Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

Congratulations on the 20lb clippie!

Have a good day! :cheer2:

Have a good day.

I understand about those sundaes. Fudge, ice cream, have to watch that stuff!! LOL :sunny:

Whew, I've been so busy lately. I haven't had time to get on the computer.

Julie, thanks for stopping by. My hot fudge is gone, so there won't be any more sundaes! No matter how old I get I guess I'll always be a chocoholic.

Christin, glad you found the website for cool running. They have great advice and support. I've always wanted to run in the Disney 1/2 marathon but could never get my miles up. I ended up being able to run about 4 miles before I got heel spurs. In between my running days I walked & walked & walked and just overdid it. I still have to be very careful with my feet. By the way, I've never been to Artists Point or Flying Fish but dh loved Bomas. Usually, we don't like buffets either. I was almost going to have our anniversary meal at Jiko instead but decided to go for V&As. It was wonderful!

Calena, the tilapia I made the other day was on sale & came with a cajun rub & cooking instructions. I baked it in the oven at 375.
However, I have another tilapia recipe that I pan fry for 3 minutes on each side. I coat the fish with flour and seasoning salt in a ziplock bag while the pan is preheating. I make sure the pan is hot. Then, I panfry the fish for 3 minutes on each side. After that I take the fish out & add 1T of butter, 1 tsp flour, 1/4 c white wine & juice of one lemon for about 1 or 2 minutes until it thickens. I add a couple T of Italian parsley & serve it over the fish. I love your charm bracelet idea! My dh doesn't wear his ring either. He almost lost his finger doing repair work on gas appliances, so off came the ring.

Amy, thanks for your congrats on my clippie. I finally made it! How's your weather out there? Dh's nephew came to visit. They were thinking of moving to AZ but we think they've decided to come to FLA instead. They loved everything about AZ but didn't think they would have success with their own business there. We'll be finding out in a few days where they are relocating to.

Z, thanks for your encouraging words.

Kate, thanks for stopping by. I love your Oahu pic!

I don't even remember where I left off. Usually I work every other weekend with my Alzheimer residents & during the week at our home business. This week I was called in to work on Monday & Tuesday. When I get off work from there I'm worn out. They keep the facility warmer than I like because most of the residents get cold so easily. By the time I get home I'm worn out from doing all kinds of activities with them. No matter how hot it is they all want to go outside after lunch. Some of them will even wear sweaters outside.

I left off on August 8th
lunch: leftover hotdog
dinner: we went out for a birthday party - dh & I split the lobster pizza & he ordered an appetizer of scallops with mushrooms on bread in a Japanese terriaki sauce. (I ate 1/2 the bread.) I also had several slices of pizza & 2 glasses of white zin. Some of the other poeple got steamed calms & other seafood dishes - I didn't try any but dh did! I also had one bite of key lime pie. We had a great time seeing everyone. We were at the restaurant almost 2 1/2 hours. Afterwards I came home and had a hot fudge sundae.

Tuesday:
breakfast 1C of fresh pineapple, strawberries & blueberries
lunch: 1 hotdog
snack: 1 rice crispie treat & 1 homemade raisin/oatmeal cookie
dinner: 1 hotdogs & baked beans

Wednesday a neighbor invited me to go out for lunch. - Bad idea for me. We ended up going out for pizza, so I skipped breakfast knowing we were eating out. We also went to the movies, seeing the first showing of Mr & Mrs. Smith -after 90minutes we walked out. I got bored with all of the explosions, gunfire & fighting.

lunch: 3 slices of cheese pizza
snack at movies: small box of milk duds
dinner: 3 slices of leftover cheese pizza, peach/mango juice
snack: peach mango juice & pne handful of Cinnabon popcorn

DS & his wife came over for movie watching night at 6pm. I had eaten my dinner at 4:30pm. Dh grilled the other package of hotdogs (I didn't have any.) and they finished up the rest of the baked beans. For dessert they had the cinnabon popcorn - I ate one handful.

This morning I woke up and did my 60 minute workout of cardio, light weights & step. I also got some housework done. Its after 12 and I haven't eaten breakfast yet.

WHAT?!?! You walked out on Brad Pitt???????? :faint: Have you seen A River Runs Through It? That is when my Brad obsession started. He and I have the same birthday, it must be fate! Now I just have to actually meet him and make him aware of that fact... ;)

Keep up the exercising, you are 1/3 of the way to your goal, good for you!!

