like we were at home skiing or something!! Hoping for 70's during the day and 50's at nite!:)

We were there in Aug. and Haunted Mansion was closed...so at least that's re-opened. DS loves Splash Mtn but I would've thought that would be too cold to ride in January anyway. (But I'm one of the ones that ALWAYS comes out looking like a drowned rat whenever I'm on a water ride!) Wonder when I should break the news to him?! He will be disappointed I know.... I hope they don't close anything else down...

I've been to WDW probably 7 or 8 times during January/February and that was the first time it was ever that cold. Usually it's in the 70's with an occasional day flirting with the 80's. Granted, the 40's and 50's in Orlando still beat the SINGLE DIGIT HIGHS we were avoiding in Kentucky! (Almost unheard of to have it that kind of cold here.)

During the winter, it seems like they tone down some of the water at SM. This may be my imagination, but when you make the first round in front of the ride and start to go up the first hill, you aren't splashed by the dropping boat like you are in the summer. During the summer, almost every boat gets a good squirt right before they start to ratchet upward. During the winter, that squirt is turned down/off.

I agree with you....the water doesn't get sprayed around nearly as much when it is chilly outside. Unfortunately for us, it won't matter when we are there in January. I'm sure going to miss SM but I guess I will just have to start planning the next trip.

joining in! we went last year during mlk weekend and had a fantastic time. this weekend we're hoping to go during the marathon (although, not on purpose, we were trying to avoid mlk weekend flying, since our tickets are free). glad to hear that the marathon weekend isn't too bad crowd wise!

82 days to go, 82 days to go!! I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it, I'm about to loose control and I think I like it!

WOOOOHOOOO!!!

We'll be there from Dec 31-Jan 5! (had to get the 2007 dining..lol)

Everyone snagged their lime green mickey heads???

The morning EMH are better if you can get up early and go. However around 10 or 11 the park will get crowded. If you can hop to another park then do it if not head back to your resort for a nap or swim then come back. The night time EHM is more crowded than the morning. More so if it is the only park open. I have tried MK at night on EHM a couple of times and morning is much better unless it is like midnight till 3 am.

Hope this helps.;)

We went in Jan 07 and like the evening EMH at Animal Kingdom. During the day the wait for Everest was about 4-5 hours. During EMH everyone rode it 2 times within 15 mins. We seem to like the evening EMH better than the morning ones as we are not early risers....

91 days to go...:cool1:

We love EMH during "value season" when the parks have decreased hours because it allows us a longer day. We don't find the crowds bad, but it's not deserted either...
We've only been once during the marathon and the only glitch was that the typical EMH days shifted to accomodate the marathon. We hadn't received the notice in our room, however, so didn't know about the switch and were at the wrong park and the wrong time. Transportation the morning of the actual marathon can be a bit nuts - I'd avoid the marathon starting/ending locations assuming you do get the notice in your room warning you about the event.
So we're going with DH on a business trip to CR in January at the conference rate - most likely in the far flung garden wings. We've added on a weekend in the tower because it's a dream of ours, but I think it's (accidentally) marathon weekend we've added. It sounds like I'm doomed and there won't be any codes marathon weekend. I wasn't thinking about that since we're not there for the marathon... Have there ever been codes during that time? We'll also be out of town first few days of November so we may miss a code announcement anyway. I guess I can call reservations everyday while we're away if a code is expected... Ideas?

Linda, as far as I know, last year's discount was available through all of January (check mousesavers for historical codes information), so I think you would be fine. However, availability might be limited. I don't how you have booked your room so far, but perhaps you could at least turn over the weekend booking to a specialized Disney travel agent who will then monitor the codes for you and try to apply it when one comes out. Dreams Unlimited is a sponsor of the disboards, other websites have other sponsors. Just calling Disney reservations without knowing the code is not going to help. I think they are not allowed to offer codes to someone who does not know them yet.

You are correct! 2006 and 2007 codes were available for all of january including the marathon weekends.

Hoping for a January 2008 code too.

I already booked All Star Sports w/AAA discount for $74.13 and doubt I'll find anything cheaper but still hoping.

Do the codes work for Saturday night stays or just Sun-Thurs? I only need to stay for Saturday night and then I move to Beach Club Villas for 4 days.

I think we will get a code on Oct 21st, since the other one is done Oct 20th. Maybe Oct 22nd because that is the Monday.
Looks like I will be getting up at 4am one of those days... lol.

If the code comes out, how will you make the reservations? Do you do this online? Who do you make the reservations with? I guess I assumed you called Disney with the code but they aren't open at 4 am. Help! Thanks.
