Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

You will have a great Easter gathering! I'm with you - I was fine until I busted open the bag of jelly beans. It's been downhill ever since...

But tomorrow we will get back on track! Any leftover goodies will be taken to work and not find their way into our bellies! :cheer2:

Have a great week Jane!!! Keep up the good work!!!
(can you send some leftovers my way....I love holiday leftovers!!! Ham sandwiches....yummm!!!)

Hope you had a great Easter!!!

Well Murphy decided to pay us a visit yesterday! :charac2: What can go wrong did! It all started out with dh waiting until yesterday to put up the bamboo blinds in the kitchen. I knew that would set us back. It took him 2 hours - hours that could have been used to get ready for the dinner. Before that he was washing the outdoor windows that I didn't do in our side yard! LIke I need that done now.

Then I cut myself - don't know how - didn't feel a thing - just looked down and blood was spurting from my finger. Next, our Tivo went out - we couldn't change the channels. Tivo thought we were changing channels - but the tv stayed on the same channel. In fact, two programs that we had tivo'd weren't. The Tivo stayed on channel 7. Instead of Surreal Life - I had Sunday mass on Tivo! :badpc: We spent 20 minutes messing with that. We went into the parental control section thinking that had somehow turned on. We also restarted the tivo - nothing worked. We finally selected the plain old tv switch so we could use the tv remote if we needed to.

Of course dh was late getting ready since he spent so much time on the blinds, tv and windows. So as the guests arrived he had just finished showering. Everyone bolts thru the front door at once - I swear! Except for two of the guests -everyone else got there within 5 minutes of each other. I am left to face the guests, offer drinks, try to finish setting up the drink table (which is dh's job) and finish making my sauce for the ham. Believe me that first 15 minutes can make or break a party & I just felt like I was getting further behind. He came strolling out 15 minutes after everyone was there. GRRRR! :furious:

Then right before the food is ready we lost a circuit. We couldn't use the microwave in the kitchen, no lights in the diningroom & no electric at all in our office which is adjacent to the diningroom. Dh flipped the circuit & no electric. Then he spent about 15 minutes working on that while I was trying to figure out with our guests how to slice a spiral ham.

After that Murphy left & things improved. I'd made a ham sauce recipe that included crushed pinapple, apricot preserves, horseradish etc. It made a huge serving. Since I was in a hurry I put it in a big serving dish & let everyone know what it was & that it was spicy. Of course, dh was in and out of the room working on the circuit breaker. When he saw the serving dish he thought it was creamed corn & ladled loads of it on his dish! LMAO!!!! :rotfl: That just goes to prove that he never listens to me!

People at parties are definately in two camps: the people who must have dessert now! AND the people who want to wait at least one hour. Dh & I are in the second group. Even as some people were still eating their main dish a few people were asking for dessert. So, we set up the desserts, gave everyone a choice of what they wanted to do and we played cards! Most of us played cards but several picked dessert and the golf game on TV. If people would wait an hour they wouldn't get that awful full feeling. I noticed that the people who ate dessert right away all became lethargic.

The very first thing I did today was call an electric company to come over. Happily, one of the repairmen got done with a job ahead of schedule. He came over, flipped the circuit, and it worked!!! Dh was not happy with that one! Anyway it was our fault the circuit went. About 6 months ago we put in a built in microwave. Somehow it was on the same circuit as the diningroom and office. When we had the microwave on, the vent (which is thru the micro), the lights & computer - the circuit overloaded. The electric guy gave it its own circuit. (Thank God it was not on the same circuit as our gas stove. We never lost the stove!!! Phew!! And the micro is right over the stove.)

After dinner was over we mentioned the tivo to dh. He looked at something, moved a switch & it worked. The cat had somehow moved that switch.

Kate, Happy Easter to you, too! :wave2:

Amy, I'm still not back on track yet but I will be! By Wednesday the candy stuff should all be gone!

Marie, I actually gave out most of the leftovers. Out of sight - out of mind! Unfortunately, we still have too much candy!

WOW, that is an Easter to remember! I'm glad everything worked out OK, and just think - you can always talk about it at future gatherings! :goodvibes

I don't think I'd survive if my TiVo went out! I have become a TiVo junkie...

I fall into the "dessert now" category. I just have to get that dinner taste out of my mouth!

You will get back on track this week, don't worry! Send all the candy to work with DH. That is my new solution!

Wow Jane...sounds like a hectic day!! That's why I try not to host to many gatherings! My in-laws come for T-Giving, but we usually just throw steaks on the grill...they love it!!
Have a great week....you deserve it!!

marie

Hi Jane!

Sounds like a crazy, hectic, busy but fun Easter for you!

Hope your finger is ok.

I also have a DH who never listens :rotfl: Too funny about him and the sauce.

Here's to doing better now that the candy and holiday food is gone!!

