Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

LOL Christin, I was always afraid I'd do something like that. With all of the various replies it can get confusing! As for gaining weight, I snuck into the grocery store today and weighed myself and I've lost 1/2 lb so I'm hoping to be down the other 1 by next week.

Amy, those steaks marinated about 30 hours!!! Then ds and his wife came over last night for Tivo night (we tivo all of their shows for them). So dh & I ate the steaks and ds and his wife had shrimp and BBQ pork. Since I was eating my steak the BBQ didn't bother me. Its just when I'm hungry that it makes me really grouchy! I don't think those creamsavers would be enough to fight off my cravings; although, I haven't tried the carmel and chocolate ones yet - just the strawberry ones. Have you tried the Skinny Cows? More frozen chocolate lowfat desserts! Delicious!

Breakfast: 1 veggie burger, 2 strawberry waffles w/ marg & syrup, oj

Lunch: 1 chili & a handful of Bing cherries, green iced tea

Ooh, was your steak awesome? I bet it was!!!

I have had the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches. They are good. But let me tell ya about my ALL TIME favorite frozen treat. It is the Healthy Choice Caramel Ice Cream Sandwich. :lovestruc They are stupid expensive, and I only buy them when they are on sale (which isn't very often!). But they are worth every penny! Those kinds of things are great because they are portion-controlled. Check them out!

I like the chocolate-n-caramel creme savers the best. The other ones just don't compare. I'm such a food snob!

Don't worry, that extra lb will be off before you know it!

We do TiVo nights too! Isn't TiVo the best!?!

Glad to hear that 1/2 pound got sent packing! I totally agree with you on the Skinny Cows! They're amazing!!! I love the chocolate mint ones best!

How's the kitten? :cat:

Amy, I was looking at the Healthy Choice frozen desserts yesterday but didn't buy any. I decided to try the Nestle's double fudge bars. This is after months of only buying my grocery store brand of fudgesicles which have gotten boring. Next time I run out of fudgesicles I'll have to try them. I love caramel but since dh doesn't like it I never buy it. These can be for ME!

Hi Pearlique, the kitten is so cute! She did destroy my exercise ball - it was one of those big ones that you sit on. It used to set upon my cardio glider machine, so it was high. QT started climbing on top of the ball to play with the string hanging down from the fan. I would always get her down. Dh went up to her & moved the ball, she dug in her nails, the ball expoded!, and QT ended up on the floor. There went one life! Technically that was dh's fault for teasing the cat. Scared the heck out of all of us including the dog!

Finishing last nights food:
dinner: 1 bowl of chili & a glass of strawberry/kiwi juice

snack: 1 glass of strawberry kiwi juice

This a.m. woke up & hit the beach for a 9am walk. :cool1: Walked for 40 minutes plus jogged several times during the walk. It was like a steam bath there! I refuse to swim because of the red tide. Otherwise, I could walk 40 minutes and swim for 15 but NO WAY until this clears up. Afterwards did 25 minutes of yoga. (I'd rather be swimming.) Red tide has been here all summer.

Breakfast: 110 calories .75 fat grams
3 oz of tuna with 1 tsp of cocktail sauce w/extra horseradish & lots of pepper

We've been invited over to sil for pizza and game night tomorrow night. I'm planning my strategy to avoid over eating. Think I may take a lowfat snack like chilled shrimp or else eat before I go so I'm not starving. Both bil and sil are thin & in good shape so they don't need to worry about pizza!

Lunch: 240calories .75 fat grams,
same as lunch with cranberry juice added

snack: 240 calories 4 fat grams
4 fudgesicles

Dinner: 310 calories 7 fat grams
5 shrimp sauteed in olive oil with onions & green pepper, cranberry juice

Snack: 120 calories 2 fat grams
2 fudgesicles

Let's see if I can add correctly - 1020 calories 14.5 fat grams

Wow, you are doing great on your exercise! You'll be at your goal in no time! Don't you just hate the stress of social situations? I'm always worried about what I am going to be eating. I always have a plan, and only follow it about 25% of the time... :guilty:

Eating a healthy dinner before is a great idea! Maybe do that and have one piece of pizza. No harm done that way! What games do you play? I love Balderdash and Pictionary and Taboo.

