This family is so very sad .

I always felt sorry for Jamie Lynn, I worried that her career might be hurt by her association with Britney.

She is a kid who just made irresponsible choices. By being a famous kid and a role model for others, this affects more people.

It amazes me that the current pop tarts all seem to believe the laws of man and nature don't apply to them .

I still have a problem with a 16 year old staying at a 19 year olds house.

Maybe it's a southern thing but I just can't come to grips with that. I know kids have sex ( I surly did before that age)and things happen around that age and when 25 & 28 it won't seem so big of a deal but man thats just creepy

She turned 16 in April, and will be 17 by the time the baby is born.

Can someone post a link to the articles citing that she was living with her 19 yr old boyfriend. I haven't seen that in anything I've read.

I'm surprised at how harsh some of these posts are. If your kids look at to Jamie Lynn as a role model, that is your responsibility. You have control over whether or not they watch these shows and movies.

I can't believe people are calling this girl a loser. Who are you to pass judgement. Condoms break, it's happened to myself. It happens. This is not all the parents fault. I'm just surprised how mean some people can be.

These are people just like you and me. They may live a very, very different life than you and me but they are still people and deserve some respect.

I am surprised so many think this is not that big of a deal. It was a very bad decision to engage in an action that can have VERY adult consequences at such a young age.
I'm sorry-in this day and age pregnancy is certainly avoidable. Use the pill and condom. If you are not taking such precautions you are being irresponsible, especially at her age.
The fact that she has used such poor judgment does not bode well for her parenting skills.
I don't think you can strongly enough what a poor situation this is.

I had several friends in school that used condoms that broke. A couple of them was lucky and didn't end up pregnant. A couple others did.
Another friend of mine about 3 years ago got pregnant after a condom broke.
My own mother got pregnant with me while on the pill.
My cousin, just a couple years ago got pregnant while on the pill. Another friend of mine also got pregnant on the pill.

It happens.

OKay, some points I want to make:

#1- if you are in SCHOOL, then you are too young to have sex. Period.

#2- If people think that condoms or pills are so "unreliable", then either abstain, or use the method PLUS another birth control. (2 forms are better than 1)

#3- I think a lot of people who claim that they "were on the pill" and got pg also omit that they forget to take a pill or 2 once in awhile. Same with claims that the "condom broke", I think they just don't want to admit that there was no condom at all during some encounters.

Onto another topic, how old did everyone start to speak to their daughters about sex? My DD will be 9 in January, I dont feel she is ready to learn about it but I know its important to start early

Not according to her biography on imdb.com, wikipedia, or the news outlets releasing the story. She was born April 4/91.

I was talking to a friend today who told me that a friend of her 13 yr old daughter, a girl who is also 13, has engaged in intercourse, oral sex and tried pot and alcohol.

While I am sure Jamie Lynn would rather not be 16 and pregnant, she is not the first, not will she be the last, pregnant teenager. Not to take away from the serious issue of teenage pregnancy but it's not like she is a crack smokin 'ho who's going to spit out a baby every year and live on welfare.

That's a good question -and one I wish I knew the answer to. DD is 10. DW has talked with her about how her body will soon be changing and what that means, but it's probably getting to be time for us to talk more intentionally about sex.
