It's Official - No more DVC discount at the Disney Store

The one thing I did notice was that they called it the Magic Kingdom discount. I haven't asked why or told them that it's a DVC discount in case they refuse to hounour it!

I think that's because they never had a DVC 10% button programmed into the register, so just continued to use the old MKC discount which was also 10%.

I'm glad we will still get the discount in the UK, but I'm sorry for you guys who won't get it any more

By taking away this perk, the Children's Place has only removed the gripe I had about the perk being worthless since they stopped carrying anything remotely useful years ago. I guess I'll have to complain about the 'free buses' or maybe that big, sinkhole slide at OKW I'll never use but my tax,er, maintenance dues underwrites.

I may have to run out to the local DS to see if I can still use my discount. Both DD and DS got gift cards for Christmas and still have balances on both. It's sad that even kids can't find enough to buy in one shot!

The CM's at our local store have been okay. When I first received my card I had to ask for the discount and when I got home and looked at the receipt the CM must have "forgotten" to take it off. That happened twice. I guess after the kids are finished with their gift cards we'll look but I doubt we'll be eager to buy anything. Hummm...can the gift cards be used at WDW?? We'll be going in May and I'd rather use them down there if possible.

As most of you know, I am a DS CM! (I have a full time job and only work there part time) As of Monday (the last time I worked) we had not been told this yet! All the CM's in our store knew what the DVC discount was as there were several of us at the store that own DVC. There has not been a key on the register for DVC for quite some time. It was Promo 10 long before the sale to the childern's place on November 21st and although many of the Promo codes changed after the sale, the DVC discount remained Promo 10. It will be interesting the next time I go to work to see if we have heard anything!

I used it last week! That was the first time in a long time though! We don't find anything in the DS anyway. It is all clothing and cheap toys! The only thing to purchase at the DS are Disney Dollars and who knows if they will keep stocking them. Once the Disney Dollars are gone I will have no reason to shop at the DS. We will just wait until we go to WDW and purchase our Disney stuff there!

But with the US dollar so low against the UK pound at the moment, you can get your 10% off and still pay more!

No. Gift Cards cannot be redeemed as Walt Disney World locations.

we stopped shopping there a long time ago. . .I have found no adult merch. . .dvd's can get a Wal-mart opening release week for 14.97. . .which beat the 19.99, then 10% off. . .I guess one more reason to go back to WDW!!! Just for shopping!!

Well, if TDS/CP haven't heard, there's nothing to stop them from giving that promo 10 to DVCers who actually find something to purchase! Lol!

It will be a little pixie dust if you get the discount but just don't expect it!

I had gone a few weeks ago and they would not honor my DVC card because the items that I was purchasing were already on "sale". The CM was quite rude about it when I asked when this happened because I had used it not too long ago on sale items and she just said that that was their policy. Their computers could not put a discount on top of a discount. Needless to say, I walked out without purchasing the items because of her attitude.

I once thought people who got excited about shopping vacation were nuts. Now I know they are. I don't think there's a shop or cart selling something I don't really need in WDW that I've not visited.

Probably not DVC's job. "The Disney Store" is now owned by "The Children's Place." This change in ownership is the reason for the discount being eliminated. The ownership change occurred several months ago, and many members reported that their local stores quit granting the discount immediately thereafter.

Of course it's DVC's job to tell Hoops Retail that the discount has stopped, if they don't inform the stores, who will?
BTW, I contacted 8 stores today and everyone I spoke to is still giving the DVC discount.

Everyone has always thought I was nuts, shopping as much as I do there, but it is really a fun thing to do. It's my money and I've worked hard to earn it, so if anyone thinks we're crazy, too bad!

I agree. In fact, I've often gotten an attitude from CM at my local TDS that mirrors your comments above. Every time I tried to use the discount I received blowback from the CMs.

The last time I bought anything was just days before the change in ownership became official. The CM that rang up my order actually knew about the discount (which was a first...I usually had to fight for it). But even as she totaled the purchase she said, in a snide manner, "guess that's the last time you'll be able to use THAT discount."



Yup. And it was also the last time I've purchased anything from TDS.

You should have asked to speak to a Manager. You were treated very rudely.