Amy, its not the FIRST time, that I've walked on a Brad Pitt movie. About 4 years ago, we went to see The Mexican with another couple. After about 40 minutes, I couldn't stand it anymore & told dh and the other couple I was going out into the mall to shop. 15 minutes later dh showed up, 10 minutes after that the other couple joined us. That movie was 'the pitts'. (I should be shot for that pun!) You can't complain that he's not in the entertainment news enough! You've probably got enough Brad reading material to last the next decade. I feel so bad for Jennifer though. She's had it really rough.

skipped breakfast
lunch: 2 waffles with margarine and syrup, 1/2c blueberries
snack: 2 more waffles
dinner: lime shrimp with rice

At the grocery store they had Margarittaville lime shrimp on sale - 2 for 1. It comes uncooked frozen - I had to saute it - I added 1/4c of a vidalia onion & some roasted red pepper from a jar to it. THen I micro'd Zatarain's New Orleans style yellow rice to go with it. It took me about 10 minutes to make dinner.

I tried the Microdermabrasion stuff again. I found it to be much better if I use it in the shower. I guess the water softens the crystals on my face - which didn't happen when I just washed my face with it before. The crystals didn't bother me this time - I just have to go very gently over my face. I've used it twice more and guess I'll finish the tube. I still like the Glycolic peel better.

That lime shrimp sounds yummy! I'll have to look for it in the store!

I have to say I prefer Brad Pitt old school to Brad Pitt new school. I haven't seen Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and I'm really not in any hurry either, especially after your review :) I get tired of guns and explosions too.

Have a great Friday!

Christin, the best thing about the lime shrimp dish is how quickly it takes to fix it! Dh already let me know he wants more next week.

Yesterday, I decided I could no longer stand our bathroom. It was decorated back in 1966. It comes complete with pink wall paper with gold flex, pink tub, sink, toilet & countertop. Yesterday I took out all of the wall paper. Then I started scraping the ceiling where someone had previously painted & it bubbled. I had paint flex all over me. I sure hope its not lead! I did all of this without telling dh. When we talked on the phone he about had a fit. However, when he got home & saw all the work I had saved him - he was a little happier. He took out the towel bars & medicine cabinet for me. Today, I went to the paint store & bought a fennel green paint (very light green) and a primer coat. I'm hoping if I do a lot of the prepping that dh can paint it. I wanted to buy a new medicine cabinet & checked at Home Depot but none of the new ones match our measurements.

breakfast: 1 tomato basil burger bunless

lunch: split a meal out to eat with my mom - 1/2 reuben, 1/2 fruit salad & 1/2 peanut butter pie

snack: We ate at 11am and by 2:30 I was hungry. I ate a hotdog &fudgesicle

I guess that I should have a snack for dinner since I had dinner for a snack.

Did 20 minutes of walking and 10 minutes of yoga.

I've really been getting the munchies lately.
Yesterday snack for dinner: cheese slices, peach mango juice

late snack: 2 slices of toast & peach mango juice

A friend of dh's came over the other night & loves my peach mango juice. He's going to start buying it now!

Today:
breakfast: 1 tomato basil burger bunless, oj

snack: homemade choc chip cookies 2 - I'm lucky I didn't eat 5!!! They had'em at work again. They're just too good.

lunch: LC dijon chix dinner w/ green beans, oj

snack: 2 chedder cheese slices, peach mango juice

I just want to eat nachos and hot fudge sundaes lately!

I have a weakness for nachos too...and living in TX doesn't help. ;)

Great work on the bathroom! I love projects like that; you can always see your progress so there's no delayed gratification.

Do you make your own tomato basil burgers for breakfast? I have to be better about eating protein for breakfast, but eggs and typicaly breakfast meats tend to make me nauseous...so I usually end up with peanut butter. I'd love to have an alternative.

Have a good weekend!

I don't know Jane, I am still devastated that you walked out on not only ONE, but TWO Brad Pitt movies!!! I guess I just won't invite you to our $1 million wedding in Fiji... ;)

I hear ya on the munchies! I lost my mind today and ate 6, yes, that is 1/2 dozen, heath bar cookies... But that's OK because I made up for it by not working out...

I hope your munchies go away soon! Hang in there, they will be gone before you know it.

