I've never flown US Air before. How is it?

I'm stuck flying US Air on our trip tomorrow since the tickets were bought by someone else.

How is that airline? Should I be expecting the worst and then be pleasantly surprised if it goes well?

I couldn't believe how small their carryon luggage size is - 45 inches. All my carryon's but one are 50 inches so I've decided to check my bag and let my son use the small carryon.

Of course I didn't discover their carryon size was smaller until an hour ago after I had packed my 50 inch bag. Oops.

Since I'm checking a bag I'll be switching all my stuff to my 58 inch check in bag. No sense in paying for a smaller size bag when I can have the extra space in case I need it.

Ah the joys of flying.......

US Air is not any different than any other airline. They will get you from point A to point B. You will be fine..... Since you are flying tomorrow, you don't have to worry about schedule changes unless there is weather somewhere........ They treated me fine when I flew them a few years ago to visit my sick dad. The plane had mechanical issues, but they did what it took to get me on another carrier to get me to my destination.... relax and enjoy your trip!

45" is the common carryon size with the legacy airlines. They are pretty much no frills - free regular drinks but no free snacks, no entertainment.

You are right that 45" is the standard for carry-on size.

US Airways does provide entertainment, just not within the contiguous United States. You do pay for snacks on domestic flighs. They are no worse than any other legacy airline.

I disagree. I have flown both US and Delta domestic and I prefer Delta. You get a free choice of peanuts, pretzels or cookies, sometimes more than one round. Many of Delta's planes have the individual TV's, especially long distance (Atlanta-Orange Co).

I bring my own entertainment and snacks (having flown a number of times when the entertainment systems don't work or offer garbage programming and I don't consider getting a free Twix bar a bonus), so I personally don't find the absense of decent in-flight entertainment an issue for domestic flights. I'd rather have more legroom and non-surly flight attendants.

Delta used to consistently rank near the top in airline ratings. It has fallen far in recent years.

You are not going to find more leg room and many friendly flight attendents on US, which is the airline the OP was asking about. They are my last choice.
