Janet and Justin-Did you See what I just Saw???

Well, let's see. Here is an NFL sponsored site for kids. It includes the Superbowl AND the halftime show info as well. If it was not intended for kids, why do you suppose the NFL would put it on the kids'site?

http://www.nfl.com/xxxvi/kids/index.html

Honestly I don't care what web site it was posted on if you knew who was performing ahead of time then you should of removed the kids or turned off the tv. These are entertainers who perform basically for adult audience and teen audiences.

Thats just like the WWE saying they are a family oriented show. With all the T&A on there of course that wouldn't fly but you still see parents with children in tow in the audiences rooting for their favorite wrestler.

Garth Brooks and Clint Black, et al basically perform for adult audiences, too, but I suspect they could do a halftime show that kids could watch. I don't buy the argument that they were "adult" performers". They could have EASILY modified their performance to accomodate the fact that kids were watching.
1) because the nfl is stupid
Well, at least we agree on one thing.

please tell me you are not comparing clint black and garth brooks to kid rock and nelly.

i will ask again -- have you ever listened to kid rock and nelly's albums???? they cannot EASILY modify their performances to be kid friendly. they'd have to sing something other than their own songs which would of course, defeat the whole point.

garth brooks and clint black may perform for adults, but they are not adult performers. i would have no problem taking kids to a clint or garth concert. i would be out of my freaking mind to take kids to a nelly concert or kid rock concert.

there is adult entertainment (entertainment that is geared towards adults but is not inappropriate for kids) and ADULT entertainment (think playboy, the spice channel, and south park).

please tell me you understand the difference.

all i'm saying is that i find it very naive for a parent to think nelly and kid rock would be ok entertainment for young kids.

I agree with that, but this was NOT a Nelly or Kid Rock concert, it was the Superbowl halftime show. There are major differences in those two.

In their concerts, they probably do what THEY want and parents would be rather naive to think that this would be wholesome fun for their children. Did the Superbowl or halftime show come with warnings? I don't think it did and I imagine that there are probably different guidelines as far as what the "performers" CAN do at the Superbowl show vs. a live concert. However, the "performers" did what they wanted to, so if there were any guidelines on what they could do and not do, it didn't matter. IMHO, this all goes back to the prevalent attitude of "the world revolves around me and what I want to do and I don't have to respect other people."

Obviously, we all have differing opinions on what happened, I respect that. There isn't anything that anyone can say that will change my opinion of what I saw.

I would guess that the majority of people in the Super Bowl audience had no idea who kid rock or nelly were.

and your point is??? it's the parent's responsibility to do research on who is going to be performing and make a decision about if it's appropriate for their kids.

I have to agree with Caity again. I also have to say that it was obvious within the first 30 seconds that it wasn't family friendly...change the channel then.

Very excellently said Rita!! I respect everyones opinion as well and I agree to disagree......but I also like debating :teeth:

I have a theory, and I'll probably get flamed, but whatever! If you look @ the pics on yahoo and the drudge report, there's a little red lacy thing underneath the black leather. I'm assuming that justin was supposed to rip off the black leather, and the lacy red thing would be left there to hold in/cover (somewhat) her breast. By her reaction I don't beleive her whole breast was supposed to pop out. Also I don't think there was a 'pastie' thing on, I think she has a peircing and that's what the shiney thing was. She told Maxim magazine she had a peircing "there" (I think the word is filtered so I won't bother with it), and if she WAS going to expose her breast I'm sure she would have covered the 'area' a bit better. Just a theory, but by the look on her face when she looked down to see her breast exposed, I don't think it went as planned. (I also don't think she would have looked down at it if she knew it was going to pop out on purpose.)

tricia.

No flames here. I think you might actually be right judging by their reaction after it happened. This was approved by the network earlier in the week. They more than likely wouldn't have signed off on it if it had been intentional.

Performers at Half time have always performed the same music they are popular for and these headliners are extremely popular amongst even the youngest of kids. Yes, singing all the dirty words that go with them, too while their parents can't hear them.

I hate to even bring this name up, but Michael Jackson has been grabbing his own crotch on family TV shows for over 15 years and nothing is ever said about that not being for young kids. That's exactly what Nelly and PDiddy do, too.

I see more "boobs" on prime time TV any night of the week compared to the one that I completely missed until the emails started rolling today.

I see plenty of bare nipples right through dresses at awards shows that are televised and sometimes worse than that. I believe the bigger deal we make of this, it's just time that's being wasted thinking about nothing. Let's spend our time talking about ending Drug use, World Peace, etc.

TINKBELL......Not Hardly!!!! THAT looks WAY too painful to me!! I will just leave it to Janet and her boobs. (But of course I am sure hers were custom fitted!!!)

And, just how much do we care about what the europeans are laughing about?

This wasn't in a magazine on a shelf somewhere. This was during the middle of the highly-watched Superbowl which is seen during prime time by families.

We probably should since the rest of the world thinks we're a bunch of idiots. Here's an example. In Orlando there is a shop that used to have a lifesize statue of David on the sidewalk in front of it's store. The city told the store owner they would have to put clothes on it or remove it since so many people were offended. This is a work of art created by one of the most talented artists in the world. Proof that we Americans can't get past the belief that the naked body is only a sexual thing.

Matt I agree with you, I can definatly see why people would be shocked but I can also see where they had ample opportunity to change the channel. The beginning of the show was in bad taste as well. At the first "Crotch Grab" the channel should have been changed. (Oh and I have to say that picture in your signature is absolutly GORGEOUS!)

Again I have to say if you have been open and honest with your kids and are raising them with morals and a understanding of whats right and wrong then they will KNOW that the stunt pulled last night will not give them the kind of attention they would want and they will know BETTER than to act like that.

Its all in the relationship between parents and their children. Whos to say what our kids are subjected to...whether it be hearing things from other children at school, or watching something we might not approve of at another childs house. The point is our children ARE going to be subjected to this kind of thing and the important thing is that WE AS PARENTS explain whats right and wrong to them. We have to give them morals and we have to explain what they are going to see and hear. The worst thing in the world IN MY OPINION is to hide your child away from the REAL WORLD and that includes all the Janet and Justin stunts that are out there.

Here Here. I keep hearing people say "thank goodness my children weren't paying attention" or "I was so embarassed that my child saw it". If we are parenting to the best of our ability then there should be no worries. I read earlier that someone's daughter saw it and looked absolutely disgusted at what Justin did. She obviously knows that the act itself was wrong.

Well, I guess I will continue to live in my little naive world where my little girls dress like little girls and aren't allowed to have their bellies hanging out at school or the tops of the cracks of their butts sticking out of their jeans. :smooth: (and, no, I'm not saying "bad parent" for those of you who do let your girls do that, so let's not get started in THAT debate)

And I'll keep hoping that Leave It to Beaver and Andy Griffith makes a comeback. :teeth: :D

I haven't read all the replies.... but I want to say that what I find the most offensive is Justin and Janet trying to say it was a "costume malfunction" Don't insult the intelligence of the public.... you did it, you MEANT to do it, you PLANNED to do it and everyone is talking about it today so I'm sure you are GLAD you did it:rolleyes: What's he trying to do- top the Britney/Madonna kiss?? Good Grief- save it for your party buddies.