Thanks Amy, I've been trying to increase my workouts. I was starting to get lazy. For tonight, I went to the grocery store & bought 1lb of precooked prepeeled shrimp. We'll take that with a bottle of white zin. Tonight, we're playing cards. Pictionary is fun - we haven't played that in ages. One of our favorites used to be Guesstures. See what happens when ya get old?!

Also while shopping, I bought the Healthy Choice Mocha/Fudge Bars. I almost bought the caramel ice cream sandwiches but they were made with vanilla ice cream. The mocha/fudge bars looked too good to pass up. In the meantime, I've still got a ton of regular fudgesicles to finish.

I did an extra weigh in today and lost the other pound. I'm now 160 again, so my clippie stays! Probably the heat from the beach evaporated all the water from my body! It was like a steamroom there yesterday. I'll have to do that every week.

Last night I had to have a midnight snack, at 9pm! 2 slices of toast with lowfat cheese.

12 fat grams for that snack!!! The bread alone had 2 fat grams apiece plus 4 cheese wedges at 2 apiece. 360 calories.
Total for yesterday 26.5 fat grams and 1380 calories

Today I woke up and did 50 minutes of circuit training.

Breakfast 1/4c raspberries & tuna with cocktail sauce.

Hi Jane!!!

I know it's been awhile since I"ve stopped by your journal...things have been a bit crazy here, but i wanted to pop in and say hello...see how you are doing, and wish you a WONDERFUL weekend! :) Here's hoping it's TWO GREAT WEIGHTLOSS DAYS!!! :teeth:

HAVE A GREAT ONE!
Jen :fish: ;)

Hmm, a midnight snack?!? The only time I sneak one of those in is when I've been partying... ;) At least those were GOOD fat grams! Better than Milk Duds!!!

How did your get-together go?

Jen, thanks for stopping by. You've been doing a great job on those mini goals! Congrats!

Amy, Taboo was the name of the game we always played not Guesstures! You can tell its been a long time! We had a great night out! We brought shrimp and white zin. We ate that before we ordered the pizza. Those who didn't want white zin drank Corona -dh's favorite! By the time we ordered the pizza I wasn't starving. I took from the medium pizza so the slices weren't big. (3 slices of Hawaiian) They did have a delicious fattening dessert which I couldn't resist. It had peanuts, peanut chips, choc chips etc. I did stop at one bar; in spite of the fact that they were left out all night.

Saturday:
breakfast: tuna w/cocktail sauce
lunch: mom took me out for lunch - had a veggie/fruit platter with chix salad
dinner: 6 cold shrimp w/ cocktail sauce, 3 potato chips & 3 Ritz w/ dip, 3
slices of Hawaiian pizza, 3 white zinfadels, 1 homemade peanut/choc
bar - Food was setting out all night so I did great for me.

Sunday: tuna w/cocktail sauce, 1 banana, cranberry juice

lunch: ds treated - took us out to a chix wing place 1 chix wing, 10
frenchfries, 1/2 coke -

dinner: split nachos w/ dh - we got takeout I was wornout & we watched some of our Tivo'd shows

Monday: 20 minutes of walking
breakfast: tuna w/cocktail sauce, 1 banana, oj
lunch: LC Sweet &Sour chix, cranberry juice
snack: sherbet
dinner: veggie burger w/bun, cranberry juice, 2 fudgesicles

Hey Jane! Just catching up...looks like you had a good week! Great strategy with the shrimp. I'm gearing up for more than a couple back to school gatherings, so I need to start thinking about how I'm going to negotiate all of the terrible food that will be passed around.

Now I have to go out and buy some Skinny Cows, STAT! ;) BTW- the Carb Smart Breyer's bars are TERRIBLE! Stick with the good stuff ;)

Have a great day!

