Janet and Justin-Did you See what I just Saw???

Unfortunately in the REAL WORLD there is no PIXIE DUST TO SPRINKLE AROUND NOR MAGIC THAT SOME THINK THEY FEEL at DISNEY. You have to explain things to kids sooner than expected.

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT!!!!!!

Exactly, I am laughing my butt off that everyone is making such a huge deal about all of this. I'm sorry but its funny. Everyone is yacking about moral this and moral that but the moral IS....if you are raising your children with the good morals they KNOW that men don't go around ripping clothes off and they KNOW that the show was nothing more than ACTING out the lyrics to a VERY POPULAR song. Goodness if you are going to go into a riot over something please make it more important than a silly boob on TV. Don't we still have citizens overseas? Don't we have a huge Presidential Election Coming Up? Aren't there starving children? Its sad but sometimes I can see children telling their parents to please grow up and remember what is important. Its not JJ's boob!

I thought the half-time show was classless and tacky, not to mention the "music" (if you can call it that) was awful. I was watching with my 9 yr-old as Nelly grabbed his crotch, Kid Rock danced with a flag on himself and then Janet & Justin's planned "unplanned" incident. Next time, I'll skip the half-time and just watch the game.

And, this after Beyonce, dressed so elegantly and singing so beautifully at the beginning of the game.

I wasnt offended by the nudity. She actually has a really pretty boobie. :) I'm more offended that girls are being taught that you have to pull stunts like that to be popular and get attention (same can be said about Brittney and Madonna's lip lock). I would expect something like this on cable or an MTV awards show (we all remember Lil Kim and her pastie), but on a network show when kids are watching and parents don't know its coming....not acceptable.

Okay I'm going to get flamed but you can't tell me that parents didn't know something SEXUAL was going to be in that show. I mean Kid Rock? Nelly? JJ? Justin? When have they ever EVER performed that it wasn't sexual? Just looking at the line up of who was performing should have shown parents that it wasn't going to be a Mickey Mouse performance. Yes they did go over the line a bit showing her boob but it was okay all the bumping and grinding beforehand??? I'm sorry I'm just not buying it. If you saw the lineup of performers (which has been online and on TV and everywhere else for the past how long?) then you knew it wasn't going to a clean show so tell your children to leave the room if your not comfortable with what COULD happen.

Beauty,
Other than Janet Jackson, I had not heard the line up beforehand. I didn't think for the Super Bowl I would have to!

Much ado about very little (pun intended).

JMO. And I don't buy for a second that it wasn't planned. I think it was staged, stupid and is having precisely its intended effect. I'm hearing that its a sexually agressive move, yada, yada; but in reality if both parties plan it and agree to it (I don't know about y'all, but I don't wear pasties under my clothing) then its not sexually agressive.

should be on HBO next year. I wasn't aware of the half time performers until the show started. The whole crotch grabbing rap crap and finale was disgusting.

But it was advertised all through the actual Super Bowl.....if you watched the Super Bowl itself you heard who was going to be performing and I don't think there is a parent in America who wouldn't think ""Uh-oh look at these performers this show is going to be questionable.""

Honestly I would have thought from the beginning that with Nelly and Kid Rock something was going to happen. Kid Rock is famous for being controversial. The fact that it was Justin and Janet who "shocked" the nation doesn't really matter but all of that aside, the actual line up of who was performing really should have been all the warning that parents of smaller children needed.

Again I do think it was in bad taste but not to the horrific point people are making it out to be.

Well if you thought the first part of the show was disgusting then you should have had it turned way before the SHOCKING ending.

assault? give me a break. objectification of women? yeah, but what are the cheerleaders that you see during all NFL games, including the superbowl.

another vote for no big deal here.

I just have to comment here. I happen to have been assaulted once in almost exactly this matter. No, I was not raped - but I was assaulted. A total stranger ripped my shirt off in a public place. I definately considered it assault. Get your definitions straight people - no one has claimed it was rape.

Yes, but when you were assulted, were you wearing pasties over your nipples?

