I've never started a political thread before, but WOW

I am sorry for your pain.

But the bold part is rather dramatic and a poor example of how ANY liberals I know personally feel. Probably best to read or listen to the actual words rather than what you believe is between the lines.

BTW, at least half of the liberals I know would have voted for John McCain in 2000. It wasn't until the past two years that those same people thought his vison changed.

Just MHO, of course.

Thank you for your concern. I was reluctant to mention it because I'm not a whiner. One does what they must to get by....with a little dignity and pride. That's why so many were truly offended by the computer/e-mail ad.

I know liberals and I also lurk on the OS thread.......that's how many of them feel. I am reading and listening to the actual words.

The liberals that would have voted for McCain....let me see.....two years ago...that would be when Obama came on the national scene. It had nothing to do with McCain's vision changing.....or Obama's ability to lead.

(I am not speaking of the old school libs. They have their opinions but.....we can respectfully disagree.)

I think McCain is playing it to the top about his war injuries. I sit right next to a quadriplegic and I watch him use a computer everyday. It's not a question if McCain can use a computer it's a question of does he want to use a computer. He see's no reason for it since he has a staff that does it for him. MUST BE NICE!!! Now we know the real reason why he offered Palin the job he couldn't figure out how to Google her name. He's out of touch and come November will be out of here.

Is your friend a US Senator?

You said he see's no reason to... Not true.

He's ALREADY given the reason. Obviously, you're just not paying attention.

And do I detect a little envy?

Thank you for acknowledging that.

But this is the OP

Do you think Obama was mocking McCain? I just don't see his war injuries as preventing him from using a computer. A simple adaptive device (either off the rack or custum) could make it so his war injuries were not aggravated- if he had the desire. I just don't have any problem with his lack of desire.

I have worked with many functional quads with extreme pain and spasticity issues and they have had only minor adaptations to assist them to get connected.
I will respond as the OP...when I first heard it, yeah, my reaction was that he was mocking his injuries and inability to type. When I researched it more, I figured it was just a stupid move on his campaign's part. However, I heard tape of an interview with one of his staffers today that basically took on the argument of a lot of people on this thread, which makes me wonder again. I need to try to find some more info on the short interview I heard in the car.
Isn't it funny how the Republican party have become the ones shouting for political correctness? :rotfl:
I'm not a Republican...I'm a Democrat.

We have moved from a manufacturing economy to an information economy. Computers, the internet etc. are the cornerstone of our economy and our future. McCain is out of touch with where the country is and where he is going.

The injury issue is so bogus. First of all he wants to tell us that he is in good health and fit to be President, but now he is trying to say that he is disabled and can't bring himself to use a computer - I know many folks who are far more disabled than McCain who use a computer daily. There are tons of options that allow folks with a wide range of disabilities to use a computer. If Stephen Hawking can use a computer, than McCain could use a computer, he simply chooses not to.

So he has made a conscious choice to ignore the information age. He might have made a good President in 1950, but not 2008

This is a sad post.:sad2:

How did you make the leap from him not using a computer to him ignoring the information age as a government official?

Do you really think there are many "information age" experts in Congress?

First of all, he came on the national scene 4 years ago.

About two years ago, McCain changed his tune. He went from being very opinionated (frequently bucking his own party) to being in lock step with Bush. He went from championing the anti torture cause to being relatively quiet on the subject. Nearly every POV he had was now nearly the same as Bush.

I barely heard mention of him until 2 years ago. I think it was late '06... I doubt the average American heard much about him until he decided to run for president.

He was the keynote speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. So, I beg to differ.

So what, he spoke at the DNC. I still don't believe the average democrat ....much less republican followed his every move after that convention. There are many....at least half the country....that doesn't think he's all that. I heard about him speaking....he wrote a book ....he announced his presidency.

I think he cleaarly was on the national political scene by 2004. You told me that my falling out with McCain had to do with the emergence of Obama in 2006. He was clearly on my radar in 2004.

BTW, I do not think any of the candidates are "all that". With the exception of Palin, I think the other three could stear us in a better direction than GWB.

