You guys are talking about which rooms to request so I am looking for some advice. It will be me,dad and kids, age 8 and 10. Any suggestions on a building I should request? When would I request it? Any other suggestions would be great... Thanks

How neat that there is a campfire, but bummer that there aren't any characters :( I find it odd that it's so early, though. It'll still be bright and sunny out then :sunny:

Magnolia Terrace....it is near the main pool area, a bus stop, and fairly close to the food court!

:flower: My husband and I are booked at the Riverside for July 6th. He has not been to Disney since 1980, is he in for a treat. I have been several times but have never stayed on the property. So far I have changed our choice of hotel several times. I want this trip to be romantic and fun. We are an older couple but have only been married for a year. Is this the right place to stay. We would like a moderate hotel. ::MinnieMo

I hope it's the right place for us too - we are booked in second half of June (me and my wife - no kids) and from all the reviews on this and other sites, I hope and think we have made the right decision. Of all the moderate resorts, it sounds like the most peaceful, with nice riverwalks and lovely grounds. I have seen many people say that the grounds out do some of the deluxe resorts!

As far as things being more spread out, that does not worry me at all - let's face it, there's a lot of walking to be had at WDW anyway.

We normally arrive in Orlando from the UK around 2pm at the airport, and about 4pm at the resort (this is the first time we have stayed on Disney, it's normally Lake Buena Vista). We often spend a couple of hours in DTD, walking there from the hotel on Hotel Plaza Blvd. This time, we'll be able to take a boat!

Looking forward to it - I'm over 40 now but feel like a teenager just thinking about it!

POR is very nice, I think you will enjoy your stay there. When we stayed there two years ago it was a bit of a walk to the lobby of the resort but we were not very far from the road and had a minute walk to the bus stop.

I think it's a great choice. I was there in May, so I'm sure it was less crowded than it might be in the middle of summer, but I thought it was very peaceful, and the boat ride to DTD was wonderful! I stayed in Oak Manor, which was IMO close to the lobby (which was also close to the main bus stop, which I think is the best one to use if you're close to it). I didn't really explore the outer reaches of the resort (ie, the buildings farthest away from the lobby area), so I can't really speak to those, but if you can get a room in one of the closer buildings you'll be fine. And I can't imagine even the farthest buildings being more of a walk than some of CSR was...talk about far! That place was huge and exhausting after a day in the parks. I found POR to be great! I would definitely stay there again over CSR. (Those are the two WDW resorts I've stayed at.) Have fun! :cool1:

I am relieved that I finally made the right choice to stay at the POR. We will be there the week of fourth of July. Counting the days......
:cheer2:

Thanks for your response. My husband and I are both 50 and are traveling without the kids. Since he has not been to Disney since 1980 (I was there in 2001) this will be a great treat. For his 50th birthday I gave him the Richard Petty driving experience ( he will look great in that suit and helmet)

Mark, you and your wife will have a ball. Don't forget to get your mickey ears.

I want to call in my room requests tonight. We'd like to try the bayou section and I was looking at the map and I'd like to request building 27, but it's listed as smoking, but I've seen others post it as non-smoking? Does anyone know for sure which it is? :confused3 Or if smoking is allowed in all of these buildings - 17, 18, 27, 28?

My family and I stayed at the POR this past November. It is beautiful!! We had our two children along, but it definitely is a great resort for romance!

Make sure you book in advance if you want to take a carriage ride. We tried to make reservations once we got there, but it was already booked. They only had one opening and we had dinner plans for that night.

Have a great time! No doubt you will love it.

Do you call CRO to book the carriage ride or POR directly? How much is it & can you fit 5 in the carriage? (2 adults & 3 kids) Thanks

You can check out my Day 1 trip report on the respective board here titled "A young couple re-connects at WDW" which comments on POR...the trip report is rather long and detailed but it was just posted and details my trip from the week before last.

POR is a gorgeous resort. It is dead quiet and very peacful given the way the main lobby and pool area are on seperate pieces of land than the guest room buildings. This, alone, makes it a romantic getaway IMHO. I really think you will find that you are making the perfect choice. Have fun and don't forget to leave some feedback on the trip report forum if you find any usefull info on POR within my thread. Thanks.

I leave for POR in 3 weeks. Have all of the renovations been completed? If not, can someone let me know which ones have not been done yet? Should I request a building like 14 or just leave it up to fate. We need to be in the AB section because we have 3 kids (7,5,2).

Thanks for your help