Its not sexual assault when the whole thing is done for publicity and shock value. I think its insulting to you and people like you who really have been assaulted to compare this situation to real sexual agression and assault.

Come on now don't you think saying Janet is teaching girls that they have to pull stunts like this is alittle over the top and for some to call it an ASSUALT give me a break. It was an act that they both planned. Come on people this is not FANTASY ISLAND

Didn't personally offend me at all.

Fortunately, I also realize that my tastes are not the standard to which all others should be subjected.

It was out of line with what this society deems appropriate for the situation, and it was a violation of FCC rules.

Its indefensible and should not have happened. While I might not be personally shocked, its perfectly understandable why others would be.

Matt I agree with you, I can definatly see why people would be shocked but I can also see where they had ample opportunity to change the channel. The beginning of the show was in bad taste as well. At the first "Crotch Grab" the channel should have been changed. (Oh and I have to say that picture in your signature is absolutly GORGEOUS!)

Again I have to say if you have been open and honest with your kids and are raising them with morals and a understanding of whats right and wrong then they will KNOW that the stunt pulled last night will not give them the kind of attention they would want and they will know BETTER than to act like that.

Its all in the relationship between parents and their children. Whos to say what our kids are subjected to...whether it be hearing things from other children at school, or watching something we might not approve of at another childs house. The point is our children ARE going to be subjected to this kind of thing and the important thing is that WE AS PARENTS explain whats right and wrong to them. We have to give them morals and we have to explain what they are going to see and hear. The worst thing in the world IN MY OPINION is to hide your child away from the REAL WORLD and that includes all the Janet and Justin stunts that are out there.

I think it is incredibly amusing that both MTV, Janet and Justin are all apologizing when before the show MTV was touting that Janet's performance would hold some surprises. They all knew what she was doing. Who wears a metal pastie under a bra unless you are expecting for your chest to become exposed.

Here is a link to an article dated 1/27 where MTV announces there will be 'surprises'

http://et.tv.yahoo.com/tv/2004/01/27/laurenbush/

Something along these lines was on MTV's site early this morning, but I can't find it now.

I haven't read every response on this thread, but my impression is that people were upset that it was mimicing an act that would be considered assualt, and that was very distasteful to them - glorifying an act of violence. I agree.

Personally I think the best thing I could do as a parent is change the "REAL WORLD" to one where this kind of stunt would not be considered good entertainment.

I haven't seen very many people who thought it was good entertainment...I did like the music and I don't think its the big deal everyone makes it out to be but it was in bad taste.

The world is everchanging and will continue to be so. Lets go back to the open sex and drug useage of the 60s and 70s....turning into the big band era of the 80s(drugs, sex again) and the grunge of the 90s. No matter how hard anyone tries, the world isn't going to change to the point its all flowers and rainbows. I'm honestly not trying to offend anyone, I'm just saying that there will ALWAYS be this type of thing, or something just as bad in taste out there......you can't change the world overnight and it will never be changed enough to be perfect. The best thing is to TEACH your kids whats right and wrong so when they are subjected to things like that then they will think its in bad taste and not something THEY want to take part in.

I still also hold to the fact that the beginning of the show was in bad taste as well and with children in the room, the show should have been changed well before the end in thoughts that something else unclassy would happen.

I heard that the FCC is going to investigate. The NFL also said they are completely reevaluating the type of entertainment that will be presented in connection with the SuperBowl and who will provide the entertainment.

Janet Jackson is kind of odd (surprise!) She was on either Letterman or Leno not too long ago and was wearing something that covered up just about as much as was covered after the "reveal". She was sitting on the couch like that and feigning being upset that the host was staring at her and saying how she didn't understand why. Now, that was late night entetainment and lots of folks wear revealing outfits. I just didn't get the "coy" act going along with it. As if she didn't know what she was wearing.

Try all you want but I guarantee you when kids become teens they will look at this type of behavior as being over the top, old fashion and they won't give as much thought as some people have already.