Jane, where are you? It's not like you to miss 2 days in a row! I hope everything is OK. :goodvibes

JANE.....JJJJJAAAANNNNNEEEEEE!!!!!! :confused3
hhhmmmm.....maybe sven is at her place tonight....

Jane....Sven.....Bob......???

Maybe she found the bag of caramels and refuses to talk to us because of the guilt she feels.....it's ok Jane....we still love you....come on home....we can work this out.....

Its so good to be back! I want my routine! I want my workouts! We were out of town for business, and I'm worn out. I don't even remember all the stuff I ate except it was not BFL approved.

Last night we had the family over for a late dinner/TV night. We brought home curry - medium. WHEW!! That stuff is HOT!!! I'm used to jalapenos and habanaros - but this stuff about did me in. Thank God for white rice. I have no idea whats in it - but it is good.

Today I skipped breakfast. Ds, the younger, and I spent some time together this afternoon. I took him out to his favorite place for burgers and milkshakes. They were delicious, and we got to spend some time talking together. Its getting more difficult to make time for each other. They sure grow up fast!

I did do 25 minutes worth of jog/walks yesterday. Today I did 25 minutes of full body free weights. Tomorrow I want to do either biking or walking.

Last week during my Spring Cleaning Fling I woke up one morning with sore biceps. It surprised me because I hadn't done any weights that week - guess the mop bucket'll do that to ya! So while I did not do any workouts - I know my arms are still in killer shape!

The other day I asked dh for one of my caramels and he claimed to have forgotten where he put it. Thats my guy!!! :dancer: I'm reallly thankful he did that - wish he'd just give them away to someone before I come across them accidentally.

This month I've lost control - gotta take back my control!!! I'm learning how to deal with temptation without giving up!

Amy, we get so lost when something happens to our tivo. I don't know what we did without it. I'm definately not any good at setting video recorders. - This was a busy week. Its great to be home again!

Marie, steaks on the grill sound delicious! What a great idea! I kind of wanted to do chicken fajitas for Easter but was afraid the family would have fit.

Kate, how was your Easter? Its been a crazy month with sugar, cake & sweets. Can't wait to get back to a healthy lifestyle.

I did go grocery shopping today so there's lots of healthy food in the house.

I

Yay, I'm glad you're back! :Pinkbounc :cool1: :yay: We were lost without ya!

Traveling really does get you all out of whack! But you are back to a good start with working out already and getting the house stocked with healthy choices! :cheer2:

Maybe DH ate all your caramels... :rotfl:

I say if you want fajitas for Easter next year, make them! You are the hostess, you can do what you want! You will not be struck down if you don't make boring ole ham for dinner...

ITA!!! That's why the in-laws come here for T-giving....they know they can count on me for a real good meal..not the typical one!
You are doing really good w/ your food and your exercise...sounds like you are well on your way to being back on track!

marie

Hi Jane,

I agree, the chicken fajitas for Easter sounds like a real good switch. We went to my parents house and had the same old ham. That's ok because my kids like it, but nothing wrong with shaking things up a bit!

So you're motivated to get back in the exercise/weight loss groove? :teeth:

Good luck, I hope all of us do well in the coming weeks and months.

Have a good weekend! :sunny:

Yesterday I had a real BFL dinner - chicken fajitas w/onions & peppers. Mine were without cheese but later while making one for ds I grabbed a couple bites of some of his cheese. I love shredded sharp cheddar.

Today I did walk/jogs for 30 minutes :yay: .

#1 protein shake & 1/2 apple
#2 chicken salad on a tortilla
(I used the recipe for turkey salad w/curry, almonds, raisins etc. It was very good. I substitued Miracle Whip and nonfat sour cream for the yogurt.

Amy, thank you for the warm welcome! Dh would never eat my caramels - he hates them. He won't even eat my Milk Duds in the movie theater. Now Reese's Pieces are a totally different story. Thankfully, they're not one of my favorites.

Thanks Marie. I don't know about being on track yet but I'm trying to concentrate on the little things (like getting in my workout each day). Tonight we're having pizza, champagne & hot fudge sundaes for ds birthday. All three of those are a huge temptation for me.

Kate, thank God another week is coming up. Hopefully I'll get on track tomorrow, stick with my protein drinks & bars, and stay on track until Monday.

No caramels Jane! They've gone where all candy goes when it misbehaves and tempts us!

Hope you have a good weekend!

This weekend was one eating fest after another. Both days, I ate well until 3pm and then it went down from there. Pizza, chicken wings, hot fudge sundaes, homemade chocolate chip cookies, nachos, & champagne. (Just to name a few.) Scary, scary! The scary part is I was just so out of control. I couldn't reign myself in. Now, I don't want to weigh in tomorrow. Its been like this all darn month! No excuses!

Last night I started drinking lemon water before going to sleep. First thing this morning I continued with it. Then I had about 1/2T of habanaro sauce. (Its kind of like the Master Cleanse thing.) Next I'm going to have some apple cider vinegar in oj.

Today I did a 45 minute fast walk. I really need to increase my workout times from the puny 30 minutes I've been doing lately.