You did great at your party! I know it is such a challenge when something so yummy is left out, just tempting you to take another one. You conquered it, WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!

I am getting heartburn reading about all your tuna for breakfast. For some reason I can't eat tuna anymore, isn't that weird? It stinks because I love tuna and it is so high in protein and filling! Maybe I could try taking one of those heartburn medicines before...

Christin, thanks for the warning about Breyers bars. I love Breyers Ice Cream its too bad their bars aren't better. Enjoy your Skinny Cows!

Amy, thats too bad about the heartburn. I just love the fact that your tacos, margaritas, chips & dip are fine - but the "healthy" tuna causes heartburn. Our stomachs have a mind of their own. I remember once I ate two mini crabcakes so I wouldn't eat a whole plate of lasagna and ended up with a horrible stomach ache all night.

I've been filling in extra at my every other weekend job. They need to hire a fulltime coordinator but they haven't. I'm filling in an extra three days this week and next week. It'll help pay for my next Disney Trip. Anyway, our business at home is s-l-o-w in the summer so its not a problem.

Workout today was a 25 minute weight workout.

Breakfast: tuna, 1/3 of a peach, oj

Lunch: LC thai chix, Smart One's Choc Cake

Snack: SO choc cake

Dinner: Cheese pizza, cranberry juice ( we ended up having unexpected company - so I ordered pizza)

This weekend I went to a garage sale and bought the Total Gym 1000 for $15. It didn't come with any instructions or video so I have to wing it. Its set up in one of the bedrooms and I used it today along with my free weights. I've got to watch the Informercial for some more exercises; although that one is an upgraded version of mine. Additionally, I like it for doing my free weight flys on. On ds weight bench I have to lay on it backwards and I'm crunched when I'm doing my exercises.

Yesterday I forgot to say that I weighed in. I was 159.999 - I've finally made it to the 150s!!! I'll take what I can get! (It was just a smidge under the 160 mark.)

30 minutes of pilates

tuna with cocktail sauce, 6 cherries

Congratulations Jane! 150's have to feel really good!! :cool1:

I've been reading some past posts and the peach salsa sounds yummy. Do you make it or buy it??

Good luck with the Total Gym. Maybe you can post something on the WISH board and someone can get you a copy of instructions (if you need them).

Have a great day!! :flower:

Congrats on entering the 150's!!!!!! That is SO COOL!!! :cool1:

I like Cindy's suggestion about posting on the WISH board for exercises. Maybe even search the web.

Funny you mentioned crab. I was on a month long biz trip to Maryland a couple years ago and the crab cakes were  However, I noticed something would give me the most killer heartburn every time I ate (I'm talking to the point I would throw up). It took about a week of eating crab cakes (and eliminating other things like cocktail sauce, portabello mushrooms, etc) before I realized it was the crab! Sometimes it's like Mother Nature is working against me. Why can't I be allergic to cheesecake and ice cream, then I wouldn't have to lose any weight!!!!!

You're doing great, keep it up!

Crusin'minnie, thats a good idea about the Total Gym. I may even do a search of Total Gym and see what I come up with. Thanks. I buy my peach salsa. It was so good - not too sweet - great for veggie burgers.

Amy, with the crab cakes I've found since that if I eat a salad and have some bread BEFORE the crab I'm fine. We were going out for a big Italian dinner one night with some friends at 8pm. Dh and I decided to run over to our favorite seafood restaurant at 4pm so we wouldn't be starving. I ordered a white zin and crabcake appetizer. I had the worst stomachache all night. At the restaurant our friends were ordering pizza, lasagna, pasta etc. I ended up sipping on a coke all night. I was puzzled because I had ordered a crab cake dinner before and didn't have problems. It was something about the crab cakes on my empty stomach. I don't order them very often but when I do I make sure to eat something else first.

lunch: tuna, cocktail sauce, cranberry juice

snack: we had a birthday at work - 1 slice of cake (and I took sherbet to work for my snack - didn't touch it.), oj