I bought some Tilapia yesterday. Will probably cook it on the bbq wrapped in foil with some seasoning and bit of olive oil. We will see. I love fish but I am so lousy at cooking it!
I love nachos too! Who doesn't? ;) I just refuse to buy them right now because I am seeing my weight shift so I want it to keep going!

You seem to be doing pretty good there calena!!!! Keep up the good work - you've got some off for this month and that's a good thing.

And I'm NOT a big nachos lover. Just from one place here and town and I wouldn't even call them nachos because they are definitely a meal!!!! :)

Keep on
Chris

Jane-- That was so brave of you to undertake that project on your own! Congrats on getting so much done. I love light green -- we just did our entry way a pale sage, our living room is a beige and our powder room is pina colada :) So glad your DH was able to appreciate your effort.

Keep up the great work with your food choices. I love the idea of a bunless burger for breakfast -- one of my favorites! But, I can't even let my family order a nacho appetizer yet because I have no willpower to face it. Tilapia, however, is a passion of mine. At a restaurant last weekend, they prepared it with roasted garlic pan gravy -- I think they broiled it with roasted garlic and then poured the pan gravy over the tilapia -- it was to die for. Lime shrimp is really sounding delish right now, too!

Have a great evening, Jane! :grouphug:

I'm glad to see that I'm not alone on the nachos! I love tex mex. Yum!Thanks for the support with my diet & workouts!

Christin, the tomato basil burgers I get are veggie burgers They're made by Morningstar Farms. Another favorite of mine are the bean burgers. I love fixing them with peach salsa!

Amy, LOL about brad and the cookies/no workout. Now, don't try and tell me that you liked either of those movies; although, Mr & Mrs Smith wasn't nearly as bad as The Mexican.

Calena, let me know how your tilapia turns out. I'm always looking for new recipes.

Cam, I have to laugh at the names of some of the paint. Our livingroom, hallway & entry way are garbanzo bean!! Its like a dark beige. Our pink powder room will now be fennel. If I like it I may use it in my bedroom too. I've never heard of pina colada though! That sounds like an interesting color.
I've got all the wallpaper off as well as the bubbling ceiling paint all scraped off. Dh's friend is coming over tomorrow to sand, prime & paint. I can't wait to get it finished. 5 years of 1960s pink is too long - especially for the boys bathroom! Believe me its all PINK! Ugh!

We had a busy weekend. Saturday after work I had a concert to go to. It was a 'golden oldies' concert in a nearby town. We saw Mark Lindsay who was the lead singer for Paul Revere and the RAiders (Cherokee Nation). Opening for them was another group featuring a singer who was in Sam, the Sham & the Pharohs. Both groups were excellent. We had great seats right up front. Originally there was only one show, in the afternoon. However, they opened up a second show at 8pm which I didn't know about. When I picked up our tix we were scheduled for the 8pm show. I was so thankful. They said the 4pm show was not nearly as good. When bil and sil heard we were going they decided to join us. Afterward we went out to an Irish PUb with a really awesome rock n roll band. We didn't make it home until 1am.

Saturday:
breakfast: 1 tomato basil burger
snack: peach mango juice
lunch: LC chix, fudgesicle
snack: Smart ONe's key lime pie, peach mango juice
dinner: We ate after the show - dh and I split quessadillas - also had 3 white zinfadels.

Sunday:
breakfast: 1 tomato basil burger, oj
lunch: LC chix dinner, Smart ONe's carrot cake, oj
snack: You don't want to know - a BIG symphony choc bar!!!!
dinner: We went out for nachos & I had two Long Island Iced Teas

Very stressful weekend. One of our residents died - he didn't really have other family & he'd been there for several years. He also didn't have alzheimers - so he's one of the few residents I have that knew me. Just as I brought a church deacon & wife to pray for him - he'd just died one minute before. Our administrator & hospice caretaker had been sitting with him. Everyone was crying but I couldn't cry because I had a whole roomful of residents to entertain. However, when I got home I was stressing. We knew that he was probably going to die this weekend. I was sad because I had talked with him when I worked on Tuesday. By the time I returned on Saturday he was no longer conscious. Sunday I took my cd player in his room in the afternoon, along with a Sinatra cd & his caretaker played it for him. He always loved Sinatra.

