Another episode of Celebrity Fashions 101!
Puff 'n Stuff: We really wanted to love Charlize Theron's fashion-forward two-piece Christian Dior couture, but we simply can't get past the ensemble's puffy super-sized sleeves. Any second now, we expect the "Monster" star to break into a chorus of "Copacabana." To paraphrase Barry Manilow, music and passion are always in fashion, but not when your arms are covered in 10 pounds of fabric. If you can ignore the sleeves (try really hard), the rest of the outfit is fab, from her nipped waist jacket to her pencil skirt to her delicate bow-accented shoes. And while Charlize might have benefited from a less severe hairstyle, we figure the coiffure is all part of her Oscar campaign to be seen as a "serious actress." Can "smart girl" glasses be far behind?
Black and Blue: No wonder everyone wants to know when Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are going to reproduce -- just look at 'em! The genetically gifted duo makes the scene at the "Along Came Polly" premiere, looking more A-list than the movie probably deserves. Jen, who has nixed her normally stick-straight tresses for a flattering wavy 'do with side-swept bangs, is classic and understated in a high-waisted, '50s-style A-line skirt with a tulle underlay and matching Jil Sander shirt. The "Friends" star skips the accessories, but sets off her ensemble with gorgeous ankle-strap, pointy-toed Azzedine Alaia shoes. Brad, who recently turned 40, is looking mighty fine in his midnight blue suit and rakish scarf, and we're thrilled that he's buzzed the limp shoulder-length locks he sported for "Troy" into a white-hot close-cropped style.
Off the Depp End: Johnny Depp sure is a lucky guy. He's found the one woman in the world who shares his -- how do we put this gently? -- quirky sense of style. At the Critics' Choice Awards, the Sexiest Man Alive (yes, he retains the title even with those icky grown-out roots) dons his trademark dark-hued gangster get-up, this time updating his usually baggy double-breasted pin-stripe look with more fitted garb. But what to make of girlfriend Vanessa Paradis' flower child attire? Did the French actress get mugged and made over by Stevie Nicks? Does she have a day job working as a beer wench at a Renaissance fair? Our advice for the comely couple: save the costumes for Halloween.
'O' My: A newly svelte Oprah Winfrey commands attention on the red carpet at the People's Choice Awards with a rock-and-rollish ensemble from Gianfranco Ferre, one of her fave designers. The media mogul, who's soon to turn 50, revealed on Entertainment Tonight that the cropped leather jacket and long black skirt were just hanging in her closet, but she hadn't been able to fit into them before now. As for the Big O's Dolce & Gabbana stiletto boots, those were a gift from Madonna, who seems to be a positive fashion influence on her normally cautious celebrity friend.
Insert Penguin Joke Here: We know Matt LeBlanc has a lot going on, what with "Friends" ending, his spinoff beginning, and the imminent arrival of the pitter-patter of little feet (wife Melissa McKnight is due in March). But come on, he banks a million big ones an episode. Even in LA, that should be more than enough to afford a suit that fits, shoes that match, and a hairstyle that doesn't look like a pen exploded on your forehead. Also doing LeBlanc no favors are his subtle stubble, which prematurely ages him, and his tapered pants, which, in this dumpy suit, seem to accentuate a waistline suffering from one too many trips to the Central Perk pastry counter.
Ink Strain: It's easy to see why Christina Applegate is fast earning a reputation as one of Hollywood's best-dressed celebs. At the Critics' Choice Awards, the actress once required to wear a uniform of mini-skirts and tube tops as Kelly Bundy on "Married with Children" is all class and elegance in her plunging black Narciso Rodriguez dress, strappy sandals, and blonde bob. And while we love the fact that Christina matches the bright red color of her manicure and pedicure to her lipstick, we're less than enamored of the fading ink stains on her ankles, which ruin her otherwise flawless look. Do the couture a favor: look into laser treatments.