I think what Obama lacks in experience could be gained by surrounding himself with a kickbuttinet. I would love to see Powell back - AND LISTENED to this time. But is he the be all end all? I think not. ;)

I wonder if in the late 1800's a Presidential candidates rivals used "the opposing candidate didnt know how Telephones work." against them.

I wonder if in the 1940's any Presidential candidate rivals used used "the opposing candidate didnt know how Television work." against them.

etc etc.:rolleyes1

Like the other inventions, the Internet& PC is just another tool for communication. A fancy schmancy Pen & Paper, the latest in technological advances since the Printing press. Thats all.

Me thinks since Obama uses (or claims) to use the PC & Internet, he places more importance on it as a Presidential candidate, then really need be. This is so not a Presidential Campaign issue.

I was aware of him, but not AWARE of him, and I am a political junkie. I think it is safe to say that 2 years ago most Americans did not know who Barack Obama was.

Found this article from November 2006. Only 17% of Democrats supported him for a Presidential Election.

Well, here is one Democrat that will admit it. I don't think he's all that. But I do think he's the best choice of what we are currenty offered. Neither party is, IMO, offering the best candidates that they could find in their party. Kind of sad, really. This year, more than any other in recent memory, I'll literally be voting for overall issues instead of the "person."

I really liked McCain, and would have been pretty comfortable voting for him in 2000 or 2004, but he has made a complete turn around from his stands on many issues since then. I just can't vote for anyone that panders to the far right wing of the party as much as he is this year...the selection of Palin demonstrates that. Regardless of what the ads say, his maverick days are over. And while some of Obama's ideas & positions sound good, I think it is a lot of hype, too. I'm just not impressed by either of them. Both parties need a do over.

It wasn't Obama mocking McCain. It was Obama being stoopid (again) by making a statement or charge that could cause backlash by not having the good sense to see the logical conclusion or response.

"John McCain doesn't even use a computer" Oops. Using a keyboard is painful/uncomfortable, because John McCain left his flexibility in the Hanoi Hilton.

"When a child/fetus deserves basic human rights is above my paygrade". Oops. When running for POTUS, since you will be appointing Supreme Court justices, you may want to form an opinion.

"I have more executive experience than Palin because I'm running a campaign with 2,500 employees and a $300 million budget" Oops. The state of Alaska has 29,000 employees and an $11 Billion budget.

"You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig." Oops. With Palin having just used a lipstick reference about herself, Obama should have made the connection that could be made by his comment. His audience sure did.

"I'm going to go to Berlin and speak as John Kennedy did." Oops. JFK and Reagan weres sitting presidents and this trip looked suspiciously like he was campaigning in Europe, which he was.

"I'm going to make a cool new logo that looks like the presidential seal so I look more presidential." oops. Americans don't like it when you screw around with american icons like the flag, seals, slogans, etc.

Ooops....

I have not read all the replies to the OP, so I have no idea what's been posted here. But, some of you who are so up in arms and convinced that Obama is poking fun at McCain's disability should understand that McCain himself has said he has no need to email but is learning the computer.

http://www.washingtonian.com/blogarticles/people/capitalcomment/8815.html

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/13/us/politics/13text-mccain.html?pagewanted=print

Nowhere did he say he was unable to use a computer due to his disability. I am pretty sure he would have said that when asked about his computer usage.

But, hey, don't let facts stand in your way.

Did Obama really mock McCain not being able to send e-mail when McCain can't use a keyboard due to the injuries he received while a POW?:confused3

Mccain referred to himself as computer illiterate and having to depend on his wife for computer assistance. Give me a break, blaming this on some pow injuries. :rotfl: How desperate he is for sympathy votes.

McCain on the right wing of the party? Are you kidding? The man who considered picking Joe Lieberman as his running mate. McCain spends more time crossing the isle than I do going to the bathroom. As a conservative, he does not sit well with me. In my mind, he lines up better for the Democrats than he does the Republicans. His choice of Palin was partially about bringing in the right wing. Republicans will vote for him because BO is more of a socialist than a Democrat. Just look at my earlier post on his health care plan.

.....and this is one of my biggest overall problem with Obama. I'm truly afraid for him to sit down.... with all those "little countries"...... for talks.:scared1:
