Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

Hi Jane,

I haven't checked in with you for a long time. Don't beat yourself up over the splurge last weekend. The weight will come off.....especially if you increase your exercise by even 10 minutes more than you were doing. You'll drop those pounds and be back out of the 150s in no time!!! YOu are doing so great :thumbsup2 . Just remember all the progress you've made!!! Keep up the good work.

OMG, I think I would have had to smack DH around because of the accountant thing! How embarrassing! But men are like that - they just don't get it sometimes...

You got back on track pretty good yesterday! It might help if you re-read the BFL or BFLW book. It is always so motivating and might be that extra push you need to stay focused. I don't think you need to get rid of your clippie, because you DID lose 30lbs! You are only having a temporary setback and will be back in the 140's soon.

Keep it up, you will get there!

A friend brought over homemade soup the night before last so dh and I had that for dinner last night. It was really good ham & bean soup w/ tomatoes, onions, celery. I took all of the bigger ham pieces out of my soup to keep the calories down.

#2 2 lf cheese sticks
#3 bowl of ham/bean soup, apple juice, 5 caramels (Yes, I found them hidden in the closet behind a hatbox in a basket! He may be bad at answering the door but he's great at hiding candy - he's had lots of practice.)

Today's food
#1 oatmeal w/apples, raisins, cinnamon & almond slices - nonfat milk

Today's workout 35 minutes of jog/walks.

Ds is really getting into working out and eating. I'm very proud of him. He and his friend went to the local GNC and spent about an hour talking to the manager there. They workout 3-4 days a week with weights. He also drinks protein drinks 3X a day which I've been using. I'd gotten lazy and instead of ordering my usual protein shake mix with soy, I've been swiping his - afterall I bought it! He showed me on the back of the label it says 'do not use for weightloss'. Great! I've been using it about 3 weeks. I guess its just supposed to be a food supplement. Whatever! I don't think ds wants me takin' his stuff anymore!

CCruisin', thanks for stopping by! Those lbs have a way of creepin' up on us - especially once we hit the big 40. One thing about starting a weightloss program when you weigh in the 180s - is that it really doesn't take long to see an improvement.

Thanks AmyBeth, I really want to increase my jogging time in my walk jogs. I think cardio can really help the weight melt off. Maybe someday I'll catch up to you!

Amy, you are so right about reading to get motivated. Last night I checked out a couple of BFL websites. Seeing the improvements regular people have made motivated me all over again. One lady I read about was doing her 3rd challenge which started at 150 - she managed to get down to 125. It made a huge difference in how she looked. Thats all I need to do is get down 25 pounds and keep it there!

Glad you're back in control again, Jane. Hope you're having a good week!

I think the protein shakes can be used for whatever you want! They probably just don't want you using only the shakes instead of food. If you like it, use it!

GET RID OF THE CARAMELS!!!!!!! You can toss the caramels and I can toss the Cool Whip. That way all our binge-provoking junk will be out of the house! You are just getting back on track, you don't want to blow it over a couple caramels!

You are doing great getting those workout minutes up. Are you going to join the May challenge? It might help you keep bumping up those minutes! :yay:

Jane - just checking in....sounds like you are doing pretty good...IMO.
be careful of your ds protien shakes....my dh used to drink those....some of them are for bulking up, not losing weight....i guess it's a guy thing!! :sad2:

have a great day!
marie

 I had a no cheat day!!!

We are still dealing with our homeowners insurance. I have been dealing with this since January! Ugh! I hate hurricanes! :furious: And insurance companies!! Not to mention insurance agents!!! :headache:

Part of my problem has been that I've not been getting enough protein. I know this, have known it & yet continually have messed up. Yesterday when I knew we were going to have a 7pm dinner I made sure to have a turkey wrap at 3:30pm. I set myself up for failure by NOT getting enough protein, then I get hungry, then I eat caramels.

#2 honeydew melon, 2 lf cheese stix
#3 turkey wrap, fudgesicle
#4 spicy buffalo chix breast in a big salad, cranberry juice, orange cream bar (2.5 fat grams)

Today:
oatmeal w/apple, raisins, cinamon & almonds
1/2 chix breast in a small salad, 1 lf cheese stick

No workout yet. I had a morning hair appointment. I got a full head of highlights. Still very few greys - my hairdresser is really impressed or at least she pretends to be - gotta love that tip! Anyway I'm planning on an evening workout tonight.

Julie, I'm learning. I've just got to take things one day at a time or I'm
toast!

Amy, I may just join that challenge. I know my workouts were longer when I had that darn challenge hanging over my head everyday. I really need something to push me into shape!

Marie, I've given the chocolate shake back to ds. I won't have anymore but it did make a great chocolate mousse. I think its just the supplement issue that Amy mentioned; however, I am back to finishing my vanilla soy protein mix (just in case!!).

:cheer2: Congrats on your no cheat day! Good Job! :cheer2:

Good idea about getting more protein into your afternoon snack. I'll have to try that. The munchies while I am making dinner are wicked right now. :sad2:

WAY TO GO on the cheat free day!!! :cool1:  :Pinkbounc :yay: See, it is possible! You can get 2 days in a row, I know it! :cheer2:

I think it would help if you did the exercise challenge, so sign up!

Getting that extra protein really does help with the cravings, doesn't it?

Yesterday was good and bad. Bad because I did not get in my workout, :guilty: ate 4 caramels, and drank 2 Long Islands.

Now, the good - no Milk Duds at the movies and I did a 70 minute workout today. :cheer2: Yesterday, I was stessin' and wanted to down a whole bag of caramels. Instead, I had 3 fudge swirl stix. They are only 57 calories each and no fat grams. Then I waited 30 minutes and ate 4 caramels. When we went to the movie theater, I did NOT get Milk Duds. When we went out to eat I had my two Long Islands but did not get potato skins, nachos OR quesadillas. Instead I went for the spicy hummas with pitas and veggies. The hummus is high in fat (I think) but at least its healthy fat.

Today's workout was 30 minutes of weights for my buns, calves and shoulders. 25 minutes of bike riding and 15 minutes of cardio. The cardio was to loosen up my buns and legs after the bike ride.

Today #1 eggwhite scrambled w/veggies in a tortilla plus honeydew, strawberries & pineapple on the side.

CCruisin', the extra protein helps stave off my out of control appetite. It works better than anything else that I've tried. Thanks for your support!

Amy, thanks for encouraging me! Maybe I'll swing by and look at that challenge. They definately do motivate me to increase my minutes and buckle down with my workouts!

Jane,

Good for you resisting the milk duds!!!! :cool1:

Dinner sounds successful too.....and everyone needs some cocktails now and again :teeth: . Matter of fact...I could use one tonight. Won't hijack your thread but BOY are my kids doing me in today.

Excellent workout too!!! That was a great combo of activities....good idea to do the cardio after the weights...apparently you burn more calories that way!!

Keep up the good work and have a GREAT weekend!!! :woohoo:

Way to go on your workout today! Yummy sounding breakfast too!

Long Islands - OK, bad from a wieghtloss standpoint, but - oh so good, otherwise! :teeth: Good job resisting the milkduds and all those appetizers too! That takes a lot of willpower.

Hey Jane - just catching up...Good job on the Milk Duds....that had to be tough!! And I don't blame you about the Long Islands....those are soooooo good!!! The way my husband makes them, I'm only allowed one....they make me fall down.... :confused3

Great job on the workouts.....but THROW AWAY THE CARAMELS!!! ( I have the same problem with Whoppers...the candy, not the burgers!)

Oh, and please join us on the Challenge...they REALLY motivate ya...especially since Amy's in charge of it this time!!! LET'S KICK SOME BUTT!!
 :woohoo: :yay:  :woohoo: :yay:

Hey Jane,

Just checking in to say hi and hope you're enjoying the weekend.

Come on and join the exercise challenge!! :sunny:

Woohoo on the Milk Dud resisting!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 :cool1:  :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

As for the Long Islands, hey at least you only had 2 (compared to my 4 Outback martinis... ) and you resisted all the fried appetizers! That is a huge accomplishment! :cheer2:

Yep, you are going to have to join the exercise challenge for May. There's just no way around it! It'll be fun! :teeth: I am going to struggle to get in all my minutes because of 1) my Mex trip next weekend and 2) it's getting too hot to walk at lunch (100 degrees is the forecast for Monday! :sunny: ). But I'm gonna squeeze in those minutes anyway I can and so can you! :yay:

I'm doing pretty well... for the weekend... for me!
Yesterday's meals
#2 chicken salad made from EFL's turkey salad recipe, pineapple

#3 Ranch chix salad on lettuce, cranberry juice

Today
#1 oatmeal w/protein shake mix, raisins, cinamon & sliced almonds
#2 Ranch chix salad, apple juice
#3 granola bar
#4 2T of Ranch chix salad - I brought extra so I wouldn't be tempted by the homemade choc chip cookies at work. It worked! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc  I didn't have one homemade choc chip cookie. Those cookies are a worse temptation than the caramels or Milk Duds!

#5 veggie burger (bunless) rice and peas, 3 caramels and 1 fudge stix, cranberry juice

glass of wine with dh while watching the sunset

My younger ds is driving me crazy! I hate being on patrol watch all of the time. He wants to have girls in his room and I don't like that idea at all. Ds says his video games and keyboard are in his room. I say we have a family room with a TV & he could bring the video games in there. Dh sided with ds for some unknown reason but I'm the one who is usually at home. I make him keep his door open & if I don't hear voices I'm in the room offering drinks, food, junk food, chips - anything! This is the worst age ever. I can't wait until he is grown and gone! I definately don't have the 'empty nest' syndrome.

AmyBeth, those Long Islands are too good! Its just a shame they're so high in calories. Thanks for your comment about my workout. I didn't realize that I actually burned more calories by doing weights before cardio. Every little bit helps!

CCruisin' the protein has definately helped me. I used to be really out of control, and I think its because I never got enough protein to satifsy my hungry cravings. I'm still not the greatest at resisting temptations but it has improved.

Marie, your husband sounds like he knows how to make a drink! I don't think I'd survive it. Let me know if he finds a way to make a low cal Long Island! You're right about the caramels. I'm NEVER buying them again.

Thank you, Kate. I've already joined the challenge! Looks like we're ready for May.

Amy, my 2 Long Islands probably have twice as many calories as your 4 martinis! Thanks for hosting the May Challenge - you talked me into it! I definately need the motivation. I can't believe your trip is coming up so quickly. Have a great time.

Thank you for your encouragement in my journal. I really appreciate it. Way to go resisting the Chocolate Chip cookies!   Your oatmeal sounds yummy. I've seen oatmeal on several journals. I'll have to try that. As the mom of a DD, you have my hearty permission to go in to DS's room ALL THE TIME and offer whatever! I am so not looking forward to the teen years - yikes! Have a great rest of the weekend and I'll see you monday when we all start the May exercise challenge! :yay:

Great, you are making me fear what is in my near future! I don't blame you for making him keep the door open, because I know what I used to to at that age - just ask my mom, I was no  ... :rolleyes1

That is awesome that you resisted cookies! Especially homemade chocolate chip :thumbsup2  ! :cool1:

I am going to be your worst nightmare for this exercise challenge! You will have no excuse not to make your goal! :goodvibes

I'm glad to see you are finally back in control of your eating. :yay:

Sounds like you DS is much like mine. Personally I'd LOVE to have empty nest syndrome.

I hope the Ins co problems clear up before it's hurricane season again. My oldest DBro lives in Naples & his son's have a house in Ft Myers while in college. Sons lost a large part of the roof and are still waiting to get everything completely done.

Hope you have a great week this week! Hang in there!

We made it thru the weekend!! I didn't do as well yesterday as I did on Saturday. Saturday I worked all day and dh and I had a quiet evening at home. Sunday I worked half a day and then had BBQ with the neighbors in the afternoon.

#1 eggwhite scramble in a tortilla, honeydew
#2 BBQ ribs - 5 ribs, 3 glasses of white zin
#3 - :guilty: 15 caramels - they are all gone!! and they ain't comin' back!!!
#4 2 slices of jalapeno cheese, mocha bar, coca cola

I had my breakfast at 8:30am and didn't eat meal #2 until after 3pm. I should have taken something to work to snack on while I was working. It was all downhill after that.

Today's stuff is much better - :woohoo:
70 minute workout - 30 of yoga and 40 of free weights

#1 eggwhite scramble in a tortilla, cranberries
#2 Ranch chix salad in a tortilla, 2 mocha bars

Anna, whenever I have oatmeal I try to have some sort of protein with it - either a shake, sliced almonds or protein powder; otherwise my blood sugar spikes and drops too quickly and I'm craving a chocolate donut an hour later.

I'm just looking forward to getting thru the next couple of years. Teens today seem a lot more complicated than when I was a teen. I hope things are easier with your daugher than they've been with my son!

Amy, I'm ready for this challenge - got an early start - I knew that I'd better or you might POST TO ME IN ALL CAPS!!! I don't want any caps on my thread so I'm getting my act together. Seriously, I am motivated. Thanks for doing the challenge - I'll post every Friday with my weekly totals.

As for when your kids are teens, maybe you'll be able to anticipate their actions. The worst times are between 3 and 6pm and then after midnight. Thank God younger ds usually works until 6pm now. When he was 15 he didn't work that late and he was actually harder to keep an eye on. When my older ds was 15 and had his first girlfriend, I used to drive by his girlfriend's house to make sure the mom's car was out front. I really really hate doing guard duty.

Julie, I can't believe that they haven't finished your nephew's roof. With a new hurricane season coming up they need to have it done. In the newspaper they had a story on two insurance companies that dropped customers before their repairs were completed. Its scary all thats going on. I hope they get his roof completed soon.
