Hi Everybody! Just checking in before I go to watch DH! Hope everyone is having a great weekend and planning trips....;)

Didja' watch? Didja'? Didja'? What did you think of the cliffhanger for next season?

Sorry, mini threadjack.

A question about the construction... I was told by the CM when we booked that construction would start at 8 am - 6 pm. Well I read somewhere on the DIS that construction began at 7 am - 8 pm. Could anyone who is recently back confirm the times? I refuse to be woke up at 7 am during my vacation as we're not commando style and would like to sleep in. 8 a.m. isn't a problem at all but 7 is.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there! We just got back from AKL this past Saturday and construction didn't start until around 9am (maybe a few minutes before on occasion) and ended by 5pm each day. It definitely didn't start as early as 7 (at least not in our section - Zebra Trail).

Thank you ever so much for putting my mind at ease!

We originally had reservations at AKL for May 10-19. We had it marked on our reservations and again called the front desk a couple days before we went that we wanted a quiet room away from construction due to my migraine issues. Both CRO and the front desk insisted there was no inside constuction going on. We had a ressie for a deluxe savannah view, as we needed to sleep 5 people. The first room they put us in was 5260 . . . you could both see the outside construction and hear the continual beeping of the construction vehicles. We asked for a second room, once again stated no noise, and got 5202, right off the lobby. We couldn't seem to get a zebra trail room . . . don't know if that's because there are no deluxe savannah rooms on that side or what?????? Could still see the outer construction site, but didn't hear any of the noise. The first 2 mornings, we saw quite a few of the animals (mostly giraffes . . .which was fine with my giraffe lover). But saw nothing Sunday, then Monday morning our animal view was replaced with a view of pickup trucks and men digging a hole in front of our window. We asked about it and was told that it had to do with the animal habitat, not the construction. Whatever it was, there were no animals, and I watched as the animal feeders were removed from the trees in the area. Tuesday morning, still no animals, now the men were filling up the hole they'd dug the previous day. Could still obviously tell the giraffe feeders were not in the trees. And the inside drilling started. It was loud from our room, and horribly loud when you got to the lobby. We asked about moving, and was told that there was no deluxe savannah room available where we would not hear either the inside construction or the outside construction. That, paired with the lack of animal viewing from our savannah room view for 3 days straight, led us to take them up on the offer to find another deluxe hotel room for us. . . we ended up spending the rest of our stay at the Contemporary. . . 9th floor. Opposite side of their construction. . .but you could still hear Chef Mickey going on. ROFL These were definitely not the quietest hotel rooms we've ever had! :lmao:

We are back after a stay of three nights at the AKL and just wanted to report about Standard Room Concierge...and the view we had (the BEAUTIFUL VIEW we had). We had rooms 4305, 4227 and 4272 on the Kudu Trail...outside our balcony (4305 Arusha Savanna) we could see Giraffes, Pelicans, Impalas, Zebras, Kudu..with a great view of Arusha Rock Overlook.
Room 4272 (Sunset Savanna) view was also as wonderful with Giraffes, Ostrich, wish I could remember all of the animals...but this view was as good as rooms 4305 and 4227 just no view of Arusha Overlook... the concierge lounge was not that far away and the walk was easy, they were trying out a new menu in the concierge lounge...and like a nit...I forgot to pick-up the letter with the new foods on it..sorry...but I can tell you this it was good!
I can and will answer any questions you may have....OH! construction.. rooms 4305 and 4227...never heard or saw it...room 4272 could hear it...not loud and see some of it...

Thanks for the review!!! You know we will ask for you to share some pictures!! :goodvibes Glad you had a great trip.

This isn't acceptable, I'd be so disappointed if I were you. I'm glad they moved you to another resort, but odd that they wouldn't acknowledge the construction before putting you up against it. I wonder if they just hope people won't complain.

Has anyone heard what they are going to do about conceirge guest doing the safari and then breakfast at Tusker house? The Tusker House is supposed to be closed when we are doing the safari.:scratchin

This was what I thought was really odd. We were never told about the construction when we made the reservations. . . .we just made them in late February, so it's not like we'd made then a long time ago and they didn't have a time table yet. I found out about them here, and then we had a hard time getting them to be open about it when we called and asked.

I was quite disappointed . . . especially after we ended up not only having the 2 sets of construction, but the mystery hole being dug up as well. There is no way that anyone anywhere near the lobby didn't hear the drilling last Tuesday. I don't know how many days that was supposed to go on for, but it wasn't a one day thing, and it was horribly loud when you were in the lobby.

We were glad we had the first two days there, but the rest of them were a wash as far as seeing any animals from our room, and for that kind of money, it's frustrating. I can't say that I'd try it again. Don't really think it's an issue, as from what I can tell, they're getting rid of all the rooms that sleep 5 there.

I'm sorry if this question has already been answered, but what should we expect when it comes to construction when we arrive on September 14? Anybody know? We are staying in a standard room. This is our Disneymoon, and I'm starting to get just a wee bit nervous......:scared:

Just wanted to let everyone know that our stay at AKL was magical as ever. We were there 5/13-5/19, Kudu trail, 1/2 way down, 4th floor. No construction issues whatsoever.

Had a great stay at AKL 5/17 & 18! I never saw or heard the construction but we were on Kudu trail with a partial view room (a surprise upgrade from standard!). It was my first stay and I plan to go back-just a great resort!

Wow . . .that's so weird. . . the drilling on Tuesday was so horrible, I would've assumed you could hear it that far back! Glad you were cushioned from the noise though. We really enjoyed the first few days we had there.

We were at MK during the day, got back around 7:00-ish, so maybe we were lucky enough to miss it? There was 1 day we heard a little noise in the lobby, but nothing I would call disruptive. Guess we got lucky.

I just wanted to post over here due to the fact that everyone is so kind and with all of the advice that is given. We decided that this stay we will be staying at WL instead of AKL. The construction played a very small part in that but the main thing for us was proximity to MK. We also have ADRs at several MK resorts and MK restaurants. It just made sense to change at this point.

We were at AKL 5/17-22. We stayed on the 4th Floor, Kudu Trail, room 4328. We were on the Sunset Savannah, and could hear construction when the sliding glass door was open, but not when it was closed. Never saw anything. My husband also heard drilling several times during the day at the pool. AA Vacations obviously did not fax my requests as our first room assignment was on the second floor, Zebra Trail, but the CM at the front desk quickly called the room assigner and asked what the best room would be for us to stay away from construction noise for napping children.

I liked AKL, but I didn't fall in love with it. I don't think the rooms were too dark, nor did I have any problems with staff. It just didn't do anything special for me. I can see how some people would love the place, though.

Okay - so now I'm worried....IF we are at AKL, is it that hard to get to MK or MGM or anywhere else for ADRs?
Ktink, I've followed all of your posts and have seen you wavering and back and forth, but will it REALLY be a hassel to get back and forth from the AKL? I know it's the most remote of all places, but.......

HELP!