Today I woke up bright & early, did a 60 minute workout with weights, walking & jogging.

breakfast: tomato basil burger bunless as always
snack: 1/2 of a fruit bar, apple juice
lunch: LC cabbage roll
snack: birthday cake from work -we celebrated a residents birthday today, peachaide
dinner: LC sweet & sour chix, carrot cake, oj
snack: fudgesicle

I've gotta concentrate and get back on my game plan!!

I am so sorry to hear about your resident. That is very sad news. Hang in there

Don't worry about your chocolate bar, I'm sure all the alcohol in the Long Island Ice Teas dissolved it in no time flat!! ;)

You are still doing great and you are living proof that you can have a couple drinks/snacks and still get the job done!

As for my honey Brad :lovestruc , I have not yet seen Mr. & Mrs. Smith (DB apparently does not share my obsession with Mr. Pitt). It's been a long time since I've seen the Mexican so I don't remember if I liked it or not... :teeth:

Amy, LOL, I think you're right about those Long Islands! I should probably drink'em more often! I'd probably already be in the 150's if I'd throught of that earlier. Thanks for your condolences. I've done activities with Alzheimer patients part time for the past 12 years. I usually love my job, but every once in awhile it gets stressful.

I gained 1.5 lbs but I'm not changing my clippie because I will lose the weight this week. I said to Dh - guess I shouldn't have had the nachos and Long Islands & he said - "It was all the hot fudge sundaes & chocolate!"

Did 35 minutes of aerobics & 10 minutes of yoga.

Breakfast: 1 banana, oj

Lunch: HOT HOT chili. Ouch! I used 2 habanaros (removed seeds from 1), 2 jalapenos & regular old green pepper. I got the oil from the hot peppers on my hand and touched the skin on my throat. It burned for about an hour and turned red. Dh said no more habanaros! Also oj and 1 scoop of orange sherbet for dessert.)

snack: mini bowl of chili

dinner: As I write this I'm marinating steak for cooking out on the grill tonight. I also have canned asparagus - forgot to buy fresh.

Don't sweat the 1.5...we have to expect fluctuations, now and then, right? Thanks for the tip about the Morningstar burgers...I'll check my grocery next time I'm there.

I burned my fingers cutting fresh jalapenos one time, so I hear you. I've never worked up the courage for habanaros after that! Now I'm hungry for fresh salsa...I might have to remedy that soon. :)

Hope you enjoyed your steak!

Christin, at my grocery store they're in with the frozen foods - in between the Hot Pockets & Lean Cusines. Homemade salsa sounds wonderful - if you have any good recipes do tell! I've never made homemade salsa. We go to one Mexican restaurant where its made fresh & its sooo good.

Last night we didn't get to cook the steaks. Dh had a friend over to paint the bathroom. He sanded & primed the walls. Therefore, we decided not to have the steaks since we only had two. We ended up having chilled shrimp with cocktail sauce & the cooked lime shrimp with rice pilaf.

I forgot to add that at 9pm I had 2 slices of peanut butter toast.

I hope dh gets home on time tonight to grill those steaks.

30 minute circuit training weight workout.

Breakfast: 1 banana, oj, and HOT spicy chili

Lunch: green iced tea & chili -

Snack: I started having cravings and wanted chocolate candy. I decided to eat my fudgesicles. I ate 4. With this particular brand that is 6.0 fat grams. I change around the brands every once in awhile so I don't get bored with it. Each brand does taste diffently. A lot better than a box of Milk Duds! Plus my cravings went away. I've just got to figure out how to deal with these battles instead of giving in. Today it worked!

Dinner: Steak & Asparagus, grape juice

Mmm, have those steaks been marinating the whole time? They are going to be SO good!!!!!!

I will have to try Fudgesicles for my chocolate cravings. I have been eating those Chocolate-n-Caramel Creme Savers, a couple of those really take the edge off. Yes, look at all the Fudgesicles you can have instead of Milk Duds! You could probably eat 10 of them and still be under in fat and cal... So that was a GREAT substitution, good job!!!!

I just read back from when I posted last and realized I called you calena - I'm sorry to both of you - she posted just before me and I got myself confused - I'm so sorry and very embarrassed!!!!

Sorry to hear about your resident. And sorry to hear about your 1.5 pound gain but you are like me - I knew I'd lose at least some of it before the end of this week and when I had lost 1 pound of it then I went ahead and broke down and changed my numbers. But at least I didn't have to give my clippie back - I just want the next one!!! LOL

Keep up the good work!
Keep on
Chris
