PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER

there is now a separate French Quarter FAQ. This one will be only for Riverside.

Does anyone have a link to the French Quarter FAQ? I can't find it, tried to do a search but that didn't look. I did look under the resorts FAQ sticky but couldn't find anything there either.

Thanks, I'd really appreciate help, as you can see I'm new here!

EDIT! Of course just a couple of minutes after I posted this I found the thread for POFQ! Oh dopey me! He IS my fav Disney character for a reason :) So Nevermind and thanks!

Fridge is a small one..........might hold one gallon but not sure two. They will supply coffee --- the coffeepot is only a 4 cup one.

"#1 We have booked a "waterview" room, I read on other posts in order to actually see the "River" you need to be on the 2nd floor, is this the case?"

Personally I wouldn't waste paying the extra money for a "Waterview" room. We always request a "Courtyard" view (I don't think there is a bad courtyard view, the whole place is just beautiful). They don't cost any more, and once we even ended up with a riverview out of both of our windows (2nd floor corner room) even though we requested nothing more than a courtyard view. ~:)~

"Can anyone summarize the smoking bldgs in POR."

In the AB section Buildings 18 and 38 are considered Smoking Optional. And on the Mansion side it's Oak Manor. ~:)~

I just wanted to add that I am a Polynesian addict but my DD and I stayed here in January because Poly was booked. I LOVED POR! We had a corner room with the two windows and it was just so nice. Loved the big bathroom area and the coat rack. The only other moderate we tried was CS and I was very disappointed. We are thinking of going in June and we will be staying at POR.
Just wondering if you stayed in AB or the mansions? Thanks:)

Can anyone advise when all the renovations will be completed. We are going to POR but not until December this year and are hoping that all the work is completed by then.
Also, Can anyone advise about the boat to DTD. Is it true that it is more frequent from the French Quarter than Riverside? Any idea on the times?
Would you say the AB rooms are too rustic or are they good? Ive seen the pictures for these and also the mansion rooms which although these are beautiful, I did think only having two storeys would mean less people traffic passing the room at night so have plumped for AB.

We were told that since the refurbishment only building 18 in AB is smoking building. Oak Manor remains smoking in the Mansions.

widget, the room refurbishments are just about complete, so you'll be fine by next December :flower1:

We first stayed in the mansion section, and then this past November got an AB room. I begged them to move me, as from the pictures I really didn't like the looks of them. BUT, we liked them a LOT MORE!!! I was pleasantly surprised!! I really like that whole section much better.

Just returned from POR. Bldg. 14 was being renovated. Our room in Bldg 18 was renovated. I had req'd Bldg 14. Only room avail. was smoking opt. in 18 or a mansion room. We were told we could move if we didn't like our room. The kids wouldn't move even though I could detect a faint smell of smoke. I stayed as it was our only choice and we wanted the trundle. No charge for fridge or trundle. There was a curtain to divide sink area which we used to change. Having 2 sinks was great. We liked the rustic feel because it makes it different from ordinary hotel rooms. We loved the location. Bldg 27 is across from 18 and I would also choose that location. I'm glad we weren't upstairs because our legs hurt so much we wouldn't have wanted to climb the stairs each time. We didn't hear anyone overhead. It was very quiet. CM said POR had 100% occupancy when we were there. The only time you were aware of amount of people was at main pool and food court at busy times. We were happy with everything we ate at the Food Court. We ate at Boatwright's for breakfast once and loved it. :)

TTRider- ?

Does the sink area still have a nightlight and if so does the curtain completly close to block out the light? When we were there in Nov. the curtain didn't completely shut and the nightlight was pretty bright. I couldn't figure out how to shut it off and at home I sleep in a very dark room.

the nightlight is connected to the hairdryer. With the curtain closed it wasn't a problem, and I think we were able to unplug it.

edited to add, the light is on the hairdryer - you can see it in this photo frmo the French Quarter, I am pretty sure Riverside is the same. You can unplug the hairdryer and that switches the light off

Yes, our curtain closed all the way. We didn't close it while we were sleeping. I like to sleep in the dark too, but I was so tired it wasn't a problem. The nightlight is on the hairdryer like the FQ picture. It helped me know where I was and didn't seem too bright. You'll love POR.

I think ole Big Merle there isn't realizing how exhausted she will be on this trip of hers. I doubt that nightlight will hurt her a bit!

We were there last September and our rooms were not renovated yet..we might have to stay there again in May and I was wondering what the renovated rooms look liked. I have seen a pic of the bedding, but for some strange reason NO ONE on the DIS boards has any other pics of the rooms. :confused3 So here are the things I am looking for: Is the carpet new? Did they replace the wall paper in the bathrooms?(ours was peeling off the walls. :sad2: ) Did they repaint? Okay, thats pretty much it. I'd really LOVE to try the mansions since we've already stayed in AB, but we have 4 kids. We aren't a disney friendly family anymore. :sad2: OH YEAH, also did the rooms get a privacy curtain? I LOVE that about the mansions with a 4 month old it would be perfect to keep his crib in at night so he'd go to sleep before the rest of us. Oh well. We don't even need the trundle since our boys are so young. We need to cribs so instead DS(barely going to be 2) will just sleep with us.

I only took photos of the beds unfortunately, but from what I can remember, there were new curtains, new shower curtain, the light fittings had changed. Not sure about the wallpaper but it all looked new. I would guess they repainted, everything looked brand new and fresh.
The walls are still cream, but there are curtains hanging behind the beds now, the picture on the wall is different in our room than in the all ears picture

the tv cabinet, chest and hat stand all look the same
the sink area has a new marble counter and the floor is tiled, in the ALLEars photo is looks like carpet

And the beds are extremely high off the ground, but I don't know if that's new.

You can see the tiled area in the bathroom and the carpet, I have just blown up the original picture i photoshop and compared the carpet with the photo on AllEars and they are very similiar but I do think they are slightly different

Yeah that's what you think little sister. Especially if you have your way and run us all ragged. I was exhausted last time we were there, DM and I left from MD at 5:30 in the morning earlier that day and I only had about 3 hours of sleep the night before, and that nightlight bothered me plenty.

DH is driving me crazy. He doesn't like the "rustic" look from the pics - says it's not what he expected in a resort (esp. Dis) at all :( I think we'll love it, esp. from all your replies, but I am concerned now. I am PRAYING we get a renovated room when we're there in July. Though I am not sure that will help. *sigh* We really don't have a choice, either. We have three kids (one is 2). He said he'd rather stay in the mansions or another moderate resort (he's judging from the pics) and have the kids alternate sleeping on the floor. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Even if we brought a big blanket to put down, the idea grosses me out. Why oh why does he have to be so difficult?!?!?!

BevS97: THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU...FOR THE PICS! I've been waiting to see the pictures of the renovated rooms! :flower:

We leave in 3 weeks!!