Hey Goldcupmom, :rotfl2: just as long as I don't go there too when I misbehave!

Wow, when you splurge you don't mess around! You knew this month was going to be tough, but I bet you didn't do as much damage as you think. Now all the parties and Easter are done, and there are no major candy holidays coming up for a while. You can get back on track, starting today! And at least if you do gain, you got some joy out of it - I've been gaining and not even getting to eat any goodies! :rolleyes2

I don't know how you can drink that habanero sauce!

I hope you were able to get back on track today. It's so hard when all the good food is around.

Wow, the food binge sounds yummy, but I know you'll get back in gear here soon. :goodvibes

Hope this week goes well for you! :sunny:

What a day. :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: I knew this weigh in was not going to be good. 151 :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Its just I hate being back in the 150s again!

We had a meeting with our accountant. I always hate that! Good thing he's good with numbers 'cuz we're not! I could have killed dh today. We'd been up since 6am working on our computer program - when we finished that I started in on housework. About 30 minutes before the accountant is due - dh says he's going to shower. By the time he showers I'm getting ready to get in and get my shower when the accountant arrives. Dh was in the kitchen with me when dh says that the accountant is here. I thought he was going to answer the door & allow me to gracefully slink hidden thru the family room to our bedroom as he let in the accountant. Nope, he went into the bedroom & closed the door. He's fully dressed!! I don't know why he had to close the door. I, on the other hand, had not had a shower, was wearing my old, inside workout/housework clothes, and had on no bra. I couldn't believe dh left me like that. Then I had to walk by the front door so the accountant could see me. I answered it & let him in. I looked horrible. I felt so humiliated. When I questioned dh about it later he said, "I couldn't answer the door - I didn't have my shoes on yet." :furious: Shoes!!! I snapped back "I didn't have on my bra!" And ds overheard and cracked up! AAACCCKKK!!!!!

Yesterdays food was an improvement
#1 protein shake
#2 turkey wrap w/honeydew melon and strawberries
#3 1/4 of a steak quesadilla, lf cheese, dish of cookies & cream ice cream
#4 apple juice & lf cheese

Today's workout was 30 minutes of free weights for chest, shoulders, back and abs. I did extra ab work and they sure do need it!! I also did 10 minutes of cardio for a total of 40 minutes. My abs are going to be sore tomorrow!

Today's food
#1 turkey wrap with pineapple (at noon)

As stated earlier I bought a new comforter set and have been trying to keep my animals off of my bed. Its not working. At first I remebered to keep my door closes - now everytime I go in there there's an animal on my bed. My new comforter is not going to last!

Dh and I got a kick out of the cat. She saw a squirrel in the tree & ran after it. What would she do if she got it!?! They're about the same size. The dog was crying on the ground when she saw the cat go after the squirrel.

A friend asked if I want to do a diet support thing with her. She has about 25lbs to lose which is about what I have to lose. I'm thinking about it. I definately need help. When I originally went on this diet last year - January of '05 - it was at the urging of my sil and her friend. They were going on a weightloss program and asked me to join them. They both lost weight quickly. One only had 15lbs to lose and lost it in a couple of months. The other had 35lbs to lose and lost it in 4 months. By the time I was getting serious they'd already reached goal. It took me about 14 months to lose 30lbs! They've both kept it off and look great.

Amy, this splurge was nothing for me. I was always the skinny girl and could eat anything. I never gave fat grams or calories a thought. I ate chocolate everyday. I'd stop for fast food two or three times a week. When you're 25 and 102lbs no one worries about food choices. I kept the same food choices but my changing metabolism sure did a number on me! Actually, I'm eating healthier now than I've ever eaten. As for the hot sauce, I put the habanaro in a tablespoon, filled it halfway and took a spoonful of it. I've been taking it for years so it doesn't bother me. Its not nearly as hot as that Indian food was the other day.

Beth, I'm trying. I've increased my workout time from last weeks. I'm also watching what I eat much more carefully. Dh and I had a talk - no more ice cream in the house!

Kate, it might have tasted good but it looks awful on my hips! I'm using food to deal with stress in my life and its not working. Guess I should take a yoga class instead!

Hi Jane,
I am a newbie to WISH and just found your journal. I have only read a little bit so far, but I definitely want to keep going. I am also starting in the 180's and want to read about how you have managed to take off 30 lbs - that is awesome!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I hear you on being the skinny girl and the nasty toll of age on the metabolism. I didn't break a hundred pounds until I graduated from HS. Being underweight was always more the issue. After turning 30, I actually had to pay attention to what I ate for the first time, but even then I could step up the exercise and the excess would come off. The 40's on the other hand have definitely required more work and attention. :sad2:

Love the story about DH and his shoes. :rotfl2: That is so my DH too!

You have made tremendous progress this past year! You are more than half way to your goal!! :cheer2: :cheer2: I am sure you can get back on track and meet your goal.
