i'm HOPING to change it to a package tomorrow :goodvibes

once a package is booked can you call back and modify it if a code/ discount comes out?

My exact question! My son turns 10 on 01/13 and we would love to be there for his bday but would really like to avoid crowds also. Also will it be hard to find a room checking in on the 13th? Right now we are booked at the POR for the end of Feb but are willing to switch for the value season. TIA :)

We are going Jan 30 or Jan 31st to Feb 5th. Can't wait for codes. Never been this time of year. Let me know how the crowds and the weather will be. Thanks:dance3:

What exactly is a code? Is it just some numbers and letters that you quote to Disney to get a better deal? What is the possibility that one will be for Jan? Did they have it last year and how much of a discount was it? How does Disney get this info out to the public when a code becomes available?

Disney offers different types of codes, which are used for discounts on packages or rooms. Some fortunate souls have been lucky enough to receive PIN codes directly from Disney by email or snailmail. This type of code is linked to the individual and cannot be used by anyone else. If you've ever stayed on Disney property, you can call reservations and ask if they will please check to see if there is a code attatched to your name. Disney often also offers a Annual Passholder discount, which is what many of us are waiting for. This discount can be up to 40% off, which usually way more than offsets the cost of a season pass (only 1 person in your party needs the pass to qualify for the discount). Plus, w/ an AP you can opt to purchase the DDE for $65, which gets you 20% off food purchases in the World.

If you are a AAA member, you can also get a AAA discount, which you can book either through AAA or directly through Disney reservations.

mousesavers.com has historical info on when diff discount codes have been available, as well as when the codes were released. There has been an annual passholder discount code available for the last few years in January. The AP discount code for Jan 2007 was released in Nov 2006.

Subscribing! popcorn:: Hoping to go for our anniversary Jan 10-13. I know this is Marathon time, but last year we got a nice AP rate at WL for Jan 9-13 and are hoping for at least the same this year. pixiedust:

You guys are scaring me. How crowded is marathon time???

It is crowded for a couple of days. They close the roads for several hours and the buses don't run to some hotels during the race. Make sure that where you are staying is close to the park that you want to go to that day. The last time we went stayed at the Contemporary and had breakfast ressies in AK. We waited over 90 minutes for a bus - the whole time we were being told the bus was on its way. We finally took a cab ($35) since it was metered. We later found out that the bus did not come for over 3 hours because the roads were closed.

What are the actual days of the marathon? We're staying at the WL.

Jan 12 - 13 I think. If you are at the WL then plan on going to MK or take the boat to Cont. and get the monorail to Epcot on the 13. The Sat is not bad - just Sunday.

:) WHEW!! We already planned MK on the 12th and MGM on the 13th. So we will just get to MGM (might be difficult getting there but oh well) and then we'll stay all day. No breaks that day :)

Thanks and now back to your regularly scheduled Post

Just called and I got a very nice CM. They said the rates should be coming out very soon. There will will be alot of changes they said. Like for one Friday and Saturday nights will be slightly higer they said and they are going to be like the normal hotel chain. They just said that there could be alot of changes. I hope there good changes for all of us that love to travel to Disney. I think next week I may call the marketing Dept. to see how they send out pin numbers or codes. This may sound dumb, but it want hurt.:hippie:

Also, although the parks don't get that crowded in terms of ride wait times and such, the resorts are usually completely booked that weekend (particularly the deluxes with easy access to the parks where the marathons take place. The CR already didn't have availability in all room types when I called to book for my trip that ends right as the marathon weekend starts.

Even if you are planning on booking a package for a trip that comes near the marathon weekend, I would book room only now to make sure that you get the room type you want at the resort you want. You only have to make a deposit for the first night's room, but the reservation is 100% refundable up to five days before your arrival date, so you can always change it.

We are booked at WL Jan 12 - 20. I see now that is the time of the marathon - although we are coming in at the end.

I considered changing and coming like Jan 17/18 - Jan 24/25 but that puts me into MLK which also seems to have questionable crowd issues.

Any suggestions on which would be better?? My initial reservations are best with our schedule but this is a first time visit for my girls - 10, 8 and 7 and I want it to be really great for them - and me too!

You'll be fine - the parks are not all that crowded. Just the roads will be bad. Plan your Sat and Sun so that you don't use the roads and you will be fine. Afernoon on Sun it will clear up.

I agree with the previous poster - you will be fine. This past January, we were there during the week that happened to be between the marathon and MLK. We arrived on Saturday, but we didn't tour until Sunday. They only thing that we noticed was all of the sweaty people on the monorail! The parks weren't crowded. I would pick the marathon weekend over MLK weekend.
