I've never started a political thread before, but WOW

I believe he uses a blink system to control his computer. That man amazes me.

As he should anyone. But I'm not about to disparage someone who has physical limitations for not wanting to do something that aggravates the condition.

I know you haven't, but others have.

::yes::

I hadb't realized (until this morning) that the whole "he can't even send an e-mail" thing was supposed to be/taken as a jab at McCain's POW injuries. Just a few moments ago I heard on the news that McCain can't send e-mails because of his previous injuries. DH and I were watching tv together when it was mentioned. AT first I was shocked...then Dh looked at me very seriously and said:

"Really? Heck, even Stephen HAwking can type."

But Steven Hawking doesn't have any other option. He can't pick up a cell phone or even talk to someone in person. Of course it is reasonable for him to use adaptive devices. (And yes, the man is amazing!)

Since McCain can communicate via voice, phone, dictate memos, etc., and typing causes him physical problems, then doesn't it make sense for him to not use e-mail?

Thank you for acknowledging that.

But this is the OP

Did Obama really mock McCain not being able to send e-mail when McCain can't use a keyboard due to the injuries he received while a POW

Do you think Obama was mocking McCain? I just don't see his war injuries as preventing him from using a computer. A simple adaptive device (either off the rack or custum) could make it so his war injuries were not aggravated- if he had the desire. I just don't have any problem with his lack of desire.

I have worked with many functional quads with extreme pain and spasticity issues and they have had only minor adaptations to assist them to get connected.

I think McCain is playing it to the top about his war injuries. I sit right next to a quadriplegic and I watch him use a computer everyday. It's not a question if McCain can use a computer it's a question of does he want to use a computer. He see's no reason for it since he has a staff that does it for him. MUST BE NICE!!! Now we know the real reason why he offered Palin the job he couldn't figure out how to Google her name. He's out of touch and come November will be out of here.

:goodvibes

No. But I do think it was a poor choice because of the pontential reaction. As we can now see.

But the reaction is fake outrage. I despise it from either side.

I don't believe for a second anybody really believes Obama was making fun of McCain's handicap. Those that really believe he is mocking a handicaped person want to see it.

Shameful...absolutely shameful!
In bad taste, even for the Obama campaigne :sad2:

Wouldn't a simple voice recognition program work pretty well?

Umm, no, my outrage is not fake. Either Obama's campaign is insulting McCain or they are very stupid and insensitive. This is just like the lipstick comment. Either insulting Palin or Obama is really stupid. Both are reasons why Obama should not be POTUS.

McCain has used the lipstick comment as well. Guess he shouldn't be POTUS either.

I have fibromyalgia and CFS. There are days and weeks that I can not walk for long periods. If I do, I am in a great deal of pain and very fatigued. I am able to walk and I have to realize my limitations. I guess I could ride in a wheelchair or scooter but, I don't. There are other simple activities that can cause much discomfort. I was off the disboards for a long time because my hands hurt. Most of us are aware of the various means a person can use a computer. Gee, how awful Cindy McCain is for being a loving and attentive wife. How awful a senator....who is running for POTUS.....doesn't take the time out of his busy schedule to write his own e-mails. I know the radicals don't think conservatives have the wits to understand the arguements concerning the importance of putting Obama in office.....that the means justify the ends. Sorry, we get why you want him there. I also think it's despicable how low some will go to trash a man such as John McCain. The loathing of a man who is a POW.....because he doesn't have a D behind his name. It's all about the game of "gotcha" instead of using COMMON SENSE.

#1 McCain has used the lipstick comment at least once (towards Hillary). Please apply the same level of outrage towards McCain. By your standard McCain should not be President as well.

#2 How does Obama's comments actually mock McCains disability?

Isn't it funny how the Republican party have become the ones shouting for political correctness? :rotfl:

I am sorry for your pain.

But the bold part is rather dramatic and a poor example of how ANY liberals I know personally feel. Probably best to read or listen to the actual words rather than what you believe is between the lines.

BTW, at least half of the liberals I know would have voted for John McCain in 2000. It wasn't until the past two years that those same people thought his vison changed. They were more supportive of McCain than many in his own party were. In fact......if you looked back on the DIS, (especially from the 2000 campaign) you would find that many of the conservative DISers HATED McCain. Loathed McCain. The vile that was spewed against him by his own party was ugly. In the recent primary....the pro Romney, Romney, Thompson, Giuliani folks had some pretty nasty things to say about McCain as well But I guess that is ok.

I will be honest. I think if McCain gets in, he probably will probably go back to his pre 2006 real maverick status -before he joined Bush at the hip. I think as a likely lame duck President, he will not have to fear governing with re-election in mind. So in that sense I see the 2008 Presidential election as a win win - no matter what Bush/Cheney are out. But the Palin thing disturbs me greatly. She was not chosen for her experience. There were much better R candidates (women at that) who I could have felt comfortable with. But she was only chosen as the best political choice - not the best for our country. McCain has a better than usual chance of not making it through the next 4 years. And Palin just isn't Presidential material.

Just MHO, of course.

I agree.. i am still on the straight talk express e mail list!
I hope if he gets elected that will be true.... but the palin choice was a pooor one.......

yeartolate,

I agree with you somewhat in regards to Mccain. Several years ago he was a Maverick and had some really great ideas and I liked him very much. Even though I am a Democrat, I respected the man.

However the past 2 years I can't say the same and now with the stunts that he has been pulling makes me sad. I do agree that Palin is not the best choice he could have had.

I am looking forward to the debates and I hope that all will come out and then it will be up to us Americans to vote. The mudslinging is just ridiculous now and it really should be about the issues from BOTH parties, but its still politics ;)

Either you really don't get it or you just don't care. :confused3 That's a no win situation.:sad2:

No if it does, you should be able to explain why.

If he wants to be on the computer, he can get custom fitted for some adaptive device and be done with it. I have worked personally with patients with uch worse handicaps and pain syndromes than McCain - and the majore difference is a desire to do the deed. McCain obviously just doesn't see the need . I do not have a problem with his lack of desire to do so. You cannot mock his inability to do something when he has the ability to do it, just doesn't want to. If he accomplishes what he needs to without it, why should he?

Why in heavens name should I pity an exPOW (or any person for that manner) for his inability to do something he has the ability to do?

Now a person who had the desire to perform a simple function and could not because they had to fight with the government or insurance to get the accomodation - that person has a better chance of my pity.

We have moved from a manufacturing economy to an information economy. Computers, the internet etc. are the cornerstone of our economy and our future. McCain is out of touch with where the country is and where he is going.

The injury issue is so bogus. First of all he wants to tell us that he is in good health and fit to be President, but now he is trying to say that he is disabled and can't bring himself to use a computer - I know many folks who are far more disabled than McCain who use a computer daily. There are tons of options that allow folks with a wide range of disabilities to use a computer. If Stephen Hawking can use a computer, than McCain could use a computer, he simply chooses not to.

So he has made a conscious choice to ignore the information age. He might have made a good President in 1950, but not 2008
