Jamie Lynn Spears - 16 and Pregnant

I haven't seen an answer for this yet. Is he being charged as a sex offender for having sex with a minor?

According to Louisiana felony laws, it is not against the law for a 16 yr old to have consensual sex with an 18 yr old. If the baby was conceived after he turned 19 then he can be charged. If he was 18 and she was 15, that is also a felony.

Does he still live in Louisiana, or do they live in Los Angeles now? I don't know what the ages are for consensual sex there.

This entire thread has been about what Lynne Spears did wrong...what Jamie Lynn Spears did wrong...even what Brittany Spears did wrong (and this particular issue has nothing to do with her). What about Jamie's DAD? What about this baby's DAD?? Why is every single mistake made, either thru less-than-stellar parenting or birth control, only resting on the shoulders of the women in this story????

It is not my place to play Judge & Jury, so I have a hard time commenting on this story. But it boggles my mind that it's 2007 and we're still stuck in the "she did a bad thing" mentality. THEY had sex and THEY created a life...she did not do this alone. Where is all of the moral outrage for HIM? Jamie Lynn''s FATHER is as responsible for raising her as her mother is...where is the moral outrage for HIM?

Her dad didn't even want the story sold to Ok magazine and is taking none of the money. I don't even think the dad sees them that much since the divorce to be honest.

Well being that she is a MINOR and her parents ALLOWED her to stay with her NINETEEN year old boyfriend, then heck yeah I'm focusing my blame on the mother and father. How about you don't let your daughter move out? He's responsible for taking care of his baby but the Spears are responsible for basically raising two crappy kids. One kid has already shown she can't raise her children. I'm not too optimistic about the younger one. The entire Spears family and their choice in men are pretty pathetic.

I can't believe people are sticking up for her-girls are going to look at her and think that it is cool. Some are, regardless of what you think. I am sure Jamie Lynn will be fine financially, but the girls who decide that they want a baby as well will probably be raising their babies in poverty.

This makes me sick. I have a 15 year old daughter.

And I am horrified to think her mother is writing a book on "Parenting". Oh, my head.

I don't think anybody is sticking up for her, but several of us don't understand where all the animosity towards her has come from. It's almost like some posters are taking delight in bashing her simply because she is a celebrity. If somebody posted on here that their 16 yr old daughter was pregnant there would be a lot of posts with and condolences.

She made a bad decision, she admits it, and is taking responsibility for her actions. Thankfully we can assume that she has the financial ability to care for the child. For gooness sake, the her boyfriend is 19 yrs old, and we know absolutely nothing about him other than his name and his age, yet posters here have talked about her money "supporting her, the baby, her boyfriend" etc like he is some loser who can't hold a job.

Pregnant at 16 and a parent by 17 is not something I would wish for anyone's child, however it is a scenario that has been repeated millions of times before. This is not an earth shattering event for anyone other than Ms Spears and the baby's father.

Like I said, I agree that it takes two BUT the FIRST action that has to take place is for the girl to consent. Plain and simple. If SHE says no to begin with thats where it ends. If she says yes then things can procede and then its up to the guy.

Also on another note people say mistakes happen, condoms break. I hear that alot but its mostly people saying they have "heard" it from others who heard it from others. No one I have known has had one break and I have NEVER had one break in all the ones I have used.

I keep reading (on this thread) that she was living with Casey, but I haven't found any online articles that say that. Can you point me in the right direction?

My 13 year old sister loves her show and when she heard the first thing she said was, "What are they going to do about her show?" Young girls really do like her and I think it basically sucks!

As for living with the boyfriend. Actually, he was spending lots of time with the Spears' at their home in Los Angeles. Pretty much living with them most of the time. I read that on one of the People articles. There were about three or four on the daily e-mail I get.

I think he had his own home, but spent lots of time with the family. He also had plans to go to college and get a degree. Guess that's gone now.

Evidently, they met when he lived in MS about 30 miles from Kentwood, LA where the Spears family live.

Why wouldn't he be able to go to college? Lots of people have children and continue to work and/or go to school part or full time. I read stories like that all the time here on the DIS.

I just don't know what her being pregnant has to do with him going to college. She can continue to work before/after the baby is born just like millions of other women do...why can't he?

I see major blame in the father. This is basically child sexual assault. I'm surprised that in some states it would be legal for him to have sex with a 15 or 16 yo. In a lot of states he would be considered a sex offender, for life. Wasn't there that major case a few months back with two HS kids about the same age and the young man was sentenced to something like 20 years? And that was consensual. Why is this different? I'm not trying to make this guy out to be a sex offender, but, yeah, now that I think about it, I am. Shame on her, but more shame on him. She's a kid. He is old enough to know better.

I think she should take this opportunity to gracefully end her career as an actress. Maybe focus her attention on being a better mother to her children than Big Sis is to hers.

I am trying figure out why all of the problems Britney and now Jaimie have done all come back to their Mom? Britney was "of age" and was married when she had her kids, she made a choice not to either use protection or not to use it correctly. SHe also made her choices as the way she acts and the partying. As did Jamie. It wouldn't matter if Jamie lived with her boyfriend. 2 of my friends in high school and living with their parents, one was on honor roll, guess what ? they both became pregnant, 1 was even on the first time.
Yes, Lynn was stage mom, etc. but both these young women made choices all on their own and now they have to deal with consequences.


When I was 16, I could have had sex, could have even been the girl every one knew ,but CHOSE not to and my parents werent around a lot, but I was responsible for my own actions and my body.


I have been a witness with parents who were strict and tried to watch every move, just to have their teenage do things anyway. After a certain point, it is called personal responsibility.

I agree just for the sake that she is under age. 18 is the age of consent in California. If the law states what they were doing is illegal then he should be arrested just like they would with anyone else.

He was dumb, just because the fruit is offered doesnt mean you have to take it. My guess is they were doing this before she turned 16.

There was more at the end. I said that they may not live the same lifestyles that we lead but they are PEOPLE, people who deserve not to be name called for stupid mistakes that every PERSON makes, whether that mistake is as a big as this one or not.