At work, a coworker commented to me today that she noticed I'd lost weight. I told her I'd lost 20lbs. Then she floored me. She said - "well you weren't fat to begin with." I sure felt fat!! She said she thought I'd lost it because of my back problems. I said that was part of it - but mainly I felt I needed to lose the weight. Then another coworker who has known me for about 5 years - said "its gonna be alot harder to lose this time" - because she remembers when I was a size 8. After I lost my weight the first time she dropped about 30lbs when I gained back my weight. Now, I'm losing & she's gaining. She knows how I feel because she's been going thru the same thing. We ended up having a big discussion on weight, exercise, eating, dieting etc. I got some good ideas though! (One coworker didn't think I needed to lose weight & the other one KNEW I need to lose about 25 more lbs.) After all of this I've decided to get a jumprope because one skinny coworker swears by it!

Yay for you! That is so nice to get compliments like that. Boo for co-worker #2 for trying to dampen your spirits. Just because she is having a hard time losing doesn't mean you will!!!

More power to you for the jumprope. It is an excellent workout! However, there are not too many things I dislike more. Maybe going to the dentist for a root canal with no anesthesia. Or slamming every appendage in a car door. :teeth:

It is so weird when people comment on your weight. One of my neighbours commented on my weight loss and although I felt good because I did need to lose weight, I still felt weird that SHE thought I needed to lose weight. Am I living in denial or what?????? Then this morning one of the moms from the figure skating club my kids are in stopped by. I had not seen her since March and she looks to me like if she lost weight. I did not know if I should say something or if it would offend her that I was implying she needed to lose weight to begin with. How complicated. It is just so hard to even mention weight with people. I am just trying to say "You look good." Then they can take it as they want!
So, you eat tuna for breakfast every day? We are going to the beach this week and I can't wait for fresh seafood!!!! Broiled of course! :flower:

Amy, thats how I feel about jump rope. She suggested just trying to jump 5 jumps, then 10 jumps etc. She advised me not to try for minutes. I think I'm going to add it in with circuit training. (Starting out at 5 jumps after each set.) She claimed that jumping rope toned her up. She looks great in lowrisers! I wouldn't even wear those when I was a size 8! I just know I can't do it for long though.

Calena, it can be so difficult to decide what to say when people lose weight. I know when people have noticed I always feel complimented. I didn't feel offended by either coworker - especially the one who was telling me what a hard time I'd have this time! LOL! Just the encouragement I need. I knew she meant well because she's been thru it. Her sister is very thin & she's struggled with 30lbs off and on. I think I'm sick of tuna for awhile. I thought about it today & decided NO WAY! Have fun at the beach with real seafood!

breakfast: 1 bowl Blueberry Morning Cereal, OJ

lunch: LC turkey dinner, cranberry juice,1 mocha bar

snack: 1 mocha bar

dinner: asian pork with asian cole slaw, 3 slices of sourdough bread/butter, 2 cosmos - Dh & I split one dinner.

Dh & I went out for dinner tonight to Stonewood Grill. The food was so good. The pork is just a little spicy. The slaw has NO mayo - lots of sliced veggies - I even tasted ginger.

I took my mom shopping today. I ended up buying another exercise ball at Marshalls. My first one was top of the line from my physical therapist. This one I'm sure isn't as big - it also included a dvd plus a pump. It came to $12.99 - I hope it works as well as my first ball did. I also bought a jump rope for $2.99 - I'm going to use this sparingly and carefully!

Lost another 1/4 of a pound and even changed my siggie! 159.5!! And I used to mock the others who used decimals!

My chix is marinating in salsa, garlic salt and pepper for dinner tomorrow. I decided to grill in case we lose electric. One storm we lost electric for several days. Its miserable without air conditioning here. I'm a bit nervous about the hurricane. They never know for sure where they'll hit. Last year we thought we'd be a direct hit and instead Punta Gorda got it. Many people (including my neighbors went inland to avoid the hurricane only to run smack dab into it). Thats why I stay put.

35 minutes of walking & 5 jumps on my jump rope!

9pm snack of 1 slice of toast and lowfat cheese
