Can anyone tell me if anything accually touches you in this attraction and if so what? i'v heard that spiders - or something come down from the roof, but do they touch you?

Thanks:D

The spiders stay well out of reach, but you do get a poke in the back from a hole in your seat that is meant to simulate a sting. Just sit a little forward in your seat with your back not touching the back of your seat to avoid this. As I recall, it comes late in the show.

This show is loads of fun. I am not a big ride person, but I really enjoyed this show. My kids, under 10, were a little nervous because it is a little dark in the theater.

If you take pre-schoolers to the show, let them sit in your lap. This way they are spared some of the surprises.

There are also sprays of water mist and "stink spray" from the stink bug. It is definitely a "4D" adventure!

At the end it feels like all the bugs are crawling under you. I guess I'm not a dark, buggy person because I don't like this attraction. I always end up closing my eyes and hunching forward to avoid the poke in the back:)

We love this show. The first few times I did not feel the poke.
The last time, I really noticed the poke. It was a little harder than what I was expecting.

I will remember to sit towards the front of my seat this time.

Near the end, sit towards the front of your seat with your feet off the floor & you'll be fine...that's what I do. :teeth:

when the bugs are walking out, is it like the mice on Honey I shrunk the Audience?

Warning: Below is a "detailed" description of It's tough to be a bug for anyone who does not like bugs:

If you do not like bugs, don't go to this!!!!

Towards the end the "bee" stings you in the back. It is just like you being poked in the back with a blunt object.

Also cockroaches run under your butt. While you are sitting down they have little holes that come up and down simulating the cockroaches.

Also huge spiders come out from above you from the ceiling. I am petrified of spiders and fortunately I sat way in the back with the overhang so the spiders were not near me.

Overall Disney did a very good job at simulating the effects but if you are afraid of bugs, it is a nightmare. Even when we went the second time, I sat away from the back of the seat and knew the cockroaches were coming but it is a very weird experience.

We did this our trip in May and needless to say we barely made it throught the first five minutes of the show. My daughter, age 6, was petrified; and she is not afraid of bugs, spiders or anything. I think that maybe the combination of it being dark, and the bugs/spiders were so large if freaked her out. Maybe we will try this on another trip when she is a little bit older.

I loved this for sure!!! also my 7 year old daughter has watched a bugs life so often she wore the tape out - she got a big kick out of this show - the only negative she said was "hopper" (i think that is is name) is a meany... "he scared me".... which is appropriate because frankly he is supposed to be scary - she did want to do the ride again - depends on your kids age and tempermant - now alien encounter was a different question all together - that scared my daughter to the hilt... I had to talk her through it telling her it was all pretend and was computer effects etc etc

I heard small children screaming bloody murder. I thought the scariest part was the packed lobby before the show. All I could think of was "one little fire and we are all dead in the stampede".

The stinger can really HURT! Surprising.

Great attraction, but do take care with the little ones. I know you read here about young kids who do just fine on it, and of course every kid is different. But I have never been in this attraction when there weren't several kids around having full scale, terrified nervous breakdowns (the first time I ever went it was my kid.)

We tried this for the first time last week-our kids did not make it through the very first effect. I don't know what upset our youngest DD the most--the puffs of air in her face or all the people screaming:eek: If you do take children and are not sure about how they will react-sit near the exit. That way you can get out quick(although it was not quick enough for my kids:D )

DW and I always marvel at the state of the audience after this show (which is one of our favorites at WDW) is over. Most of the audience, including many little ones, are giggling with joy, but there are always a dozen or so kids that are crying in absolute terror. Those spiders come zooming down through the mist and really must look a little scary to young eyes, and the "touch" effects, while mild, can still be a bit of an unexpected feeling. Still, its a funny, fabulous show and if you think you can handle it you will be hugely rewarded.

Hopefully, they won't have Donald Duck "poking" anybody with a conductors stick at the new Mickey's Philharmagic!!!

Last year I went on this for the very first time...it was the first attraction on my trip after a 15-year hiatus from WDW. What a way to come back to the Mouse!

I loved it so much that it immediately became one of the highlights of my trip...and I thought that it surpassed the other two "4D" attractions, Muppets and Honey.

I hate bugs...but these are Disney bugs! Which makes the whole experience a pure joy for me. I was giggling uncontrollably throughout the entire attraction, and couldn't get the smile off of my face for hours afterward.

It's Tough to Be a Bug is one of my favorite WDW attractions.

I'm no big fan of bugs, but I would rate this attraction as my AK favorite. Perhaps smaller children should see the Bug's Life video before going to WDW. It would help reduce the scariness of bugs.

I have an exaggerated fear of anything with more than 4 legs. I have to say, There is one part surprisingly enough that Disney supplied and one part that the audience supplies, that gets to kids. There is a part that is in complete darkness for about 15 seconds

Believe it or not when Hopper comes out many children are dreadfully afraid. The other part is the response from the audience to all the wonderful surprises that Disney provides to make this attraction truly interactive. People scream, BUT they are laughing, they are enjoying it, but it startles the children.

HokieDad - don't fear a fire. There are emergency doors that will open into the theatre and allow everyone safe passage through, but really what in there can burn??

mommystieg - had the best idea.
Get near the doors and be one of the first to select the row you occupy. You will be nearest the exit doors. Theatre ushers are there with flashlights to assist.

And parents remember, if you scream, it upsets your kids too. They don't want mommy or daddy to be upset. .
